the problem is it has been operating since 2014 (?)
And the average load is still less than 50%, it may have shown a high growth figure but on low numbers high growth is easy to achieve, the flight is still over 2/3 empty on the majority of days ..

I will keep saying it Stobart could not run a bath regarding aviation, they should stick to what they do best road and rail logistics. Whoever thought of Manchester as a money spinner in favour of continental routes hasn't t got a clue in my humble opinion. As somebody else said Gatwick cannot sustain a Manchester service with a much larger catchment area and interlining so why on earth would Southend. If that doesn't work let us try another domestic route say Humberside or Norwich even - real money spinners there! Great pity about Caen and reduced frequency to Rennes but no surprises for me about Cologne.

Assuming you live in SEN of course. The catchment needs to be bigger than the local town to make the airport a success.

Likewise DUB is £20 cheaper from STN, and GLA is £30 cheaper from STN. asdf1234 is exactly right. For me SEN would be a no-brainer, but for those who live nearer to say Chelmsford, they would perhaps be swayed towards STN.

Not from LGW but from LTN (Debonair and European Air Express).
However, there have not been any scheduled serves at MGL for at least a decade. Not sure if they will ever be interested again, they make a living from GA, FBOs and MROs.

I almost forgot: There's also an hourly coach service that takes 47 minutes to the terminal at SEN; 49 minutes the other way to STN. The point is, SEN is perfectly 'doable' from Chelmsford, but persuading large numbers to head south-east would be some achievement.

DC3, as a Chelmsford resident I can say you're talking utter garbage and can categorically confirm that SEN is the airport of choice for Chelmsfordians. Perhaps Southend folk don't go to Chelmsford much but people from Chelmsford certainly go the other way to the seafront or theatre! But, as you note we're also only 30 mins away from STN. That means that while SEN would be the default for AMS, GVA and the Costas, if it's a choice between multiple daily flights to GLA for £25-40 or SEN's £60 minimum for eight flights a week of course STN will generally win. As STN would also win for the genuinely cost-conscious. But remember we're quite a wealthy city, and many can and do pay for the ease and convenience and this is where SEN wins. Or indeed LCY, which is also an easy journey.
DUB might well be cheaper from STN, but the SEN frequency is probably enough to get people interested. MAN might also just about be of interest to avoid driving or trekking across London.

Good to hear AirportPlanner1 Happy if what I'm saying is wide of the mark. Perhaps you young'uns see things differently.
Claiming Chelmsford is in East London is stretching things a bit, though.

Powdair flights are now bookable through Skywork Airlines, presumably they've agreed a codeshare? SEN flight numbers are showing as SX2510 and SX2511.

Excellent April figures.
With growth on CFR and GRQ at 45% and 50% respectively year on year would they seem likely routes to be dropped for Winter 17/18? Not to me they wouldn't.

I calculated the April loads on the ATR to be about 60% (42 pax), with the three routes fairly consistent.
If we're honest those figures are far from spectacular, but if pure numbers are the name of the game I honestly think slashing the existing routes for MAN is a big mistake by Stobart. If the average MAN loads exceed 30 per flight I'll eat my hat.

I see the daily figures for the routes and I'm fairly confident that RNS Propps the load factor up.
I know CFR showed good growth but good% growth on a low basic load factor still leds to a low load factor.
I'm willing to be surprised by MAN. travel from the NW to the SE (excl london) is hellish. 5+ hrs by road, similar by train and expensive by train and requiring at least 3 journeys. And a domestic link between two very large population areas. Add in potential for connections through the MAN hub (which despite proximity to London will be driven by price) and it might work.
Time will tell I guess

Regarding CFR, GRQ and RNS you're probably about right there but when the routes were originally planned the ATR42 was to be used and the 72 is really a bit too big for the markets. It's funny how load factor is usually the thing that people jump on (with some justification) but there really is a lot more to it than that.
I wouldn't argue with your MAN estimation either unfortunately.
