A thought: have any of you on this thread, or out there and considering the use of QB questions, thought about the usefulness of your actions apart from sneaking through the system; a system that will shake you up and spit you out if you don't have it in your blood.

There is no quick way - you have it or you don't. For your long term reward I suggest you consider what you know now and what you are capable of and then decide whether you want to invest in going further. i see students who have go through without the real aptitude and they ultimately fail!

@aroumika et tu brute, means even you brutus. well its the last line caesar said before he was killed, this is from julius caeser by shakespeare. he was shocked that brutus conspired against him to get him killed so i think hes refering to that....

Ridge Runner is right..QB or no QB..you have to read all the books..no doubt abt it..and its interesting too..but takes time. Qb can only take you so far..but to actually ACE the test you need to know everything and i mean everything.

On the other hand i dont think forming a QB is deceiving the sytem..QBs exsit everywhere except in India..Hell i ve heard all you need to pass the FAA exam is the QB..Even Jaa has Qbs so if you go through a QB, you are not outsmarting the system..I see Qbs as more of a self assesment tool so that you know where you stand after your done studying a subject also they can tell you if you are on the right track.

So aditya is doing us a favour really by compiling a QB. What we must realise is that he obviously has taken some time out and put in some effort in doing so and feels cheated when everybody asks for the QB but then after the exam nobody reverts back to him.

Regarding putting up the Qb on the forum..well if you think abt it and have the patience to go thru the whole thread you will realise that the Qb is already up here just fragmanted. I could have put it up here but thot that Aditya might be offended..so the onus of putting the consolidated QB is on him.

Wrote the exam finally..but couldn't make through :sad::sad: Disappointment is taking hard on me but can't do much about it, apart from preparing again for the next attempt. And as DJ Flyboy mentioned, some 50 candidates were on roll but hardly half of 'em appeared. And out of those 25, surprisingly, only 1 managed to clear the written.

@ DJ Flyboy
no doubt that one needs to be really thorough with everything. But tell me something, you wrote the exam, do you think you wouldn't have secured above 70%?

CAE's selection criteria still seems pretty strange to me :ugh::ugh:

Guys thanks a ton for your response and the questions here , they should help a lot of people .

Just wondering if any one who got through the indigo attempt this time on any of the 5 days is a contributor in thread ?
Just curios considering such a low number of candidates have passed .

Hi, i had posted a month ago for answer keys to Oxford Book.

I got lots of help on PM for Piston Engines and I will say thank you so much.

I am still struggling for answer keys on Instrumentation Book 5 of the Oxford Series.

Please help or PM me.

Thanks

cyrilroy21

The answer key to the instrumentation book starts on page 23-51 or page 336/598

If you had downloaded the torrent you might find that page 23-52 is missing and contains answers from chapter 4 to chapter 11
In the book this page is omitted

Someone had uploaded the answer key earlier and i had made a copy of it

If anyone would like the copy of the missing page answer key pm me your email address and i will send it as a pdf file

Happy Studying :ok:

this is completely unrelated to the forum subject, but i read somewhere in 'human factors and performance' of oxford, a question something like, "a pilot can fly (be allowed to fly) with bi-focal lens?" a) true b) false, and to my surprise the answer was "b) false"
does this imply that someone with both myopia (short-sightedness) and hyperopia (far-sightedness) cannot be declared medically fit to fly? does this vary according to the country or the fitness board, does dgca allow this? also does myopia and hyperopia help cancel each other out in any way?
i have myopia of -1 diopter, both eyes, and no hyderopia at all as of now, but it's still a cause of concern, especially after aging 20 years of now and plenty of flying, you never know what might happen, is eye-surgery for someone with both defects advisable?
can someone with good knowledge and a sure answer about this please shed some light on the topic as i couldn't find anything more regarding this in the oxford book, thanks! :ok:
P.S. - i am a guy unlike what my user name might suggest (which btw is a combination of my name and my sister's name), so someone writing back to me please don't address me as "girl", it makes me bang my head to a wall quite literally! :ugh:

I have no idea about pooley but Ace is good. For technical I refer to the books given to me by SAS Aviation from where I took the classes.

@Uniform: The "CAR SERIES B PART IV" has been a recent addition to the CAE IndiGo 320 program site. It wasn't there say a couple of months ago and hence systems and jet engines was never asked on the exams. I would suggest double checking with someone who has given the exam more recently

I have this query because I'm planning to give the next test on 21st June in Delhi and I'm not a localite.

How long( duration of days) does it take them to conduct the next round (2nd, etc) after the 1st stage? Should I be staying back incase if I clear the 1st round or is it ok for me to leave delhi,for back home?
Just need to know so that I can make my arrangements accordingly during my trip to Delhi.

