Ques: The lift coefficient (CL) of an aeroplane in steady flight is 0.42, increase in angle of attack of 1 degree increases CL by 0.1. A vertical up gust instantly changes the AOA by 3 degrees. The load factor will be?

Answer: 1.71

How?? Can someone explain with reason / calculation?

avl998
13th Feb 2015, 05:57
Well the question says u r in a steady flight so I assume lift equals weight. That means cl which is 0.42 is also the value for my weight and den since d angle of attack increased by 3° the cl becomes 0.72 but my weight remains 0.42 so load factor is 0.72/0.42=1.71 I hope u get it.

piston2jet
13th Feb 2015, 06:09
NOTE - Load Factor in Straight & Level Flight (SnL) = 1

The Question says - Increase in Angle of Attack (AoA) of 1 degree increases CL by 0.1. Therefore change of 3 degree AoA changes CL by 0.1 X 3 = 0.3
CL in SnL = 0.42
CL on experiencing Vertical Gust = 0.42 + 0.3 = 0.72
Now Calculate the % increase in Load Factor (LF) .72/.42 = 1.71
Therefore the increment in LF from SnL is 71%
New LF =( 1 + ( 71% X 1 )) = 1.71

Hope it helps.

What should a Co-Pilot do if caption is smoking in cockpit and co-pilot is a non smoker?

grandfather
18th Feb 2015, 07:05
Dunno how a 'caption' smokes, however........ Options: 1. Say a mental thanks that you will get to the left hand seat earlier than if 'cap' had not smoked 2. Carry a clothes-line peg and use it on your nose 3. Open the window 4. Pull down the oxygen mask and breathe BUT FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, DON'T PREACH TO THE 'CAP'!! (Pls excuse if that was a serious question......just thought to lighten the mood before the all important 22nd Feb!!)

Infact it not even a conventional simulator test .

Can anyone kindly tell me if indigo Airlines hire expatriates and the contract thereof. If there's rotation and possibly what to expect if one secures an interview with them? Thank you

cyrilroy21
4th Apr 2015, 12:16
@mitble67

IndiGo does not hire expats for FO positions as the DGCA does not allow expat FO's in India due to the huge number of unemployed local pilots

Expat Captains on the other hand are in demand due to the rapid expansion

Check the websites of the various pilot hiring agencies A320 captain vacancies in India

Any idea what sequence they are following? Is it roll number-wise or merit-wise or random? Considering that the roll numbers themselves were exam center-wise, then candidates from one location seem to be going into round 3, while candidates from other locations are getting more and more frustrated since even round 2 has not been done for them!

Folks are called for the GD/PI as per the CASS sequencing. Total of 20 candidates called till now. Interviews held weekly every Tuesday. 10 candidates each day. The sequencing of the CASS exams is something CAE knows best but it is definitely not as per location or roll number.

Indigo finalizes 250 A320Neo order.

IndiGo finalizes $26.55 billion purchase of 250 new Airbus A320 Neo jets - The Economic Times (http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/indigo-finalizes-26-55-billion-purchase-of-250-new-airbus-a320-neo-jets/articleshow/48510765.cms)

Airbus to convince SpiceJet to buy A320 too.

I read somewhere that it takes 12 pilots for 100% utilization of A320 so that's 3,000 upcoming jobs for pilots. :)

Any CPL exam from 6E is unlikely as they have 450 people to process this year...that would stretch till next summer I suppose...still fingers crossed and keep studying as CAE can conduct exam anytime before to keep their stocks up.

Sorry to be off track but I really need this info...I hold a foreign PPL and since we cannot get jobs outside India, I am thinking to join IGRUA or NFTI and get campus or contract of Air India/Indigo respectively. Both the institutes said I have to start from scratch and get my Indian PPL and then CPL and go on with the course from day 1 just like everyone else. From rules perspective it seems right but from money and experience perspective I am at the loosing end. I have few options/questions, I would like to know if they are feasible?-

1) Should I study on my own from one of the Indian flying clubs and save money and try through open market with self sponsored type rating?
2) If IGRUA/NFTI then can i at least maintain my own log book so that I can start with Indian PPL afresh but don't loose my hours from old PPL? Is it even possible/legit/legal to keep foreign license details and again get a new one here? Or conversion is compulsary?
3) Would I loose all those PPL hours completely if institutes disagree to maintain my own logbook?
4) It will surely create hassles while creating computer number for theory papers. Since it asks for flying exp hours and license details till today, I am confused what to put.
5) I recently got my Indian class 2 medical done. If you get into any of these institutes what would be the ideal period to get your class 1 done so as not to waste any months of class 1 validity while preparing for theory.

Hello guys.. Need your help on this.

I am a CPL holder and planning to do the A320 type rating at either CAE Dubai or Bangalore.

1) If anyone here has done his/her TR at these centres, then can you guide me more? I am more inclined towards CAE Dubai as I would save some money compared to India. The reason I am opting for CAE is because of their tie up with Indigo, which I feel would be an added advantage.

2) Are there any other cheaper options to do the A320 TR?

3) I need a sim partner, so if anyone is planning the same then kindly drop me a pm.

Thanks in advance.

This thread has been really useful for many aspiring pilots and cadets.

I took the IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme (International Pathway) written test on 17 Jun 2017. I passed the written test and I am waiting for my CASS assessment date. For the past one week, I've been preparing for the non-judgemental interview and practicing flying using the Lock On game and FSX. Wish me luck!

Around 218 candidates applied for the test and 88 got through.

Does you medical need to be valid when you are doing your type rating?
Does it have to be valid when you are giving your type rating sim check?

Hello Sir,

I wanted to ask about the CASS test of the IndiGo Cadet Program selection process. How did you prepare for the Interview and what kind of questions are asked ? Is the psychometric test difficult ?

Hi Nigel,

Please prepare for the CASS test by using the ADAPT manual as a reference. All questions asked in the CASS test will be similar to the ones given in the ADAPT manual. Practice mental maths questions (percentage and basic math questions involving addition, subtraction are asked). Ensure that you have read the manual at least 15 times before appearing for the test.

All the best.
