This is getting really difficult. Every one seems to be getting a letter for confirmation for July but me. I had sent a reply with the questionnaire in June. My friend has been shortlisted(applied around the same time, has a very similar Cv) for the exam but i have not received anything yet. I realise i am complaining which is not very professional, but nor has cae been. I dont live in Delhi and a weeks notice is not too much to ask for a professional exam. I have written multiple emails. Tried to call them numerous times. Everything goes unanswered. If anyone has any suggestion as to what i should do it would be very helpful.

PS. Apology for ranting.

I been in situation like you numerous times dude,, n frankly i got no clue about it. anyways good luck

Hi
I know this does not fits in this thread but just wanted to tell that i appeared for the indigo attempt in december 2011 and was able to clear the written exam. But unfortunately couldn't clear the interview stage.Since then i've been sitting at home because i cannot re-apply in indigo ever again.
Now i am planning to go for A320 type rating.Does any one have any idea whether Indigo would give me a chance as a type rated on A320 or does the policy that i can never apply in indigo once i fail the interview still stands?

Just Make sure that you have stated 25 Hrs of Multi-engine in bold (10 sim + 15Actual)
because they are only interested in Validity and ME hrs thats it.

23rd Jul 2011, 12:13
oscalima, indigo will consider you if you get the rating by your own.
Its completely different process, however you have to go through your cass again which i think its really tough and should not be considered in part of the process if one is rated.

A lot of posts here keep asking for the questions asked for the written exam

I am quite interested in the questions asked during the interview as the interview is pretty much where you make or break it ( you can always give the written again )

So those of you who made it to the interview stage could start posting the questions asked for the interview ?

We can also start making a Question Bank of the interview questions ?

Also any suggestions / tips for interview ?

HI
I did went to the indigo office a couple of times but was never allowed to enter their premises .I told the guard at the gate about my situation but he was adamant to send me inside.I even tried to talk to Capt.Patrick but was always turned down .They just put your call on hold and the call disconnects after some time.I make it a point to call them daily but still couldn't get through to Capt.Patrick or even some one in the HR.
Seriously I have no clue why i was rejected in the interview .According to me my interview was really good.I asked Parul about the reason but she told me that its Indigo's decision and she doesn't knows the reason for not selecting me.

Please stop whining about question banks , there are enough questions in the thread to give an idea of the kind of questions that will be expected , it seems there is a feeling around that question banks are a sure shot and short cut method to crack the Indigo written := especially the most "wanted" QB2 , if that's the case kindly come out of these delusions and start studying . Exam questions change all the time and only 5-10 (max)
will be repeated .

Hey can anyone help me with the answers to the following...
1. (this is from indigo question bank 1)
Any acceleration in climb, with a constant power setting:
A) decreases the rate of climb and the angle of climb
B) improves the rate of climb if the airspeed is below VY
C) improves the climb gradient if the airspeed is below VX
D) decreases rate of climb and increase angle of climb

2. An aircraft heading 325° (M) has an ADF reading of 330° Relative. The heading to steer to intercept the 280° track inbound to the NDB at 50° is:
A) 340(M)
B) 330(M)
C) 310(M)
D) 320(M)

3. At 0900 hrs relative brg of NDB is 045 and at 0910 hrs relative brg is 090. if Ground speed is 150 knots, what is the distance of aircraft from beacon????

4. An aircraft pinpoints itself at 300 nm from destination at 0800 hrs. Gnd Speed is 180 kts. it is required to delay its ETA by 15 mins. After how much time and what distance should the speed be reduced to 150 kts.

Help would be appreciated, also if someone can explain how to solve.
thanks

dude lets not get down,,lets see till evening. The guys who got it for 28th,, received hall ticket yesterday evening itself. So assuming we are on 29th..we ill get.. should get it by today evening. Even though all this situation is highly fishy and weird and unprofessional. :ugh: anyways good luck

vivekh
26th Jul 2011, 08:42
@flyhigh27

1) To accelerate in a climb, without increasing the power setting, the only way will be to lower the nose. This will lead to a decrease in ROC and also angle of climb. Hence answer A.

