Norwegian?

Talking of Scandinavian carriers, Norwegian are rumoured to be trimming their LGW short haul schedule, due to lack of slots and switching these to long haul routes to grow this very successful part of their business model...

I wonder if they need a North London airport to assist with their short haul growth in London, if they are struggling to grow it at LGW?

With a report here that Luton could be handling 16 million passengers this year there is only 2 million of spare capacity left.

Yes I know Luton does not let customer experience, which is directly linked to the amount of passengers that passes through its doors from going above 18 million but the terminal, CTA, stands and taxiways can only take so much pressure. Also the little matter of just 62 check-in desks will start to restrain capacity soon for any airline that is looking to start a major operation out of Luton.

Just a thought but couldn't LOT be thinking of moving considering how popular LTN is for east European routes

CTA Multistory Car Park 2

Dig deep and thou shall find!
The MPT alignment will run from Stirling Place to the CTA passing over the existing highway and running on the curtilage of the airport airside operational area and through the existing midterm car park. Some spaces will be lost in this car park as a result of the MPT alignment.

This loss at mid-stay will be re-provided by a permanent Multi Storey car park in the central terminal area. In the interim a decked car park will also be provided that will accommodate any loss in spaces at mid-term until the Multi Storey in the Central Terminal Area is available.
There will be a loss of car parking in the Mid Term Car Park (MTCP) due to the route alignment. This loss is estimated to be in the region of 823 spaces which will be re-provided at the Mid Term Car Park via a temporary decking type solution. A permanent Multi Storey car park will be constructed in the central terminal area that will accommodate all these spaces as a long term solution. The temporary decking solution at Mid Term Car Park will be carried out under Permitted Development Rights. In summary, no spaces will be lost due to the MPT route alignment cutting through the Mid Term Car Park.

So the CTA is going to get a second multistory which I suspected when the new multistory was numbered 1 I guess it can't be built in the existing car park due to the ILS

Nothing about the drop off zone except there will be no loss of places

The implication of the above statement is that the mid term car park will move into the CTA but what will be provided is additional short term car park spaces as it will be in a prime location.

I find it hard to believe that the "temporary" decking won't be kept as a permanent solution to the constant battle to provide every more car park spaces.

The MPT will make it easier to park at the Luton Airport Parkway multi-storey car park then get to the airport.

Of course the car park at Parkway station is intended for rail users as a park & ride facility, so if it gets too busy with flyers parking there then ways of penalising non-rail users could be found.

Actually it will make it harder not easier. At the moment many people use the station car park and then hop on a shuttle bus to the terminal but this is what the airport say.

Although a multi storey car park is provided for Network Rail users, it is not envisaged that this will be used by users of the MPT due to having to buy a ticket and walk through the Network Rail station to access the MPT.
So you can only access the station if you buy a rail ticket but maybe they will sell tickets to access the MPT for anyone not arriving by train?

Sometime ago there was a plan mooted to build a multistory next to the MPT at Parkway to be used as a long term airport car park but at the moment that plan seems to have been dropped as only 12 parking spaces will be provided for staff.

Looking at the above time scales next summer sees work start on the new Central Station and cut and cover tunnel inside the CTA that will cross the duel carriageway.

I do find it remarkable that the drop off zone and duel carriageway, both of which have yet to be completed, will be dug up only a year after being completed although the dug up sections of the duel carriageway will be put back into position after the tunneling work has past the road.

Nothing has been published about the location or design of the new drop off zone or how passengers will get across the ring road but wherever it ends up it is going to be quite a trek to the terminal.

At some point the new multistory car park will be built but there are no dates for that project but with a MPT construction camp being built in the short term car park it might be the case that nothing can be done until after 2021 when they have left site.

A fact worth considering is that work on the airport upgrade started in 2015 and work inside the CTA won't now be finished until 2021 and probably 2022. That will be 7 years of construction work inside the CTA.

It will leave only the control tower and easyjet HQ as reference points, everything else will have changed.

The local ASDA super store is on fire. First time I have ever seen an airport fire engine attend a local incident.

Interesting. An announcement is presumably imminent?

Thomas Cook

So Thomas Cook really is only flying to Corfu. What changed?

Hardly seems worth it

I see the Thomas Cook Corfu flight will be operated by Avion Express utilising a A319 or A320.

For several years, Thomas Cook operated one flight weekly (on a Tuesday afternoon). Seems we're back to normal!

It is a company that has never shown any interest in Luton which is why I have never used them.

NOTAM
NO AD HOC PARKING AVAILABLE EXCEPT FOR AIRCRAFT OPERATING THROUGH GA TERMINAL
Starts 26th March, guess they have a shortage of stands. Not even sure what ad hoc parking really means?
