@spoolkick

On their employment page

Section Pilots

Just below the A320 Expat Pilots

You should be able to see a small line that talks about CAE and if you dont meet their experience requirements you should apply through CAE

They have given a link that should take you to the CAE page . Read all the details thoroughly and then apply . Then pray you get called for the next attempt and be thoroughly prepared as well .
Good Luck :ok:

They have 'consciously' been over hiring for sometime now, around 800-900 pilots for a fleet size of 51 A/C's, but they are also receiving A320's at a much faster rate now.The backlog should clear soon.

How are they doing with regards to check pilots, TRE/TRI's?

After Indigo's January intake , thought their next could be in March .

Reading the news articles about KingFisher PILOTS MOVING To Indigo

and the posts above looks like it may take seriously long time for Indigo to conduct their Next recruitment Exam for Jr. Co-Pilots .

And Now No Clue Whatsoever :

When would be the Next Indigo Exam for Jr. Co-Pilots ?

Guys I don't know if this is the right forum for this but I wanted to know from the guys who have finished their Type Ratings. Is there any study material that could be used to prepare before I go for the rating. My training is suppose to start on 26th march so I thought I could utilize this time to prepare myself with some basic info about A320.

So if anyone has any suggestions on what I should be studying before going for my Rating please go ahead and let me know. (Or is there any other formum already discussing this..because i couldn't find it.)

Any help is appreciated and welcomed.

Thanks

Each TRTO will have slightly different material, but systems and most of the technical data will remain the same.

Start here:

@spoolkick: Buddy, this thread contains about 128 pages of all the information that you will ever need for the IndiGo recruitment process. A lot of hardwork has been put in by several members in compiling this thread. Would appreciate it if you could take the effort to go through it before posting a query. Thanks! :ok:

Heard there might be an exam this April. Can anyone confirm that ?

3greens 1inthemirror
2nd Mar 2012, 08:15
Can't say for sure. last week they inducted around 50 KFA pilots and on the 27th of Feb, they held an exam for the A320 rated.

Johny Boy
2nd Mar 2012, 13:40
TNT

They were suppose to call for March assessment or they might give e-mails in a day or two.If going by some info, march assessment will happen in b/w 20-25 march and april in 3rd week.

But KFA's exodus(37 PIC's/ CoPilot with ATPL) have hampered things in very big way for those who are expecting to write CAE exams.Even heard some of GO air guys are trying for Indigo.Most of KFA co-pilots will be upgraded to commanders in 2-3 months time.

LieDetector
5th Mar 2012, 04:32
I would be surprised if they conduct an exam anytime soon.

They have 2 batches waiting for Sim check and then onto ground classes, with another 2-3 batches leaving for TR soon and of course there was the exam conducted for TR candidates.

All this due to a wave of pilots who just left kingfisher and continue to do so.

Anyone on these forums who recently joined or soon to join would like to tell us.

Hello guys...i m new to the forum...i am an aerospace engineering student and will be graduating in 2013 after which i plan to go for flying training. If I want to fly for Indigo ultimately, what would be the best possible route:-

1) Obtain my CPL in USA and then apply for the Type rating qualification program thru CAE.
2) Obtain CPL from CAE Global Academy,Gondia and then the type rating qualification.

Thank you:)

SaabCapt
19th Mar 2012, 06:24

3) obtain a cpl from states, buy a plane, let us fly too

The best wud be thru CAE-Indigo CPl +type rating. This way u'll have a job atleast.
No point investing so much money without having a job in hand lik all f d others!!

Dreamliner23
19th Mar 2012, 07:35
Thank you...I m confused about one other thing...Is the CASS test only before the type rating qualification? I mean do I need to go through such selection process before joining the CAE - Indigo cadet pilot training programme at Gondia?

thearsenal
20th Mar 2012, 08:07
I am not entirely sure about that but i doubt the process would be the same as the normal indigo cpl holders recruitment with the cass and english test, but dont take my word for it, your best bet would be to inquire with cae about each stage in your process before enrolling in it. you dont want to pay 45 lakhs and land up not having a job. Best of Luck.

and my suggestion, in this forum it says that mainly study human performance.. i gave my first attempt in Jan'12.. believe me i got only 5-6 question from human performance.. so study every single thing.. technical, performance, and human performance too..