2) A/c is HDG 325. NDB is on relative bearing 330. Hence the QDM to NDB is 295 i.e. radial 115 from NDB. To track inbound on 280 means intercept radial 100 inbound to NDB. For this we have to turn right. To intercept at angle 50 would mean heading 280+50 = 330.

3) This is a sum of 'doubling the angle at the bow'. Basically the angle to the NDB is increased fromo 45 to 90 degrees. This forms a 45-45-90 isoceles triangle, so the distance travelled to double the angle (150 x (10/60) = 25 Nm) is the same as the distance from beacon when it is abeam. So the answer is 25Nm. Difficult to explain here without a diagram, but I hope you get the idea.

4) I find the easiest way to do this is with algebraic equation because it is fool proof and I am comfortable with them, but there are simpler ways. In this case you would assume x to the distance you would reduce speed and form algebraic equations to solve for x. Is the answer 75nm/25 mins from start?

Hope this has helped. If I am wrong, someone please correct me, for my own benefit atleast. :ok:

26th Jul 2011, 14:06
thanks...

Hello people can u please help me with these:
1. Given True track= 352 degrees, variation=11 W, deviation=-5 and drift- 10 S.
what would be the compass heading????

2. when acknowledging mode and code, pilot needs to:
a.acknowledge mode only. b. mode and code both

3.the procedure for an aircraft that suffers comm failure during an IFR flt in VFR condition is:
a. proceed direct to its destination
b. maintain last cleared level and speed for 20 mins and then continue in accordance wid flt plan
c. continue to fly in vmc, land at nearest aerodrome, report its arrival.

4. At medium latitude, coriolis force experienced is:
a.7.5 degrees to the rgt
b. 15 degrees to left
c. 7.5 degrees to lft
d. 10.5 degrees to rgt

thanks.

vivekh
26th Jul 2011, 16:13
@flyhigh27

1) Simple CDMVT sum. Compass hdg in nil wind comes to 008deg. So for compensating 10deg Starboard drift, we need a compass heading of 358deg.

2) Mode & Code both

3) Radio failure of IFR flight in VFR conditions - land at nearest aerodrome and report nearest ATC unit.

4) If in the question you are talking about the Northern hemisphere, then the answer is 10.5deg right. Med lats ~ 45deg. So Coriolis force = 15sin45 ~ 10.5deg. Since it is northern hemisphere, it will be to the right.

Q.on a particular take off you can accept upto 10 kts tailwind.the runway qdm is 047 the variation is 17E and the ATIS gives the wind direction as 210.what is the max wind strength you can accept?
a 18kts
b 11kts
c 8kts
d 4kts
the answer given is b 11kts...but i cant figur how to work this question out

ilsdme28
27th Jul 2011, 02:48
difference between r/w qdm and w/d is almost 160
work backwards (t/w is given by cos component)
i)18 * cos 160 =17 (max=10) hence no
ii)11*cos 160 = 10 (acceptable)

flyhigh27
27th Jul 2011, 05:25
for question 1 above (CDMVT)
Given True track= 352 degrees, variation=11 W, deviation=-5 and drift- 10 S.
what would be the compass heading????

TRUE TRACK is given
drift is diff b/w hdg and track.
therefore, hdg(T)= 342
then applying variation and deviation,
compass hdg= 348

I am not sure, I did it this way, jst wanna confirm is it right or not.

flyhigh27
27th Jul 2011, 05:36
What is the semi circular rule to choose altitude to fly!!!

vivekh
27th Jul 2011, 06:02
You can either apply drift to the true track to get true heading and then find the compass heading OR you can find the 'compass track' :} and then apply drift correction to get the compass heading. Both ways work fine.

I think the answer is still 358. The value of variation is 11W, so from True Hdg of 342, we get magnetic hdg 353deg, then the deviation is -5 = 5W, which means compass heading is 358deg.

Negative value of variation/dev is west, positive value is east.

lesternoronha
27th Jul 2011, 06:05
the method u have applied will give u the same result as vivekh
its like saying A+B-C or A-C+B
i believe there is and error in the calculation made:}
342(T) is what u have gotten applying drift rightly so,
then u apply variation of 11W u get 353(M)
then u apply deviation of -5 (which is also west) u get 358(C)
cheers.....:O again correct me if im wrong...

vivekh
27th Jul 2011, 06:15
Semi circular rule:

Magnetic track 000 to 179 - Odd FLs 190,210,230, etc
Magnetic track 180 to 359 - Even FLs 200,220,240,etc.

