Depends on the reason for the cancellation.

Jet2_738 10th May 2015 12:48

How can Jet 2 cancel their 360 flight from Rome to Belfast on Thursday, inform passengers that they can't pick them up until Sunday and say that they are not entitled to any form of compensation? Surely they are liable for additional costs incurred?
Was it this Thursday? If it was, Jet2 had no other option other than cancel the LS360 flight, with the Fire at Rome. The airport has done its best (and done well) to re-open Terminal 3, which Jet2 operate from. It was not until today that it re-opened, and hence, the first day they can get you back. Unfortunately, this could be classed as an 'extraordinary circumstance', which Jet2 aren't liable to pay out for. After all, it isn't their fault that the fire started. Any compensation or additional costs incurred will come from your Travel Insurance Provider, who (if you're covered for) will pay out the agreed cancellation funds and incurred costs. :ok:

EK77WNCL 10th May 2015 22:36

What's this maintenence base rumour?

handler 11th May 2015 08:25

Under EU regulations, airlines are bound to cover the cost of care during disruption due to "extraordinary circumstances" although they do not have to pay compensation for lost flights.

Jet2_738 11th May 2015 16:12

Under EU regulations, airlines are bound to cover the cost of care during disruption
An example given over yesterday and today - The ALC-LBA flight was split between two planes;

LS272A, which departed at 23:50 last night, and,
LS272C, which departed at 12:00 today. Customers on the LS272C have been provided with overnight hotel accommodation in Alicante. :ok:

Skipness One Echo 11th May 2015 17:06

@Jet2_738, do you actuslly work for Jet2 in some capacity? Just curious....

Mr Angry from Purley 11th May 2015 19:27

We are not talking an hour or twos change in report time, we are talking wholesale changes from earlies to lates or the other way around
Budar

This can be due to regulation as much as crew shortage. If Jet 2 for example when moving to EASA FTL suggested being able to operate 4 earlies instead of the current 3 would you support this if it helped manage the roster disruption?

spottilludrop 12th May 2015 12:51

EK77 ... Heard they are buying a hangar at manchester .

VickersVicount 12th May 2015 17:04

And an equal curiosity about our vocal resident travel industry 'analyst'? Anyone could say they do anything and claim authority so I suspect not worth pursuing

GrahamK 12th May 2015 18:21

Looks ike some new routes set to be announced, Edinburgh-Kefalonia being amonsgt them

pug 12th May 2015 18:45

Graham, that may not be the only one from EDI..

BFS Dude 12th May 2015 18:52

There's also rumors that a extra aircraft is being based at BFS based with new routes and increased on other routes.

B737-800 at Edin Summer 16

And a rumour that a B737-800 will join the fleet at Edinburgh from summer 16.
With possibly up to 12 new routes(according to another forum!)

garry8g 13th May 2015 10:12

New Routes at Edinburgh 16

Seems that there has been quite a few new routes added from Edinburgh for summer 16. Also a few to Tenerife, Lanzarote & Gran Canaria from Feb 16.

Quite a bit of expansion at Edinburgh, but judging by the number of flights, think it may be two B737-800 going to based there next year!

Jet2_738 13th May 2015 19:09

Jet2 Edinburgh S16

It's about time we see some expansion at EDI - and in great quantity too! ;) The timing's perfect - Edinburgh Airport enjoys busiest April on record | Deadline News

It looks like at least 2x 737-800 are to be moved up to EDI for Summer 2016. The expansion programme is mainly to give greater variety of choice for Jet2holidays, as the routes are mainly Beach destinations. An interesting city addition of VIE is also to be offered - the only other airport LS operate the route is from MAN. Guess it makes sense linking the capital of Scotland to VIE, a route that up until now is not offered from EDI :ok:

The 12 New Routes are as Follows: Blue = 737-800 | Red = 737-300 (All Based on August 2016)

New Beach Routes Summer 2016:

LS727 Tenerife TFS, B737-800, (2x Weekly - Tue, Sat)
LS705 Lanzarote ACE, B737-800, (2x Weekly - Thu, Sun)
LS715 Gran Canaria LPA, B737-800, (1x Weekly - Mon)
LS731 Zante ZTH, B737-300, (2x Weekly - Tue, Sat)
LS719 Kefalonia EFL, B737-300, (1x Weekly - Wed)
LS713 Heraklion HER, B737-800, (2x Weekly - Mon, Fri)
LS725 Rhodes RHO, B737-800, (1x Weekly - Sat)
LS711 Dalaman DLM, B737-800, (1x Weekly - Fri)
LS709 Antalya AYT, B737-800, (1x Weekly - Thu)
LS721 Larnaca LCA, B737-800, (1x Weekly - Wed)
LS797 Paphos PFO, B737-800, (1x Weekly - Wed)

New City Route Summer 2016:

LS851 Vienna VIE, B737-300, (2x Weekly - Mon, Fri)

So at last - my once considered 'ludicrous' theory about expansion at EDI, has finally come to fruition. Well Done Jet2! :ok:

BasilFawlty 13th May 2015 19:14

Most likely also an 733W to EDI, as the 733QC's won't make it all the way to EFL and ZTH.