28th Mar 2012, 06:49
@kkaar: thanks. About the content, I am trying to study just about everything. Doing the questions at the back of the oxford and after every chapter thoroughly is one tip that I have got. This is my first time appearing for Indigo, but a lot of my friends who have got in have advised me to do so. There is no specific topic or book that you can follow to cut down on your work for this one. Pretty much everything has to be done (so I have been told). The exam is different everytime.

@kickass_aviator: thanks for the info. it makes me feel better.

@aniqua: I registered myself on https://pilot.cae.com/ and also sent my CV to the HR person of Indigo, i.e. Parul Huria. You can find her email id on the same ID. I hope this helps.

A/c is corrected for apparent wander at 30 deg S and a/c is flying at 60 deg S
Lat nut correction = 7.5 decreasing (Since apparent wander at 30S is 7.5 inc.)
Apparent wander at 60 S = 12.99 increasing
Apparent wander experienced by a/c = 12.99 inc – 7.5 dec
= 5.49 inc
Total wander mentioned above = 21 inc.
Total wander = Transport wander + Apparent wander
Transport wander = 21 – 5.49 = 15.51
Transport wander = departure X tan lat.
Dept = (15.51/ tan 60) X 60
G/S = 537.2 KTS

P.1.An aircraft heading 130° (M) has an ADF reading of 190° Relative. The heading to steer to intercept the 170° track outbound from the NDB at 30º is:

Heading = 130 M
Rel Bearing = 190

QDM = Heading + Rel Bearing = 130 + 190 = 320

QDR = reciprocal of QDM = 320 -180 = 140. i.e a/c is on the 140 radial/outbound track and heading 130.

If a/c turns 10 degree right it's heading and outbound track will be equal(140 M), if it again turns 30 degree right(170 M) it will fly parallel to 170 outbound track and another 30 degree right (as it has to intercept at 30) it will intercept the 170 track at 30 degree. So it has to turn a total of 10+30+30 =70 degrees to right

Hence heading to steer = 130 M + 70 = 200 M

A particular SID requires a minimum climb gradient of 210 feet per NM to 8,000 feet. If you climb with a groundspeed of 140 knots, what is the rate of climb required in feet per minute?
A) 304
B) 210
C) 450
D) 490

A sailplane has lost 2.000 feet in 9 nautical miles. The best glide ratio for this sailplane is approximately:
A) 24:1
B) 27:1
C) 30:1
D) 18:1

attitudeFlying
7th Apr 2012, 06:29
1) The rate of climb can be calculated manually. Take your ground speed in nautical miles per hour, divide by 60 minutes per hour, and multiply by the climb gradient in feet per nautical mile. The result will be the required rate of climb in feet per minute.

So, the ROC reqd. for the above question will be:
140 knots divided by 60= 2.33333 nautical miles per minute

2.33333 x 210 ft/NM = 490 feet/ min

2) Glide Range= (L/D) x height

Substituting the values we get (L/D)= 27:1

Track 075 M
Heading 082 M
Wind correction angle = 82-75 = 7 deg to the right.

At 1029 Z

NDB PE

Heading + Relative bearing = QDM +/- 180 = QDR

082 + 176 = 258 -180 = 078 QDR

Plan track = 075
Track made good = 078

A/c has drifted 3 deg to the right (78 -75) which means the wind correction angle of 7 deg is more than that required for track 075 M. WCA should be 7 -3 = 4 deg.

NDB PE

Heading + Relative bearing = QDM

082 + 353 = 075 M QDM

To reach NDB PE the A/c needs to track 075M. Wind correction angle for 075 M should be 4 deg as explained above and so the heading to steer should be 075 + 4 = 079M

An aircraft heading 135° (M) with 13° Right drift intercepts the 082° (M) track outbound from an NDB. The relative bearing of the NDB that confirms track interception is:

Heading = 135 M

At the point of interception of 082 M outbound track :

If A/c heading = 082 M then Rel bearing = 180

But heading = 135 M

So rel bearing = 180 - (135-82) = 180 - 53 = 127.

For obstacle clearance, screen height = 50 ft

Climb gradient = 7% after take off i.e. after reaching screen height the a/c will climb 7 ft for every 100 ft horizontal.

At 5400 ft from screen height, height of a/c =50 + [(7 x 5400)/100] = 50 + 378 = 428 ft

obstacle height = 320 ft

1 act QDM 330° act HDG 060° req QDM 350° Intercept HDG?