Thing to remember is that it applies to magnetic track and not magnetic heading. So for a heading of 005deg with 15 degrees port drift, you will fly an even flight level, since your mag track is 350deg.

From transition level to FL290 - every 1000ft is a FL. Eg. 260,270,280...
From FL290 upwards - every 2000ft is a FL. Eg. FL 310, FL330, FL350...

For RVSM airspaces:

From transition level to FL290 - every 1000ft is a FL. Eg. 260,270,280...

bro the question mentioned above is the only question they ask on RPL, so just remember that. and RPL is repetitive flight plan.

and i think you can always ask questions and people should answer if they know them. its always good to discuss stuff and this is the best place to do it.

just do not bother about people who discourage it, like that guy above hehe..
anyone having problems may kindly quit and start a new thread, hehe.

and no need to say sorry to anyone. chill.

remember:

A repetitive flight plan (RPL) is a flight plan related to a series of frequently recurring, regularly operated individual flights with identical basic features, submitted by an operator for retention and repetitive use by ATS units. (ICAO Annex 2: Rules of the Air)
RPLs are routinely used by most airlines for regular scheduled flights which operate over the same route at least once a week.
Further Reading

ICAO Annex 11 Chapter 3.

the question above is a very specific question on rpl.

There is a published table to determine the flight level if we know the qnh and transition altitude...
According to table here with qnh being 985 and TA being 3000' the transition level comes out to be 4000...
Calculating further we wil get the difference between 1013 and 985 is 840'

So the transition layer is difference between 4000-(3000+840)=160

I got the table from wikipedia ..searching for transition altitude....

Hey guys .could u please help me in solving the below questions. These r from oxford radio aids- vor chapter

Q1) Assuming the maximum likely error in vor to be 5.5 degree, what is the maximum distance apart that beacons can be situated on the centreline of the u.k airwayin order that an aircraft can guarantee remaining within the airway boundary?
a) 54.5 Nm
b) 109 NM
c) 66 Nm
d) 132 Nm

Q2) An aircraft is homing towards VOR which marks the centreline of an airway. The beacon is 100 Nm distant. If the pilot had the airway QDM set on the OBS what deflection of the deviation indicator would be given if the aircraft was on the boundary of the airway? Assume that 1 dot equals 2 degrees.
a) 3 dots
b) 2 dots
c) 2.5 dots
d) 1.5 dots

Q3) Assuming an accuracy of + / - 5.5 degree, the maximum spacing of 2 vor’s defining the centreline of an airway, that would ensure no aircraft could be outside the airway is;
a) 54 Nm
b) 51 nm
c) 109 nm
d) 132 nm

Q4)what is the theoretical maximum range that an aircraft at FL 420 will obtain from a vor beacon situated at 400 feet above msl?
a) 225 nm
b) 256 nm
c) 281 nm
d) 257 nm

Aviator09

@ wings of fire

1. The airways in U.K. Airways are maximum 5 nm either side.
Using, 1 in 60 formula, Angle= S/R * 60
i.e. 5.5= 5/R *60 ,R = 54.54 NM
The Maximum distance implies the diameter, Hence 2 X 54.54= 109 NM (B)

2. The same formula, R= 100 nm, S= 5nm

Angle= 5/100 *60 = 3 degree
Since, 1 dot is equal to 2 degree. It would be 1.5 dots. (D)

3. Entirely the same as 1. Just that there's a change of language. (C)

4. Range= 1.25 sq.root height of Aircraft + 1.25 sq.root height of VOR
= 1.25 ( sq.root 42000 + sq.root 400)
=281 NM (C)

Okay guys for all of you getting ready for your CASS . I appeared in June and have cleared . . I am posting details which i think will help you :

CASS Assessment is 4 exercises in total , the order may vary :
1.Sim
2.English test
3.HR interview
4.Personality Questionnaire

For sim go through the booklet you will receive thoroughly so you are familiar . The guys over there are very helpful and give you ample time to practice so its not a worry .

English test is not a worry either , i mean if you are scared about clearing a simple English test then well god save the Indian skies when you fly .

