The B757-200 variant is certified for maximum PAX capacity of 239. As part of that certification, they need to be able to evacuate the entire aircraft in 90 seconds, with 50% (i.e. 4) of the doors/slides inop. I don't think there would be a problem.

...unless all the PAX insist on opening the lockers and taking their baggage with them which seems the norm these days.

Jet2 Further Expand Summer 2016 Routes
 
A Double Delight from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays | Jet2.com. Yesterday we saw another announcement, where Jet2 revealed a brand new city route, an extra city service from another base, and a new holiday route too. Below is a base breakdown to make it easier to understand.

The New Summer Route additions are as follows: Blue = 737-800 | Red = 737-300

From Manchester, MAN:

LS941 Girona GRO, B737-800, (2x Weekly - Mon, Fri)
LS947 Naples NAP, B737-300, (2x Weekly - Tue, Fri)
LS949 Krakow KRK, B737-300, (2x Weekly - Thu, Sun)

From Edinburgh, EDI:

LS723 Naples NAP, B737-300, (1x Weekly - Fri)

From Newcastle, NCL:

LS525 Girona GRO, B737-300, (2x Weekly - Mon, Fri)

From Glasgow, GLA:

LS191 Girona GRO, B737-800, (2x Weekly - Mon, Fri)

Always good to see even further expansion, but I have noticed that LBA has had no big changes for 2016. Maybe we'll see LBA expansion come later, as it normally tends to anyway. :ok:

Good to see G-JZHD operate her first commercial flight for Jet2 today, after final flight testing yesterday. She operated today's LS197 LBA-IBZ service this morning, arriving bang on schedule. This unexpected addition to the fleet is set to be a very busy bee this summer :ok:

The B738 fleet has shown some healthy growth. In 2014 6xB738s were acquired and in 2015 another 4xB738s. Inevitably the B738s will be taking over routes from the B733s, so that new and untried destinations can be allocated to the B733s to test the popularity of the new routes with fewer seats on smaller aircraft.

Although there would appear to be plans to order new aircraft, these would not be making an appearance for at least another two years. In the meantime the present policy of buying or leasing B738s, when the price and conditions are favourable to JET2, could be expected to contiinue.

Thank you, Djerba. However, the additional route here and there by 733 is not consistent with the acquisition of further 738. One additional 738 at a base would release a 733 for many additional rotations. My original question stands, unless the 733s are also making more rotations to existing destinations.

You seem to be assuming that each and every aircraft is being flown to full capacity during the whole summer but judging from last year and particularly this year Summer 2015, there is a certain amount of leeway in the programming of the aircraft. This is evident when there is an issue with an aircraft, a replacement is either readily available from the same base or within a short space of time another aircraft is on its way from either LBA or MAN. At times aircraft have been sent to the rescue from the base at ALC. All the foregoing is to help avoid claims under the EU261 ruling. Doubtless this policy has also been reflected in the programming of Summer 2016, so that the relatively minor adjustments and additions of destinations for the Summer 2016 programme can be assimilated by the B733s and the B738s, as they will not be programmed to operate to their full capacities at their bases.

However, there have been many discussions on this forum around the need to treat the 733 sub fleet with some kindness in view of its advancing years and yet Jet2 738 s post appears to indicate higher utilisation next year. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, his post appears to be an assumption that routes have not been dropped to accommodate the new destinations. Never assume........

The post is not an assumption. Because of how similar the layout of the 737-300 is to the -800 (7 rows longer), a route originally meant to be operated by the 733 can be changed at short or long notice to a 738. For example;
using the LS197 route I mentioned earlier - from LBA-IBZ, we see that on a Saturday in July, a 737-800 is scheduled to operate the route, whereas a return on the Thursday, a 737-300 is on the route. Such alternations are relatively common from both LBA or MAN, and are designed to reflect load factors, as Djerba said. This year, on that route, there are more 738's scheduled to do it than 733's, and in the height of summer, many of the 733 allocations have been swapped do to high demand on the route by Jet2holidays. G-JZHD makes it easier to do that, and while these 737-800s will be busier, the 737-300 that it replaces won't be, and will likely be put on standby, should anything occur elsewhere in the Jet2 network. Of course, I have only mentioned a single example, but this happens relatively often at the two most flexible bases, LBA and MAN. :ok:

Earlier this morning G-GDFU diverted and squawked 7700. It was operating route LS641 from EMA-ALC, and diverted over the English Channel back to the coast, and landed at Gatwick at 07:45BST. The divert was due to a medical emergency (see here), and she is now back en route, departing at 09:15BST, bound for ALC. The return sector is delayed on departure by around 1 hour, with delay on arrival into EMA of around half an hour. This will push its next sector back, but should make up enough time for an on-time arrival. :ok:

It is a bit of a nightmare for ground staff when flights scheduled to be operated on a B738 get changed to a B733. The B738s have 18 extra legroom seats which are sold in advance. The B733s have only 8 and two if these are "singles". So lots of disgruntled PAX not receiving the standard of seat they have booked.

Seldom is the 738 swapped in favour of the 733 - its more the other way round. The only time the 733 will take the place of a 738 is always dependant on the load factor. For example, If 60 people are due to fly, and 2 of those have booked extra legroom on a 738, it might be worth swapping in such case. Most of the time, aircraft swaps are in advance, and as mentioned, its usually an increase rather than a decrease. If there is high demand from Jet2holidays on a route operating a 733, then, in advance, the likelihood is that Jet2 are going to, if possible, unlock another 41 seats, if the demand is there. :ok:

I think I have lost the will to live.

No evidence offered whatsoever as to total number of weekly flights 2016 versus 2015 to evidence whether the new destinations represent incremental rotations or substitutions.

Assertion that 733 and 738 are interchangeable, subject to load.

Discussion around aircraft squawking 7700 and likelihood of it returning to OTD.

The forum deserves something rather more professional, surely.

Posts about an aircraft, its delays etc are the things that keep posting on this sub-forum so frequent. Such posts are generally statements, as opposed to sources of discussion. As a new poster to this forum, you may not be aware of how us as regulars tend to talk more about general operations - you tend to find we often can say a lot about a little.

G-CELK returned into service yesterday afternoon, after her C-Check at DUB. As richardnei said, G-CELA is due back into service, within the next few days, should all go well, after her C-Check in DUB.

G-LSAH positioned into GLA earlier this afternoon from LBA to take the LS147 GLA-MJV flight. Unsure which 738 was unable to operate the route from GLA today, but the quick standby crews mean that the flight is due into MJV 5 mins early! :ok:

As a regular (as you are) I think you are missing the point. As much as your stout support for jet2 is admirable, generally your posts bore the living pants off most of the readers here about jet2 are fantastic for this and that. Ooh jet2 moved an aircraft to cover a service. Big deal it happens hundreds if times a day all over the country and the world. It's just operational common sense, nothing special.

EDI-NAP which was only announced over the last couple of weeks is now no longer on sale. Additional FAO rotation added on the Friday in place of NAP. Anyone know if the route been dropped already or just temporarily removed from sale?