QDM 330
QDR = 330 - 180 = 150 (Seg AC)
So a/c on radial 150 (Point C)

req QDM = 350, QDR = 170 (Seg AD)

interception angle 45 deg (if angle is not mentioned). *answer to question 3*
angle CED = 45

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/320/intrcpt.jpg

AD parallel to BC

CD perpendicular to AD and BC

In triangle EDC, CED = ECD = 45 deg and EDC = 90 deg

DAC = BCA = 20 deg (QDR 170 - QDR 150)

angle BCD = BCA + ACE + ECD

90 = 20 + ACE + 45

ACE = 25 deg

So if the a/c at point C on seg AC (QDM 330/QDR 150) and wants to intercept seg AD (QDM 350/QDR 170) at 45 deg, it will have to turn left to a heading of 330 - ACE = 330 - 25 = 305.

An aircraft is over flying a VOR at 30.000 ft, at a groundspeed of 300 kt. The maximum time during which no usable signals will be received (in minutes and seconds) is:

As per ICAO, VOR shall provide signal up to a minimum elevation angle of 40 deg.

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/3953/vor2.jpg

Point B is directly overhead VOR at height 30,000 ft.

So angle AOB = 90 - 40 = 50 deg

AB x 2 = total distance in which there will no usable signal.

AB = OB x tan 50 = 30,000 x tan 50 ft.

AB x 2 = 60,000 x tan 50 ft = (60,000 x tan 50) / 6080 nm = 11.76 nm

groundspeed = 300 kts

I agree, there is a confusion here..

Its my understanding that gradient will be the same any which way. But if the wind is no longer still, we use the same gradient and GS. TAS can be used only in still air conditions, but in the example, we clearly have 50kts headwind..
Consider we have to clear an obstacle during T/O, and have a authorized gradient for still wind, but have a tailwind component. We cannot calculate the ROC using TAS.

Hence, for the required problem, we would need to use GS.. Its of course debatable.

1.23 root h1 + 1.23 root h2 = max range

h1 = height of VOR station
h2 = height of a/c

1.23 root 100 + 1.23 root 10000 = 12.3 + 123 = 135.3

If only Flight level is given and height of station = 0 then use 12 root FL i.e. 12 root 100 (if in the above question h1 = 0)

gAMbl3
13th Apr 2012, 11:37
The time interval between the transmission of a given DME interrogation pulse and the reception of the appropriate response pulse at the aircraft is 2 milli seconds. The slant range is:

Time interval = 2 mili sec

Speed of radio wave = 3 x 10^8 m/s

Distance traveled by the pulse in 2 mili sec = (2 x 10^-3) x (3 x 10^8) m = 6 x 10^ 5 m = (6 x 10^5) / 1852 nm = 323.9 nm

In 2 mili sec the pulse has traveled from the a/c to the ground station and back to the a/c.

323.9 nm = distance traveled by the pulse from the a/c to the ground station and back to the a/c.

So distance (slant range) of a/c from ground station = 323.9/2 = 161.9 nm

2 millisec = 2/1000 sec = 2x10*-3 seconds = Time
Speed = Speed of sound = Speed of Radio wave = 300000000 m/s =3x10*8 m/s

Distance = Speed x Time
= (2x10*-3) x (3x10*8) = 6,00,000 m = 600 km
1nm = 1.85 km
Hence, 600km = 600/1.85 = 323.9 nm

This distance is to and fro distance
Hence, 323.9/2 = 161.95 nm

Q 1.a.Aircraft Height= 2500ft which = 0.4111Nm (approx of 1Nm=6080ft)
b. Using 1 in 60 rule we have, Required distance= (0.4111 Nm / 3° ) X60
c. Required D = 8.22 Nm
Note = you can also use trigonometry but you will get answer of 7.8Nm

Q.2.Convergency = change of Longitude X sine of Lat (mean Lat)
= 18 X Sine 60 = 15.5°
Convergent Angle = 15.5/2 which Equals 7.8°

Q.3 Convergency between 030°W & 025°W = 4.33 CA= 2.2
departure= {(Ch"long X60) X Cos Lat} Departure = {(5°X60) x Cos 60}= 150Nm
Using 1 in 60 rule Find distance off track : 2.2 = {Dot / 150 } X 60 = 5.5Nm
Therefore 5.5Nm/60 =5°30' which equates 60°60'S

Q4.departure @ 53° N = 12999Nm ,
Scale @53°N ={133/12999}=18100000 aprx
Scale @ 30 N = {18100000 X cos 30}/Cos 53 = 26000000(apprx to 25000000)