ANy advice on this matter would be very kind.

p.s. what is the address of the venue ,considering that it hasn't changed in the previous attempts.

Q14. FL 80, an OAT +06° C is measured. What will the temperature be at FL 130, if you consider the temperature gradient of the Standard Atmosphere?
A) -6° C
B) 0° C
C) +2° C
D) -4° C

Q15. FL 160, an OAT -22° C is measured. What will the temperature be at FL 90, if you consider the temperature gradient of the Standard Atmosphere?
A) -4° C
B) +4° C
C) 0° C
D) -8° C

can anyone please tell me how to solve these type of questions ?

aadityaslg
1st Jun 2011, 05:48
First find out what should be the temperature at FL80, in ISA conditions.
Then compare it with the actual OAT +6 C here.

Now that you have the deviation from ISA, you can find what the temperature at FL130.

Cheers!

By the way, which book are you referring to for Meteorology?

Correct me if i am wrong, cheer's

Aviator4u
1st Jun 2011, 18:52
@PP351-
you are correct my dear friend.

ISA temp lapse rate is 2 degrees dec/1000ft inc in height.
FL130-FL80=5000ft. total temp decrease=5*2=10degrees
So temp @ FL130 = 6-10 = -4 degrees.:ok:

VT-delta
2nd Jun 2011, 06:18
from fl 80 to fl 130 mean gone up by 5000 feet in isa conditions which is
2* 5 = minus 10
there by temp at fl 80 = plus 6
therefore temp at fl 130 = +6-10=-4 centigrade
u will find all these in oxford

@priyankaflyingbird

question9 - FL75 = 7500 feet minus airport elevation (1500 feet) = 6000 feet, QNH given is 1023, compare this to standard QNH (1013), 1023 minus 1013 = 10 pa, each pa of pressure equals 30 feet, so 10 pa gives 300 feet, add this to 6000 feet = 6300 feet :)

question 19 - the switch from digital to circular state happens exactly with 1000AGL is reached, as compared to option A which says below 1000, which could mean anywhere below 1000AGL (not specific enough) :)

question 26 - the sun first rises in the east and then towards the west, the sunrise at an easterly longitude of 40 degrees east is given, the sun will obviously rise 5 hours in a westerly longitude of 35 exactly 5 hours later, the difference in longitudes being 40 + 35 = 75 divided by 15 (which is the number of longitudes covered by the earth's rotation in one hour = 5 hours, hence 0243 + 5 hours = 0743 :)

question 29 - each a/c interrogates by transmitting a unique set of pulses identified by the DME ground station which transponds back each a/c accordingly, but if the pulses were not unique, it would not be able to differentiate between all the aircrafts locked into it :)

question 70 - true track is 358, minus 4 for easterly variation to give a magnetic track of 354, all magnetic tracks between 180-359 fly at an altitude of even thousands of feet :)

questions 13, 18, 21 - purely theoretical questions that i read somewhere, i could be wrong though, hope i could help :)

@flyflyfly2me
Answer for the last question is 205 nm (Close to 202) Are there any other options closer than this?

Range= 1.25 (Sq. root 900 + sq. root 18000)

other ques using formula,
TAS= CAS + (1.75% OF CAS FOR EVERY 1000 FEET)

Since, 39000 feet has 39 thousands of feet, it would be 1.75 x 39 i.e.68.25% of 200.

TAS = 200 + (68.25% of 200)
= 200 + 136.5 = 336.5 kts.

tas -132, true hdg - 25 , wind/velocity 95/35kt, find drift angle and ground speed ..? i dont know how to solve it using flight computer ..

cobracommander
6th Jun 2011, 15:41
you could key in given figures and approximate the answer to obtain the given hdg as 25deg, hence Tcrs equals 9.7deg. Therefore, drift equals- Hdg-Tcrs= 15.3 port.

and to solve the above mentioned, go to mainmenu> flight> plan leg> hdg/gs.

i'm not sure, some of your answers might be right, but i was fairly confident about mine, it's best if a few more people here write down all the answers so we can compare with theirs

@priyankaflyingbird
if you're talking about the manual flight computer, then i'm not sure either, sorry :( i'm very much a laid back, relaxed pilot that relies alot on technology, hence i use a digital flight computer (CX-2) that has all the functions on there, all i have to do is input the data and get the result, you should try it too, just make sure to carry a spare set of batteries at all times like i do ;)

Good morning guys

Feels nice to be in a community.
The question that i have is that are these questions posted would be repeated again and again, especially in this day and age when internet is available readily , i am sure somebody from the airline be keeping silent watch on this.Second point , for all those who are searching for answers they are all in oxford books not word by word but almost . third point when questions have been made public whats the use in registering for one post just for questions , and if there are any that are not posted i would request that gentleman/madam to kindly post it so that this thread is not full of just email ids.
my last point is we all are frustrated for not having a job but lets not give up.........after all JUST THINK OF THE VIEW FROM THE TOP ...