Personal interview - Its more of a healthy discussions where general questions are asked about you . I dont mind posting the questions but it wont help you as you will prepare the answers and mug up the answers which is not the right way , the guys over there are skilled enough to see who is honest and who is not .

The KEY to SUCCESS is CONFIDENCE ( NOT OVER NOT UNDER )

Get done with this stage and then worry for GD and other things .
Hope it helps
Plz do not PM me regarding above :=
All the best :ok:

Q 18) A Vor is providing satisfactory signals in accordance with ICAO specifications, to an aircraft within DOC at 42500 feet, groundspeed 480 knots. The approximate time that the a/c is in cone of confusion is :

a) 1.75 mins
b)1.50 mins
c)2 mins
d)3 mins

Aviator09
2nd Aug 2011, 17:11
@ wings of fire
The 4th question has some error, everytime I d these questions, the answer always difffer. So, can't really say if you should mug up the answer or just follow the formula.

Aviator09
2nd Aug 2011, 17:20
Q18 Theory mentioned in VOR states about the cone of confusion angle to be 50 Degree. Hence, Tan 50 = P/B
Here, P = Radius of Cone = ?
B= 42500 Ft =6.99 Km
Substitute the values in the equation, Tan50 = P/6.99= 8.33Nm

To calculate the time aircraft remains in the cone of confusion, Diameter=2R

Time= Distance/GS. i.e. 2 X 8.33 / 480 =0.034 Hour.
COnvert it into minutes, The answer is approx 2 Minutes. (C)

Thanks bud. That was very prompt of you. am sure u will go a long way ahead.
With regards to Q8 in Vor chapter(where the answer is 225 Nm)- I have made a few observations.

Chech out Q4, 13 and 22, they all r of similar types to Q8. In those 3 questions the formula applies of 1.25*(root of Ht + root of Hr) - but the altitudes are FL 360, FL 250 , Fl 180 respectively - all of which are less than 36090 feet. Whereas in Q8 aircraft is at Fl 420 i.e at tropopause- where temp. is constant. So can there be any reason or theory u can deduce.

I have read radio waves get affected by temperature inversion.
Eg: in temperature inversion VHF waves get reflected back to earth and travel in form of multi hop propagation and not line of sight

The below are some questions from Oxford instrumentation book - objective revision 4 and 5.

Q1) An a/c is descending at a contant mach number. If the a/c is descending through an inversion layer, the RAS will:

a)remain constant
b)increase
c)decrease
d)decrease then decrease more slowly

Answer is b) increase.
however during descent in inversion, temp decreases at lower altitude. so, LSS decreases. since M.no = (TAS / LSS), therefore TAS should also decrease, in order for M.No to remain constant.
Yes, density increases at lower altitudes.
Now, RAS=(1/2)*density*(TAS squared).
Therefore effect of decreasing TAS is more, then increase of density.
so answer should be c) decrease.
Can anyone explain?

Q2)A perfectly frictionless DI, is corrected to give zero drift on the ground at 30 degree north. The DI is set to read 100 degree in an a/c stationary on the ground in latitude 45 degree north. The reading after 45 mins will be:

a) 92.33 degree
b)102.50 degree
c)97.78 degree
d) 103.75 degree

Q3) with constant drift during flight, the a/c heading will:

a)increase by more than 10 degree
b)decrease by less than 10 degree
c)increase by less than 10 degree
d)remain constant

Answer is b). what;s the logic?

HuNg_sTaRt
3rd Aug 2011, 11:15
TAS = CAS + DE (density error) and Mach no. = TAS/LSS

Mach no. is constant (given). So TAS is constant.

Now, since the a/c is descending through inversion layer the temp will decrease an so will density error and to keep TAS constant(by d fromula)....CAS will increase!!!:ok::ok::ok:

since M.no = TAS / LSS , Therefore LSS changes with decreasing temp. Hence TAS also changes . It can't be constant.

Any one else can explain.