Q.5 convergence = Dlong X sinLat
30 = 40 X sin lat
Sinlaat (constant of cone) = 30/40= 0.75

Question (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far-east/434171-indigo-call-letters-freshers-135.html#post7130495)
Q. Two positions plotted on a Polar Stereographic A 80N000E/W B 70N102W are joined by a Straight line whose highest lattitude is reached at 035W. At point B, the true course is ?
a) 230
b) 203
c) 023
d) 030

Answer (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far-east/434171-indigo-call-letters-freshers-135.html#post7130656)

Diagram has to be drawn, which i cannot here..
A = 80N000E/W lies on smaller circle of 80N intersecting at 000 E/W
B = 70N102W lies on bigger circle of 70N intersecting at 102W
Centre of circle is North Pole (N)

From given data: we get a triangle ANB, Angle ANB=102 (Long diff between A and B),
Required is angle NBA, which is True Course from B to A.
Highest lat=35W, a line drawn from N perpendicular
to AB at point P.
Hence Angle ANP = 35 deg.

In triangle ANP, Ang ANP=35, and NAP=90, hence ang PAN = 180-(90+35) = 55
Now with this data, in triangle ANB, ang ANB=102, ang PAN/BAN = 55, hence ang NBA = 180-(102+55) = 023

NPA should be 90, not NAP, right?

http://i.imgur.com/68Sv9.png

My understanding is that we need to find the true course at B(which isn't really angle NBA). You have done a great job ITAviator. :ok:

Since it is a Polar Stereographic Chart(PSC), Chart convergency = dLong = 102 deg.
Also, in a PSC, above 70N, Great Circles are straight lines. So, APB is a Great Circle. True course of this GC at A can be found out since we have already calculated angle NAP.
True course of GC at A is 360-55=305.
Convergency is equal to the difference between the GC directions between two given meridians. So, difference between true course of GC at A and B is convergency i.e. 102. Also, westerly in N.H., GC direction decreases.
So, true course of GC at B=305-102= 203

Correct me if wrong, please.:E

Thanks for your method, I usually opt trigo for solving as I find it easier, although your approach is great.
Although the last step should be: 203-180 = 023
Reason: N is North, the True Course at A for B is 305, hence the corresponding course from B to A has to approx be less than 180, its not practical otherwise. You can try drawing a general Lambert's figure for same to get a better idea.

Note: The angle NBA is the true course at B. True course is always, if not mentioned otherwise, a GC track. Here the line B to N i.e. BN is True North and BA is GC, hence NBA is True GC track at B for A.

That question (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far-east/434171-indigo-call-letters-freshers-135.html#post7130495) could have been framed better. It is a very good question but has been framed ambiguously.

If it is-What is the value of initial straight line track from B to A? Then ITAviator's answer (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far-east/434171-indigo-call-letters-freshers-136.html#post7135242) 023 is correct.
If it asked-What is the value of the final straight line track from A to B? Then, my answer (http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far-east/434171-indigo-call-letters-freshers-136.html#post7134831) of 203 is correct.

So on the 17th the exam was pretty easy. Honestly not tough. If youve really studied, you would clear.

I'm going to try and put down as many questions as i can.
Human performance, in my exam was the key, so that, you have to do thoroughly, there were a bunch of questions so you have to really do that book inside out, again this was for my exam I've heard in the past that many questions haven't come from this topic.

QUESTIONS FROM MY EXAM

REGS

emergency codes, highjack radio comm failure.
ifr altitudes to be maintained inside and outside controlled airspace.
light signals double cross at an airport - that is glider flying in progress.

MET
tropopause altitude at the equator and at poles.
windshear, is it caused due to updrafts or downdrafts below a cb.
a metar question where they gave a code it was a strange one it was numbers, atleast 8 of them and they asked what is the state of the runway.
raining, snow, broken, or braking coefficient which was .28 not sure about the answer.

HUMAN PERFORMANCE
Tons of questions, hypoxia, hyperventilation, SHELL model, psychological processes. Honestly I dont remember them all. BUT DO THIS TOPIC WELL.

INSTRUMENTS- not much
Magnetism- directive force.
DG.
Mach No, speed of sound, TAS calculations.

GENERAL/ BASIC NAV
descent
lots of calculations on G/S determining wind speeds etc - Flight computer can be used for most.
ISOGRIVES - not sure what that was but it might be lines connecting places of equal grivation. Thats what I marked atleast.