be made?
a) 190'
b) 1,378'
c) 37,600'
d) 84,100'

Range (nm) = 1.25 sq root ht. of transmitter + 1.25 sq. root ht of reciever
300 =1.25 sq root 2500 + 1.25 sq root ht of rec.
300 = 62.5 + 1.25 sq root ht of rec
300-62.5 = 1.25 sq root ht of rec
237.5 =1.25 sq root ht of rec
237.5/1.25= sq. root ht of rec ( Assume this to be X feet amsl )
190 = sq root x
sq. both sides
x= 36100 feet
Hence, the close option is C

i have on doubt regarding the respiration process at higher altitude....
as at sea level our partial pressure of oxygen is 160mm of hg but in the alveolar air partial pressure of oxygen is 103 mm of hg....
but at 10,000 feet partial pressure of oxygen is 55mm of hg..

so as we go higher and higher say above 40,000 feet we need to 100%oxygen under pressure ..............but by doing this are we maintaining partial pressure of oxygen to that of sea level partial pressure or to that of 10,000 feet partial pressure of oxygen.?

can anyone please solve this question??

cobracommander
17th Jun 2011, 13:31
rule of thumb for calculating climb or descend gradient :

ROC or ROD / Groundspeed = X %

in your example : TAS can be assumed as Groundspeed ,
hence 1000fpm/ 194 kts = 5.15 % or 3 degrees ( ANSWER!)

...can anybody please solve Cloudripper's query , strange but I've never realised it until now too!

Aviator4u
17th Jun 2011, 13:45
@cobracommander
Thnx for the solution.I understand getting 5.15% as Climb gradient but the doubt is how did you get 3 degrees?

victor.bravo
17th Jun 2011, 14:20
@Aviator4u,
Use Trigonometry mate.
Convert 194kts, into ft/min. That would be your adjacent side.
a vertical speed of 1000 ft/min would be your opposite.

tan (climb angle) = 1000/194 x 6080/60

apply tan inverse, to get the answer of 2.92 degrees, round it off to 3.

eaglewings11

TAS = 140

Anyone with ideas how to solve this?

ilsdme28
17th Jun 2011, 16:11
climb gradient = (rate of climb * 6000)/ (tas*6080)

GLIDE PATH (DEGREES) = ((GLIDE PATH (%)*60))/100

CLIMB GRAD = (1000*6000)/(194*6080) = 5.08

GP(DEG) = (5.08 * 60 )/100 = 3 DEGREES

harsh786techy

The concept here apply's of VELOCITY TRAIANGLE
1. True wind component
2. Effective wind component

In true wind component Along track and across track components co-exists and hence the formula of cos and sin gives the right ans.

However, when we talk about HWC and TWC Effective wind components come into the picture.
acc to which GS-TAS= wind component

this wind component if Neg implies a HWC and if Pos implies TWC.

Now this VALUE of the wind component can be diff for calculating HWC and TWC.

http://s1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee422/harsh_aviator/

In this picture it is shown that how effective wind components often differ.

The TAS is acting along the heading but the effect of the TAS along the track will be TAS cos drift. TAS cos of drift is less the TAS . To get the GS the true component will have to be applied to this.
Hence the difference between the true n effective wind component is TAS- TAS cos drift.
Hence Effective wind component is always less favourable unless there is no drift, ie, in flying directly UPwind and downwind.

harsh786techy

relationship between lift drag w.r.t angle of attack?

effect on landing distance when the a/c is in ground effect?

harsh786techy
18th Jun 2011, 14:37
1. If you have any options for this question i can select the right one.
Use lift equation and consider the density and true air speed. The density is decreasing, so to maintain constant IAS TAS is increased. If we put this value in the lift equation we can get the right ans from the options..

2. Simple lift curve given in almost all books wrt AoA.

3. Due to floating in ground effect, the landing distance increases.

OK So about today Exam :-
around 52 appeared 10 passed ( i am one of them :) ) Conduct of exam was pretty professional however a bit delayed for delay in delivery of question paper at the hotel anyway.. now about the questions,
I dont remember the exact questions but sure some topics which could be helpful to you. ( the questions we discussed here are indeed helpful, few repeated too)
not much of numericals.. only 6-7 of them and that too very simple. based on Altimeter questions, GC track Convergency, Departure. all very basic, Find True Altitude . no highers.
Human performance:- myopia, middle ear, stress, Acuity best at;- Fovea, up-slope runway illusion, sleep duration, hypoxia

DME range accuracy,simple CDMVT question, 1:60 rule. Application of variation:- VOR (at station), NDB ( at a/c), Diff b/w primary and secondary radar, ILS CAT minimums, DME frequency, very basic TCAS question

Regulation :- Visibility and cloud clearance criteria in various airspace, Squawk code,Light Signals.

very basic met;- height of stratosphere at mid lats, minimum visibility to declare fog conditions( lil confusing options), icing conditions,

I hope these should help. Good Luck!

will keep adding topics as i remember.

