Correction,he said 52 aircrafts by this years end. People from december's induction are still to be online,most probably first week of july.since december they have already inducted close to 60 people. So if you do the math,they need 70 more pilots by this years end,an avg of only 10 pilots per month. And donot forget,a lot of pilots from AI would be joining IndiGo too.

Ques: Aircraft flying at 6000' enters cone of confusion.wht is the diameter of the cone in (nm)?

Thank You

23rd Jun 2011, 10:28
What are the kind of questions that are being asked under
- Air Regulations
- Meteorology
- Jet Engines

Please do post your replies. Much needed and would be highly appreciated.

g_viky2001
23rd Jun 2011, 12:04
radius cone of confusion = alt (in nm) x tan 50

6000'/6080'=0.98 nm

0.98 x tan 50 = 1.16 nm

so diameter = 1.16 x 2 = 2.3 nm

kush3370
23rd Jun 2011, 12:28
@ Viky

Which book did u find the formula to calculate the cone of confusion from?

planeboy_777
23rd Jun 2011, 12:45
the cone of confustion is
50 degrees of either side of the normal(earth vertical) from the Vor

This is from Oxford

Dushrox
23rd Jun 2011, 13:29
I am trying to make sense of your formula

If one is about 6000` high which corresponds to 1 nm , by the answer you suggested the cone of confusion`s diameter is more than 2nm. It just doesnt seem right ! If thats the case then VOR doesnt seem accurate enough. Theres gotta be some other formula.

yash
23rd Jun 2011, 13:50
Guys this is such a simple problem and there is actually no formula , its simple trigonometry .

TAN 0 = PERPENDICULAR/BASE

Angle is 50 degrees
Base is the altitude of a/c
Perpendicular is the radius of cone of confusion .

I need help regarding solving of these questions,i am not able to get the concept to solve these meteorology problem,i would really appreciate if some one could help me out in these concepts

Q1. MSA given as 12000ft, flying over mountains in temperatures +9*c ,QNH set as 1023.what will the true altitude when 12000 ft is reached?
a. 11,940
b. 11,148
c. 12,210
D. 12,864
ANS -D{..........how plz explain.....}

Q2.Flying at FL135above the sea, the Radio altimeter indicates a true altitude of 13500ft. the local QNH is 1019hpa.hence the crossed air mass is on average,

a. At ISAstandard atmospher
b. Colder than ISA
C. Warmer than ISA
D. There is insufficient information
ANS-B{...why plz explain...}

Q3. You are flying at FL160 with an OAT OF -27*C.QNH is 1003 hpa. what is your true altitude?
a.15540 ft
b.15090 ft
c.16330 ft
d.15730 ft
ANS-B{.....how plz explain.....}

Q4. What is approximate vertical interval which is equal to a pressure change of 1hpa at an altitude of 5500m?
a. 8m{27ft}
b. 32m{105ft}
c. 64m{210ft}
d. 15m{50ft}
ANS-D{....how plz explain...}.

thanks

1) When the temp. at a give alt is not ISA you need to make corrections to the indicated altitude to get True altitude.
The correction is for every 10*C above/below ISA you need to apply (add/sub) a correction of 4% to the Indicated altitude to get the true altitude.

ISA dev at 12000 ft = actual (9*C) - ISA (-9*C) = 9+9 = 18*C

10*C= 4% correction so 18*C = 7.2 % correction

7.2% of 12000 = 864ft

So since the temp at the given altitude is above ISA add the correction of 864ft to the indicated altitude of 12,000ft.
So the answer is 12,000+864 = 12,864ft.

3) Again similar to Q no.1. Since ISA deviation here is -10*C you will need to subtract 4% of 16000ft from16000ft which is 16000-640 = 15360.

Now since you are flying at FL 160 you will have set the altimeter setting as 1013.25. And your true altitude is based on your QNH which is 1003. So you will have to make an additional correction i.e 1003-1013 = -10 x 27 (1mb = 27ft) = -270

So finally true altitude = 15360-270 = 15090.

4) There are some fixed values given is some books as to the how the value of 1mb changes from S.L upto 40,000 ft.

From what I can recall for every 1 hpa the change in ht. varies like this:

@ S.L= 27ft, @ 2,000ft = 30ft, @20,000ft = 50ft and @ 40,000ft = 100ft

5500m = about 18,000 ft so the closest answer is 50ft.

Sorry about Q no.4.. I'm not really good at explaining stuff as you can see. I'm not able to explain it in words. Perhaps if I could draw I could explain it better. But I will try to put it in words and get back.

Sir/Ma'am,

Your query has already been answered in this forum. Just go through the last 10-15 pages of this thread.

Nonetheless, email Ms. Parul Huria and Ms. Radhika once again. You can also write to them that you've been waiting for over a year now.

