@livetokill
Have you got the answer for the question...
If my method is right then the answer might be close to 313. I'll explain it further if its right.
Expecting a reply... thanks...

@Airtransporter
The answer is 315 and what you have here is the closest to it, so yeah its right.
Can you please explain the method.
Thanks heaps!

Answer:
Let’s assume an imaginary point X on (4830N 01000W)
[Draw a diagram for your reference]
Now the coordinates of A and B with point X form a right angle triangle (straight line AB will be a great circle path, AB being the hypotenuse)
Find distances AX and XB using distance and departure formula.
You’ll get AX = 210nm and XB = 198.
Now further you can calculate angle BAX using trigonometry tangent formula. This comes to around 43.5 degrees. The direction of line AB is true north (360)
So, we get the great circle track of 317.
(din't apply CA properly when I calculated it first)
After applying conversion angle (2 degrees) the rhumb line track will be 315.

Hi All!!

I appeared for the exam on 26th and cleared!!! :cool:

Il try to recollect the question and post it here in a couple of days....

Even though I didnt study as hard as the guys have mentioned here...I found the exam EASY!!! :bored:

The only thing was the time!! You really have to rush.. We had 2hrs for 100 questions and by the end of the 1st hour I was on the 37th question only.. :uhoh:

So i had to rush through the wholle of 2nd hour.... :ugh:

As always they dint ask jet or any other type of engine, only basic nav, met, regs, radio aids stuff. As for the human performance if you just do the last 6 question papers (the summary papers) you dont need to go through the whole book.

and if possible increase solving speed (atleast more than me)

will post the topics asked in the exam in a couple of days

Cheers :)

yes the exams are being organised on a monthly basis around the 25-29 of every month. They were held in march end then april end, and i think they will be conducted again in may end(though i dont have any proof to back it up, but im just considering the recent exam pattern).
And yes, I think studying for a month and then applying for it would increase the chances of clearing it but only if the exam is conducted in a fair manner(not saying if it is fair or not).
BEST OF LUCK TO You!!!:ok:

There is a 6 months cool down period before you can appear again so anyhow you get plenty of time to study hard .

aadityaslg
29th Apr 2011, 10:15
There has been so much discussion in this thread, but there is hardly any mention of the GD and the Interview that follows the written test.

Please put in your inputs.. I am not asking this to help myself, inf act I have never appeared for the Indigo test.

There is a GD for indigo. Happens on the day of the interview. But it is not as intensive as Jet airways GD I believe.

aadityaslg
29th Apr 2011, 13:25
@ ShivamSaxena - so you did not get through the jet GD. Well I am still waiting for the jet gd dates..

Lets say they pass a total of 20 guys in the written test.
So how many do you think, make it through the GD and Interview in Indigo?

For all those who've appeared for the 6E exam,

1. Is there negative marking? What is the pass percentage?

2. Has anyone come across questions pertaining to Compass Swinging in the exam?

3. According to JAR standards, Aircraft's are classified into Class A, B and C, depending on the performance, seating capacity/MTOW. Has anyone come across questions specific to the above mentioned 3 classes or just general performance?

5th May 2011, 09:01
Ok so i cleared the indigo assessment and was issued the LOI yesterday:O:O....to start off let me tell you fellows that the assessment is 500% genuine:ok: and definetely not an eye wash as people claim it to be...all the guys including me belong to middle class families and have no connections or overflowing bank balances to jack it on to a 320 ....have faith take my word its the most professional airline in india and is making a genuine effort to hie the best people it can get its hand on....and in this place of never ending scams its the best hope for all of you who have no money nor connections but a fire in them to achieve success who are hard working and passionate.....dont lose hope work hard and success will follow....

the process stated in march with the written test ,all of you are familiar with what kind of questions are asked ,go through the oxford ATPL books thoroughly no shortcuts here its the only thing that will get you through ,,dgca syllabus doesnt work here and if you want to clear the paper go through oxford books ..main emphasis on Principles of flight and human performance ,radio and gen nav are also imp ...Indian air law notes shall suffice for the regulations part....a lot of numericals are being asked these days learn how to crack them...CX2 and calculators are allowed so its just about knowing the formula and running your brain....what i did was i completed the paper and then attempted the numericals it worked for me plan your own strategy .....100 questions 2 hours....keep a tab on your time dont get stuck in a question for too long........after the written the result is declared the same day normally 3-6 guys out of 50-60 clear...its the biggest hurdle to cross for now focus on the written worry about the next parts later on....