Hmm... :suspect:

3 to 4% was the previous selection figures.
Its gone upto 20% now, nice.

What will be most interesting is that, how many guys clear the 2nd (PAID) stage now.

heard a major chunk is coming from reg/met/law ......this time , that might be the reason
for higher pass percentages , but even this is low although good in a way that hard working people are getting through........

(Low -high)
Red-you are gone FAIL!!!!(0% chance of getting this)
Amber-PASS
Yellow-PASS

Something the followers of this thread will be pleased to hear:

Airbus finalizes record order from IndiGo: source (http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/06/21/us-airshow-airbus-indigo-idUSTRE75K46T20110621)

(Reuters) - Airbus has sealed a record deal worth $16 billion at list prices to sell narrow-body aircraft to Indian carrier IndiGo, an industry source with knowledge of the matter said on Tuesday.

The deal represents the biggest boost to date for the revamped A320neo and confirms an order provisionally announced in January after intense last-minute talks at the Paris Air Show.

"It's in the bag," the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The deal is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

IndiGo in January announced plans to buy 150 A320neo aircraft and 30 of the existing A320 model.

The order is a record for the number of planes involved in a single transaction.

the trend this time around shows lots of ppl passing as compared to previous pass percentages the second stage which is paid for now as aditya points out seems to be what indigo want people to be hitting for. im absolutely not questioning the people who put in the hard work and congrats to them all. but indigo are definately letting more people pass as compared to any previous batch. just a thought. dont want anybody to be jumping at me.

Try to look at it as an absolute number rather than a percentage. Just 9-10 people are passing out of 50. If they wanted to make a whole load of money, they would pass atleast 25-30 people easily, just to fail them at the second stage?

From what I hear, the passing percentage from the entrance to the LOI stage is rather high. Much higher than 50%. Anyone have any figures here? If they were after the money, they would have ensured that a low %age actually ended up with an LOI.

What I believe is that they were not getting enough people earlier (perhaps a tough paper) which is why they must have made the paper easier this time so more may pass.

The shortened cool-off period - 3 months from the older 6 months - is also indicative that they are looking for more people to fill positions.

@thearsenal
I second that. No doubt their selection process is fair,but they were losing out a lot of money by passing a lesser number for second stage. Considering the trend for last two days,I m sure around 50 would clear the writtens this time and hardly 50% of them would finally walk away with LOI as compared to almost 90% in last attempts.

What i believe is the reason more people are passing is because the reduction in cool off period to 3 months . Lot of candidates who appeared in jan/feb/march reappeared within a short time and with better preparations . Also the guys who flunked once earlier and did not wanted to give the exam due to the upfront payment of 375$ also appeared as the exam is for free and they to were relatively better prepared .

The company which makes a 6 billion dollar deal for 180 a/c why would it be interested in 20k of 30-40 odd candidates anyhow , doesn't make a lot of sense does it ?

The great circle track from A to B measures 227°T at A and 225 T at B. What is the convergency of the meridians through A and B and in which hemisphere are they?

I got the convergency part but dont know how to find out about the hemisphere

When travelling towards the westerly direction the GC bearings track turn towards the equator in northern hemisphere. Opposite happens for Easterly.

And similarly in the Southern Hemisphere, opposite of NH.

In the above question the convergency is 2 degrees and the hemisphere is Northern hemisphere as the Bearing is decreasing, which means turning towards the equator.

I seriously donot get what these CAE people are upto this time. 32 have cleared the written in 3 days and 3 days still left. The pass rate has never been so high in any of the previous attempts but previous attempts were all paid till March. This time the 2nd stage is paid and that seems to be the reason for such a high pass rate. Anyways let us see how many of these are finally handed over LOI's.

i remember when on 20th June exam session Capt Patrik said IndiGo will be having 54 Aircraft by this year end.if we go by math
they have 39 aircraft right now
54-39 makes 15 aircraft(from July to December)

so 6 months 15 aircraft
Min 10 pilot for 1 aircraft(i am sure its Way Higher than this) thats total of 150 pilots in 6 months from now

20 pilots a month makes 120
still short of 30 pilots... Damn!!!!!

and Making a brand new aircraft sit on the tarmac is bad manners:=
so they ought to induct more pilots now!!!!!!
This is what i suspect

23rd Jun 2011, 06:37
we the freshers are the ones who are suffering, actually last month 12 type rated pilots were hired by indigo:ugh:
cant the airline give chances to cpl holders without asking them a lot of money like they did back int he days