Secondly, now even Ms. Sandra Pinto replies on behalf of Pilot Provisioning. You can email her too on [email protected]

All the best.

How many pilots are indigo recruiting??

Is the recruitment going on every month then how many in an avg. are they recruiting?

What type of Qus. do they ask in there assessment? Specific/performance/regulations/navigation or CPL stuff??

Indigo gives any prefrence to CAE TR students over other schools like Simcentre or PanAm

Is it an necessary to the TR from CAE or we can do the TR from any reputed schools which is DGCA recognized?

I need answers of above questions..your reply is highly appreciated!

In which, 33 thousand will be detected as govt. taxes!!:yuk:

that means you are earning 77 thousand per month only!!!:{

can anyone tell me how much spicejet is paying after spending10 lakh's for TR + (jugaad money, if any) :rolleyes:

Aviator4u
30th Jun 2011, 10:07
77 thousand must be their basic pay without flying allowances. Once you are released as First Officer,you get close to 1.4. I think spicejet pays around 90k(after taxes and 17k deducted for training).

@Aviator4u
the 5 lac increase in 737 TR for jet airways is what i've heard from the recent batch that has got through all 5 stages, however they've been put on the ATR though, so there's a likelihood that some of the future jet batches might get put on the ATR, but luckily for them, the ATR TR is half as costly as 737

Well the increase in price is due to the change in syllabus for A320 TR. DGCA has added a NIGHT SKILL CHECK to the syllabus. So that would mean 2 additions FFS sessions which in turn leads to extra $'s to be paid by the trainees. Guys with a latest NOC for A320 can verify it.

Gud luck to every 1.

i do agree there r elimination rounds but they are pretty easy as compared to the writtens ..also indigo requires a lot of pilots at the moment and they need the best....not many make it to the LOI := but from the last july attempt itll be fun to see how many end up getting the LOI out of 47 :eek:

A) (i) anti-clockwise (ii) clockwise

UNOS UNDERSHOOT NORTH OVER SHOOT SOUTH in the north hemis and the opposite in the southern hemisphere- ur example UNDERSHOOT SOUTH OVER SHOOT NORTH is in the south hemisphere
the ac is turning frm 045 to 315 - in the case its a north heading in the southern hem ull over shoot cause its a north head cause ur in the southern hemisphere ull overshoot so turn level on hdg 310......THE MAGNET IS TUNING CLOCKWISE AND LUQUID SQ DOESNT ADD THE ERROR ITS TURNING ANTICLOCK

liquid squirl adds to the errors in the northernly heading in the northern hemis and southernly heading in the southern hemis-:ok: HOPE U GOT IT

IndiGo, Canada's CAE to set up pilot training centre in India

TORONTO: Montreal-based CAE, a world leader in providing simulators for training pilots, and InterGlobe Enterprises Limited of India have announced to form a joint venture training centre in India.

InterGlobe Enterprise Limited of India is the parent agency of low-cost carrier IndiGo.

According to a statement by the Indian high commission Friday, the new centre will be set in the National Capital Region of Delhi and provide pilot and maintenance training for the Indian aviation market.

To be the fifth aviation training centre operated by CAE in India, it will become operational by end of 2012.

The focus of the new centre will be to provide 'wet-and-dry' type rating, recurrent, conversion and jet indoctrination training for pilots and training programmes for maintenance technicians, according to the high commission statement.

Before flying commercial aircraft, pilots undergo up to 75 hours of training on simulators and there are different simulators for different aircraft. Pilots don't switch to fly other aircraft for which they don't have simulator training.

"In aviation lingo, recurrent refers to fresh simulator training for a pilot when he switches airlines to fly new aircraft. Conversion refers to simulator training for newly hired trained pilots by airlines and jet indoctrination refers to long periods of familiarization with wide-bodied aircraft," according to aviation expert Hemant Shah here.

The formation of a joint venture by CEA and InterGlobe was earlier announced at the Paris Air Show last month.

Making the announcement, Jeff Roberts, CAE Group president (civil simulation products, training and services, had said,

"India is estimated to need more than 7,000 new commercial pilots over the next seven years and our Delhi training centre will help support this growth."

Each year, CAE trains over 1,500 crew members, including pilots from Air India, Go Air, IndiGo , Jet Airways , Kingfisher Airlines and SpiceJet , at its training centre in Bengaluru.

CAE is only one of the two aviation simulator makers in the world. The other is US-based Frasca. Because of the heavy demand for simulators, the waiting period for delivery is said to be over fours years.