Plus Vienna 2 x weekly making 12

retrosgone 13th May 2015 20:14

I don't think you will find a 737-300 making it from Edinburgh to either Zante or Kefalonia! Certainly not a QC, so I expect they will be -800 routes too.

GrahamK 13th May 2015 20:48

EFL and ZTH are both showing seat maps for the 733. The 733WL should have no problem with either route

AP1995 13th May 2015 21:19

the 737-300 fly to ZTH and EFL from LBA with no problems

Jet2_738 13th May 2015 21:35

Thanks Exasperated, I'd just realised when I posted it that I missed out the VIE routes (I've added them on :ok:). Good to see them expanding, twice weekly to Vienna, almost putting EDI on par with MAN's 3x weekly service.
The updated schedule is as follows:

The 12 New Routes are as Follows: Blue = 737-800 | Red = 737-300 (All Based on August 2016)

New Beach Routes Summer 2016:

LS727 Tenerife TFS, B737-800, (2x Weekly - Tue, Sat)

New City Route Summer 2016:

LS851 Vienna VIE, B737-300, (2x Weekly - Mon, Fri)

I too would also envisage that a 733WL will be up in EDI for the ZTH and EFL routes. G-GDFO has been up at EDI already this winter for a few weeks, and her sister G-GDFM is up there now. A non-winglet 733 (not QC) could probably make the route also, but I would think that the 733WL is a better option - better fuel efficiency, greater range... makes more sense! :ok:

LiamNCL 17th May 2015 07:47

Is Newcastle a 2 or 3 738 base this year ? Only seen 2 operating out so far

Edit: GDFW positioned in from Norwich yesterday looks like a 3 base now

Jet2_738 17th May 2015 09:12

Yes, NCL is 3 738 based now - G-GDFS, G-GDFW, G-GDFY, and they're all in the air right now :ok:

Privilege Style B757 Summer 2015 Lease

Any news when the above will join the fleet? Or has the unexpected acquisition of G-JZHD meant that the B757 summer lease has been cancelled? Where is G-JZHD based?

It has not been cancelled.

GrahamK 19th May 2015 19:40

It seems that an order for 10 x A320, 5 x A321 and a further 20 options on A320/321 may have been made. Should we expect an announcement soon?

TSR2 19th May 2015 19:44

Should we expect an announcement soon?
All depends on what your definition of 'soon' is.

That would be pretty major news! Source?

fa2fi 19th May 2015 19:49

Exciting news! I wonder if they're to support expansion / replace examples of other types. Can't wait to find out where they will be based.

GrahamK 19th May 2015 19:51

GLAinsider

Check your PMs! :ok:

Like I said, they may have placed an order, but I'd prefer to see firm proof from Jet2 or Airbus before believing the source completely

chaders 19th May 2015 20:30

I hope the source is more reliable than PPJN. Someone showed me this over there and I had to chuckle.

Meanwhile Boeing 737-800 G-JZHD has been at LBA for the last week over at Multiflight.

I believe it joins at the end of the month, as my company is looking after it at MAN.

seahawks 19th May 2015 22:03

EC-ISY due at MAN tomorrow morning from MAD.

DjerbaDevil 19th May 2015 22:45

Many thanks to all for the detailed information.

Looking forward to the big announcement. Someone said, some time back, that the moment could be the Paris Air Show in mid June.
If it is to be an Airbus order then my bet is the aircraft will be based at MAN and LBA.

EK77WNCL 19th May 2015 23:48

Very interesting, not throw in a few A330's? ;)

LiamNCL 20th May 2015 05:20

It wont be before time if its true , A321 ideal replacement for the 757

Station_Calling 20th May 2015 07:36

A321...

A321 ideal replacement for the 757
Not even close!

Jet2_738 20th May 2015 07:41

A321 - 757 Not even close!

^^ Totally Agree! The only true replacement for the 757 will only ever be another 757.

paully 20th May 2015 09:05

The 757 is almost unique..The acid test of comparability would be say Gibraltar. A fully laden 757 can and for many years did land and take off there. The A321 can`t do either unless empty...Not anywhere near the same flexibility