If you are knowledgeable enough to clear the written you will start the part 2 of the process....this part is conducted by CAE with the help of symbiotics ltd a Uk based company which specialises in mapping your brain gathering everything about you and attempts to know how your brain works ....you first go through a questionnaire asking how you react to certain things and what are your views on certain things ......Second part is CASS its the mofo designed to push you to the limits you have to fly a fast military A/C with a non trimmable joystick ...small inputs produce big reactions .....simultaneously hundreds of questions are thrown at you.....other A/c cross your path things appear out of nowhere and you have to respond to all of this simultaneously answer these pretty hard questions of spatial,numerical and other kinds of resoning questions stoop questions are also abundant....the examiner all this while will try to distract you with her chit chat and noises....be calm respond to things in the best way you can and please dont crash the plane ,its quite easy to do it in such an environment ....you will have to remember things you heard earlier and recall this later on .....all in all its a very challenging this and will push you to your limits and you will feel very dejected afterwards ...dont be the examiner is trying to spot this kind of behaviour......many candidates break up in CASS ,dont,keep your spirits high there is no way to do this perfectly ...i was not able to answer half the questions even lost my bearing...the important thing is to bounce back and complete the task......

There is an english test is easy enough no prep required.....
After you finish with this all your data is analysed by the ADAPT team and a report is prepared on you...

After this very tiring day you wait for the interview call.....everyone is called
first two rounds of GD are conducted by the Indigo panel ,two v.p and the chief pilot....its quite friendly and laid back....all are very good people and very professional.....keep your points ,dont fight be courteous ,let others speak and keep all your points....agree with the majority if time is low but keep your reservations......
In the personal interview you are asked mostly HR questions and is quite laid back...but dont show any unprofessionalism ....some weather and jepp charts questions were asked of me by the chief pilot......the interview lasted almost 20 minutes

result will be declared soon after the interview ....keep you fingers crossed

Good post by flybylight23. I completely agree with what he/she has said. I too cleared the selection process and felt that the entire process was extremely professional and created specifically to hire the best candidates.

The experiences faced by flybylight23 during the process are exactly what I faced as well. The written exam can only be cleared by studying hard and having an adequate knowledge about all the aviation subjects. The CASS does make you feel extremely discouraged after you have completed it.

The group discussion was a very good experience for me, as was the interview. Like the poster mentioned it is very very important to display professionalism; you are applying for a job and you need to realize the seriousness of it. However the interviewers try and make you feel as comfortable as possible, and it helps you answer their questions better.

Do not go looking for conspiracies and waste your time and energy. This interview process has confirmed my belief that sincere hard work, a positive attitude and shear effort are the only things that pay.

Congrats to all those who have cleared, however, I would like to advise that its not over yet, and whats coming next will require more determination and sincere effort, so keep up the good work.

as mentioned in CAR SERIES B PART IV
Aircraft General Knowledge includes

a) principles of operation and functioning of aeroplane power plants, systems
and instruments;
b) operating limitations of appropriate aeroplanes and power plants; relevant
operational information from the flight manual or other appropriate
document;
c) use and serviceability checks of equipment and systems of appropriate
aeroplanes;
d) maintenance procedures for airframes, systems and power plants of
appropriate aeroplanes

so does tht mean upcoming attempts will include questions on the power plant and systems, like the Jet Airways test??? :rolleyes:

Can't say anything as of now. They may change their exam procedure to DGCA level also.
So that more students can clear the exam and go for the next round.
But overall it is a very good step as the first round is Free.
Its only after this exam one can get an idea how much has changed!!

@umangpilot
i got an e-mail from you too :E sorry i won't be able to help you out on that, i have a lifetime RTR(A) license, so i'm not sure what the rules concering RTR(C) are
the wpc department has always been a tough nut for me to crack, took me 4 attempts to pass it, and eventually when i pay rs. 10,000/- for a lifetime license, they issue me the RT without the validity date on there (2069, 2070 or whatever year was supposed to be on there), leaving me to wonder if tomorrow either dgca or the wpc department refuse to accept it as a lifetime license because of their own carelessness, anyone here have a solution to this?
anyway, coming back to your question, my solution would be to go for RT classes to someone reputed such as MK singh (to whom i went to after failing 3 times with my own study and passed the first attempt with him), and re-take both part 1 and part 2, pay rs. 10,000/-, and get yourself a lifetime license as well :ok: it's a long-term solution and the tough way out to pass both parts, but atleast you won't have to worry about renewal ever again, i only hope they don't forget to put the validity date on your license like they did for me :ugh: good luck!