1.An a/c obtains a relative bearing of 315deg. from an NDB at 0830. At 0840 the relative bearing from the same position is 270deg. Assuming no drift and GS of 240kt, what is the approx. range from the NDB at 0840?
a. 60nm
b. 30nm
c. 40nm
d. 50nm

the way i solved is :
time the a/c is away from station = time in sec / brg change
=> (10 x 60)/ 45
13.3min
and then dist from grnd station = GS per min. x (13.3)

is this correct way to solve...!!
please help

13th Jul 2011, 06:40
The distance travelled by the aircraft in 10mins for bearing change is 40Nm( 10/60 multiply 240).The angle between the two bearings is 45 degrees.So the triangle formed is an isoceles triangle.Therefore the distance travelled in 10 mins is also the distance to the NDB.....:ok::ok::ok:

Answer - 40Nm

Hi everyone :)

I have a few questions that I hope someone will be able to answer

Does IndiGo require a valid IR rating on the multi to get called for the assessment with CAE ?

Because on the CAE website it says that all licenses and ratings must be valid at all times ? Does this include IR rating on the multi too ?

Is this the reason why some people( those who dont have a valid multi IR ) dont get called by CAE for written exam ?

Is there anyone here on this forum or know someone who got called for the CAE written exam with lapsed multi IR rating ?

Thanks for your time :)

A) It increases by 3° .
B) It decreases by 3° .
C) It decreases by 6° .
D) It increases by 6° .

2)Given: value for the ellipticity of the Earth is 1/297. Earths semi-major axis, as measured at the equator, equals 6378.4 km. What is the semi-minor axis (km) of the earth at the axis of the Poles?
A) 6 367.0
B) 6 399.9
C) 6 378.4
D) 6 356.9

m not sure abt the 1st and 3rd but heres the solution for 2nd one

ellipticity of the Earth = (axis at equator - axis at pole) / axis equator

1/277 = (6378.4 - x )/ 6378.4

it gives x = 6 356.9

:)

@stalwart2010
2nd one :)

A 45° N 14° 12W
B 45° N 12° 48E?

here convergency = Dlong x sin mean lat
= 27 x sin 45
19deg
therefore CA = 9.5
A to B, R/L track is 90deg, applying CA in northern hemisphere gives 80,4° (T)

i hope this helps

the change of track btn any two points on great circle is equal to the convergency of the meridians btn those two points
so in this quest.
convgny=7°xsin 60 =6.06°
so the great circle track inc by approx 6°:ok:

Go through the previous pages..a lot has been mentioned about the questions which have been repeated in the previous attemps.So far nothing much from systems.Concentrate more on Instruments,Radio Aids,Human Performance,Met and Regs.Apart from dgca you need to study JAA syllabus as well the.Good Luck:ok:

Dear All,

I can see from the posts above that the July attempt will be held on 28th and 29th of July. I am very keen to appear for this attempt. I had received an email from Miss Sandra Pinto about the exam which was to be conducted on the 18th, 19th and 20th of this month asking for my details. After that i have had no intimation about the change of dates. Is there any one in the same situation?? I am starting to get anxious......Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. :sad:

The great circle track X - Y measured at x is 319° , and Y 325° Consider the following statements
A) Northern hemisphere, Rhumb line track is 322° .
B) Northern hemisphere, Rhumb line track is 313° .
C) Southern hemisphere, Rhumb line track is 331° .
D) Southern hemisphere, Rhumb line track is 322°

FL 150 , TAS=250 Kts , OAT= -12Degree Icing will occur-
a. Over flat terrain,away from fronts,moderate to severe Mixed Ice
b. Pushed by clouds against the mountains,moderate to severe Mixed Ice
c. Moderate to severe Rime Ice

Flashing green lights to a/c already taxing on ground means???
(since it is already taxing, what does it imply??)

c. Moderate to severe Rime Ice

0deg to -7deg Severe Ice
-7deg to -12deg Moderate Ice
-12deg to -20deg Light Ice
-20deg to -40deg Very LightIce
And from -10deg to -40deg Rime Ice Occurs
Mixed Ice (Rime + Clear) occurs when there is wide range of water drops. Since it is not mentioned. Rime Ice would be appropriate in general conditions. But Icing range should have been Moderate-Light.

D) Southern hemisphere, Rhumb line track is 322°

And last one is still Clear to Taxi. Correct me if i'm wrong on this one.

Its unfortunately sad on the same time very frustrating to say that barring 3 ppruners no one has ever posted a single question asked in recent CAE Indigo assessment from May onwards...Even last time in June attempt,the exam was taken for full 5 days and not even a single person has posted about it.

It was clearly mentioned in QB-1 that even a 15 question per person would have provided original compiler of Question Bank enough ammunition to spoon feed every reader of this thread but sadly there was not single pilot reverting back with email.

QB-1 was made from contribution of those pilots who took personal choice of putting effort for others and distribute questions asked on this very thread or email it to the person who started compiling it.

For those who are searching or requesting for QB-2.

Read back all the pages of this thread and you will get fair idea of questions compiled in QB-2.
QB-1 has been posted in this thread too...just incase someone is looking for it.

QB-1 is for all.

All the best.