RADIO NAV
Nothing came from here. Surprisingly.

OK IMPORTANT ONE HERE. - FLIGHT PLANNING.
atleast 5 questions came from here. cant recall them all, but there were some regarding particular items in a flight plan. item no.7, item no. 9, wake turbulence categories.
I hadnt done anything from flight planning, so it was a bit of an issue.

AERODYNAMICS
10 Questions towards the end of the paper
mainly about stalling, what affects stall speed, stall speed in a 60 degree turn 1.41 percent etc.
Position of CP in relation to Aerodynamic center in a symmetrical aerofoil.
CL= 0 for a positively cambered aerofoil at what angle of attack positive, negative, neutral.

PERFORMANCE
Nothing from here as far as i remember.

OK GUYS SO AGAIN THIS IS WHAT MY PAPER WAS LIKE. So any advice that i may have offered may not be what you have to study, because the exam varys all the time. If I could give any useful advice, well then just study hard I know everybody says this, but it does pay off, no shortcuts.

Hope this helps. If I do remember anything else I will keep you'll posted.

A special shoutout to Gambl3, really appreciated the responses to almost every question that I posted on this thread. Thanks alot.

Can Some body please solve this for me :

What is the slant range error for an aircraft flying at 9000 feet absolute altitude above a DME located at elevation 2000 ft, when the slant range is 12 NM?

A)0,09 NM.
B)0,57 NM.
C)1,42 NM.
D)0,31 NM.

What is the slant range error for an aircraft flying at 9000 feet absolute altitude above a DME located at elevation 2000 ft, when the slant range is 12 NM?

A)0,09 NM.
B)0,57 NM.
C)1,42 NM.
D)0,31 NM.

The difference between slant range and true horizontal range can be tested using the following equation:

True Range = √(Slant Range squared – Aircraft Height squared)

The wording of the question is rather curious in that it states that the “an aircraft at 9000 feet absolute altitude above a DME located at 2000 feet elevation”. This should be interpreted as meaning that the height of the aircraft is 9000 feet above the DME.

Multiplying by 1 nm / 6080 feet converts the 9000 feet into 1.48 nm

With the aircraft at 1.48 nm above the DME at slant range of 12 nm we have the following:

True Range = √(Slant Range squared – Aircraft Height squared)

True Range = √(12 nm squared – 1.48 nm squared) = 11.91.

So the slant range is 12 nm and the true range is 11.91 nm, giving an error of 0.09 nm.

An aircraft flying at flight level 250 wishes to interrogate a DME beacon situated 400 ft above mean sea level.
What is the maximum range likely to be achieved?
A)198 nm.
B)222 nm.
C)175 nm.
D)210 nm.

Because radio waves travel in straight lines, the maximum range of DME is limited by the height of the aeroplane, the height of the transmitter and the curvature of the earth.

Maximum range can be calculated using the standard equation:

Max range = 1.25 x (√ aircraft height + √ ground station height)

The aircraft is at FL250 which is 25000 feet.

The DME ground station is at 400 feet so:

Max range = 1.25 x (√ 25000 ft + √ 400 ft) = 222.64 nm.

The closest option is 222 nm.

Any idea on what would be the best books to use in preparing for the DGCA CPL theory papers (beginner; self study) would be of great help.

This time exams were conducted over a period of 3 days . The norm was usually 2 days with 50 candidates on each day .

So does that mean there were 150 candidates for April attempt ?

Can those of you who had the exams on the 16 , 17 , 18 confirm that there were atleast 50 candidates on each day of the exam ?
Any idea about the pass rates on each day ?

There is a lot of speculation about wether or not the next exam will happen.

If Somebody could post some first hand information regarding this. It will be a huge help.

Question: Will there be another attempt soon? Approximately WHEN?

PS: I realize almost everybody is looking for the same answer. I still just wanted to put this. I am too desperately trying to find out. I will post the same if I find out something.

Thanks

The fact is .... there are a lot of people waiting for either sim checks or ground training. Right now especially with the amount of people on standby (those who have already been inducted) they would be foolish to have monthly recruitments until they clear present backlog.

so when is candidate considered inducted? After the interview or the sim check?

i cleared my written in June 2011 and having done with my Interview and sim check i'm yet to join.

After clearing your interview if you are planning to take a loan for your type rating please bear in mind that it will take almost 1 year to sign the final consensual with IndiGo.