sudeep6258

thanks a ton dude, yep same place for me too - mumbai! glad to know i'm not the only one for whom they left out the validity date
it kinda irks me when i go onto the dgca site to look up my license records, and there's a date for everyone else's RT license expiry, and a blank space for mine :{ is it the same blank space on your records on the dgca site too? hopefully i get it fixed soon :cool:

someone here confirm that rate of descent = descent gradient (in degrees) * ground speed * 100 whole divided by 60, and similarly rate of climb = climb gradient (in degrees) * ground speed * whole divided by 60 as well? anyone with a different formula than this?

harsh786techy
15th May 2011, 13:51
Its TAS instead of GS..

superdunkaroos
15th May 2011, 14:19
^^
No its not...

aroumika
15th May 2011, 14:31
@harsh786techy
definitely can't be TAS because rate of descent and climb depends on the a/c speed with relation to the ground distance covered, hence ground speed :)

dhruv200
15th May 2011, 14:51
its not gradient..it's approach slope angle or glide slope angle...

ROD= G.S.A X 100 X G.S/60

planeboy_777
15th May 2011, 15:27
@ aroumika

What logic are you applying girl......:ugh::ugh::ugh:
(i presume) you must have noticed that During climb or descend the ROC remains constant no matter its head wind or tail wind ..
still not understood i'll explain you with the help of formulae

ROC(ft/min)= TAS(kts) x Gradian%

i.e for if you remember 5 times the ground speed gives ROD in ILS approach
that 5 is 5.2% gradient...we use ground speed in because we have to descend to a point on earth which is fixed
so
ROC(fpm)= GS([[fixed]] for each type of aircraft) x Gradient%(which is for obvious 5.2% 3 degrees of G/Slp

now you are climbing 3000ft to 10000ft "IN AIR" which is not a fixed point on the earth as i mentioned it earlier for ILS.

So it's again
ROC(fpm)=TAS X Gamma(%)

now lets clear your doubt regarding Hdwind and tailwind
in headwind
ROC = TAS (decreases) x gamma (increases)

in tailwind
ROC = TAS (increases) x gamma (decreases)

so ROC is already compensated for winds except for ILS approaches and calculating Glide speed

if you have any then please try to fill these concepts in your brains

Better for you
Better for us.:ok::ok::ok:

To all Rather than Posting your E-mail Id on this thread to receive Questions and increasing the length of thread with not so important posts like " Mail me @ this @ that @ ......."

Please Mail to this ID - [email protected]
For Question Bank

Question Bank will be Mailed to you with in a span of 2 hours !

PS : Those who have given the written exam for May please send QUESTIONS asked to above mentioned E-mail id ( [email protected] ) or ( [email protected] ).

No updates from todays exam??

aadityaslg
17th May 2011, 18:22
Very disappointed with the support of guys who appeared on the 16th & 17th of May, not a single one to revert back with the test questions.

You have forced me to ask myself.. as to why am I doing this?
I mean why is anybody doing this favour to "YOU"

So now Question Bank 2 will be sent only to Pilots who have appeared for the May attempt and contributed to the question Bank with actual test questions.

You can keep the questions to your self, but if only 10% of the Pilots send in 20 questions each, an intersection of those questions will leave us with an accurate set of at least 250 questions from the May attempt itself.

Question Bank 2 will not be sent to anyone before the MAY attempt is over!

All the guys sending in request for the questions to [email protected] will receive the Question Bank 1 only!

And guys who have made it through, I am sure the question bank must have helped you a bit, may be you would like to return the favor.

@ Johny Boy - Thanks!

Hey can u please explain me the solution for this question..