Q2. Find the real drift due to mechanical imperfections @ 30 N which comes to be 7.5 degree/hour increasing.
total drift=Real Drift + Apparent Drift i.e. 0= RD + 15 sin 30
0= 7.5/hr Increasing + 7.5/hr dec

Now, this gyro is taken to 45N, RD will remain same, no matter what,
Hence, Total Drift= 7.5/hr inc + 15 sin45
= 3.10 degree/hr decreasing

gyro stays here for 45 minutes, so 3.10/hr when computed for 45 minutes comes to be,2.32 Degree/ hour decreasing.

Alteration to the hdg. will be 100-2.32=97.67 degree. (c)

Is the answer correct??

as the temp decrease the local speen of sound reduce
you see the inversion the lss decrease as the a/c descend
Now comes the basic maths , as the denominater decrease to keep the full factor constant (mac no.) we have to increase the TAS and in attampt to increase tas ras increase

ahy update for the indigo coming exam , please inform

Q2, 3 do you have the answer and its justification

Now comes the basic maths , as the denominater decrease to keep the full factor constant (mac no.) we have to increase the TAS and in attampt to increase tas ras increase
You may want to reconsider that..if the denominator decreases..the numerator also has to decrease to keep the fraction constant..here let me make it simple (not that its complicated!).. consider..20/10=2
now if you reduce 10 to 5 then you also have to reduce 20 to 10, 10/5=2

:8:p:ok:

Now for the answer..cas does increase according to an online flt computer..but dont ask me how..stumped on this one..can anybody explain why cas increases while descending through an inversion layer with constant mach?

And the most basic question..is there going to be an August exam???

Can anyone explain?

the formula you have put there for RAS is not right, 1/2(rho)v^2 is the formula for the dynamic pressure.

TAS=RAS + Density error.

In general, you can assume that the inversion doesnt make a difference to the CAS.
so, CAS increases in a descent and decreases in a climb with Mach constant.

cheers,
P

wings of fire
4th Aug 2011, 16:48
Buddy 1/2*rho * (v square) is formula of dynamic pressure- but that is also called indicated airspeed.

And since , RAS = IAS corrected for position error.

and position error is negligible. therefore we can safely say, RAS=IAS

Hence, RAS = 1/2* rho * (TAS squared)

and this is how we were taught , when i took classes from surinder sir.

Other students of sir, correct me if I am wrong

By the way, what's your email id

Hi mate,
not sure about the classes, i havent had the chance to attend them. Just going by what i understood from Oxford books.
either way, the general idea is that as density increases CAS increases.

i was doing some reading on the same topic and found this, hope it helps.

@wings of fire and @puneeth

EAS(without compressibility error EAS=CAS) and Mach number are related by:

EAS = M * LSS * sqrt(Ps / Pstd)

Where
Ps = static pressure
Pstd = standard pressure (1013.25 hPa)

This is the same equation I had for true airspeed, except with pressure ratio instead of temperature ratio. Consolidating the constants it becomes:

EAS = M * 20.78 * sqrt(Ps)

The point to note is that Equivalent airspeed is a function of mach number and pressure, temperature is irrelevant.

Yes, you're correct when you say that CAS and RAS can be taken to be the same and hence the same formula too, 1/2 rho V squared. I took the same classes as you did. It has always worked for me, but cant still figure out the reason here.

Q. assuming the maximum likely error in vor to be 5.5*,what is maximum distance apart that beacons can be situated on the centre line of a UK airways in order that an aircraft can guarantee remaining within the airways boundary?
a. 54.5 nm
b. 109nm
c. 66nm
d. 132nm

The way i understand it is:

An airway is 10nm wide and the Vor is on the middle so its 5nm either side of the Vor.

The error is 5.5* so we cn use the Track Error(1 in 60 rule) formula.
TE= Distance off/Distance covered *60
We know the TE=5.5* and Max Dist off can be 5nm so it gives the Dist covered as 54.54( 5/5.5*60)

This means that with an error of 5.5* u can stay within the airways for sure till 54.5nm with one vor. At that point u need the signal from another vor wch cant be more than 54.5nm away with the same error. So total distance comes to 54.5+54.5=109nm.

I had asked the same question earlier in the thread

IndiGo just requires an ME-IR . It need not be current . Once you do your type rating you will get a new IR endorsed with it

Jet Airways does not even require a multi rating ( hence the huge competition for the written exam)

They do however require a Single Engine instrument rating but the rating need not be current :E