You are flying at FL 160. Outside air temperature is -27° C, and the pressure at sea level is 1003 hPa. What is the true altitude?
A) 15090 feet.
B) 16910 feet.
C) 15630 feet.
D) 16370 feet.
Ans is (A) 15090

How are we getting 15090??

planeboy_777
18th May 2011, 18:06
True altitude = Indicated altitude + (ISA dev x 4 x Thousands of feet)

= 16000 + (-10 x 4 x 16)
= 16000+(-640)
= 16000-640
= 15360ft (on 1013.25)
Height difference is 1013-1003=10Hpa
therefore 10Hpa x 30= 300ft of height difference between 1013 and 1003

so 15360ft-300ft=
15060FT(1003hpa)

silly numerical man!!!:yuk::yuk::yuk::yuk:

you made me remember my primary school days man thanks :)

Aviator4u
18th May 2011, 18:11
For true altitude altimeter will be set to 1003 which is the sea level pressure given. so 1013-1003=10*30=300 ft under-reading when set to SLP.

true altitude under standard temp conditions would be 16000-300=15700ft

ISA temp at FL 160=15-32=-17 degrees.Given OAT= -27 degrees which is 10 degrees lower than standard temp.

we know,for every 10 degree warmer atmosphere from standard,we add 4% of indicated to get true altitude. In this case its 10 degrees colder so we will subtract 4%of 15700=628ft under reading

so true altitude 15700-628=15072ft.

P.S.-Though I m not very sure,but acc to me this should be the probable solution to this question.Cheers!!!

Also, what type of questions did they ask this time? Were they different from the last attempts since they made changes? Are all the questions 'Oxford' based? Will sticking to the oxford set of books as study material be enough?

DJ Flyboy
19th May 2011, 14:22
This whole Indigo selection process is one tuf nut to crack and its not because of the difficulty level of the exam:=..They say 70 % is passing..theres no way in hell i would have got less than 70%..and im sure there were many more who would have scired more than that no. The invigilator even said that they are just looking at 70% pass mark and not a perticular percentage of ppl to recruit.HA..they selected just ONE:mad: yeah just ONE wtf:confused:.??.

The level was not even half as tough as it has been made out to be by most of the ppl here..lots of questions from the question bank on this forum..20Qs from Air Law like vfr minimas light codes squak codes etc, Very simple numericals..CDMVT, Mach No, scale factor and stall speed calculation. Lots of human factors questions..again not very difficult..abt 10-15 met questions and the rest was made up of performance and priniples of flt..eg drag AoA etc Speeds..And no jet stuff only reciprocating engine questions..

I want to ask somebody who made it thru..did you score above 95 % :8??

Still cant figure out their selection criteria..its not 70 % for sure..either its 95 and above or they are looking for something else..
Will put up all the questions i can remeber by tomorrow or day after..
All the best to the ppl who are going to take this exam in the future..you need all the luck u can get..

And congrats to Varun Shrivastav the name of the guy who got selected..if you are on this forum plz plz plz tell me the secret..

Will sticking to the oxford set of books as study material be enough? Yeah everything from JAA ATPL syllybus + all the DGCA stuff. The pattern is still the same except this time there were a lot of air law questions.

@turnpike007
yes just one met chart in the exam on 17th, there was a taf report with an option of 4 airports in the chart, and the question was which airport the TAF report suits the most

@everyone else
yea the test is just a few questions from DGCA CPL level which don't require much preparation, and mostly from JAA ATPL, the 2 main books being covered is human factors and instruments. Majority of the ATPL questions come from these 2 books, if you know them inside out, you have a fair chance of passing

aroumika
20th May 2011, 07:42
@aadityaslg
yea dude, chill about the question bank thing, the exam is still going to be extremely tough and the questions are always going to be switched around, so the question bank is no guarantee of anyone passing, it could only boost someone's marks by around 5 or 10 at the most

This was your PM to me.
You expect me to request you your email id and then send you the QB?

Help
hey buddy..i m also appearing for indigo cae in april after a year and a half waiting time...
if u cud just help me wid some q's u know being asked typical and unseen q's and pattern...
will be grt help...
thnx

Next you come up with this.

bcse there is no need to be authoritarian abt who will get the q bank and who wont....

and if u r arrogant abt the q's u have found answer to let me inform u they are all not right...i sent u a mail with right answers ant their refrences but u dint event revert....

though those q bank is good idea and will help lots of fellow pilots..
And i will contribute further to the q'b from may attempt...since it's for all gud
and not show my inverted attitude...

You are right.. I am no one to decide that.

That is exactly why I have sent out around the QB to all 150 guys.
Now for the second question bank, its purely give and take!
If guys want to create a new QB2 for themselves you can't be stopping us from doing so.

This is a great thread that should help everyone, and you are most welcome to share your questions here.

If anyone had issues with the "email way" of going about it, they could have simply copy-pasted the QB here!!
Why didn't they do that? You can do that now if you want, I am no one to stop you from doing so. I don't own the QB!

And how does this make me an authoritarian with and inverted attitude?
