Dream on, but then I would have said the same about EL-Al flying out of Luton and even using 777's on some days. If it does ever happen it won't be this year and that is for sure.
Buster was also told that the multi story was going to have to get a sprinkler system installed as fire engines could not get into the car park. Guess what, no sprinkler system was installed so his info is not always accurate.

Air Malta - No
Air Serbia - No
Bulgaria Air - No
Croatia Airlines - No
TAROM - No
Heard it twice today from two sources. 5-6 return flights per weekday, reduced service at the weekend. Not too sure, my expectation would be October 2017 when they move. If it does happen, it will surprise everyone who reads this. It certainly did me! I would love to state which airline, but I am conscience of commercial confidentiality. Far more interesting than news about terminals, car parks and bus parking!
Last 'big' airline rumour that I got wrong was bmibaby. A last minute change of heart saw them launch from the parent home base H.Q.

I should add that Thomson hangar is due for closure around 2020 when their new one opens near the run up bay, likewise Monarch.
Someone needs to tell the Thomson employees this minor news!

There WERE plans / rumours to build a hangar capable of taking three B787s for Thomson down by the run up bay. These were rumours some 5-10 years ago before they took delivery of said a/c
They were as far as I am aware scrapped and I am surprised Buster has resurrected them.
Given the development of Century Park this land will be used I am sure for other developments.

Spotter fantasy I'm afraid. The European airlines with thise sorts of frequencies are Turkish and Aegean, can't see either wanting or needing to downgrade to LTN. .

The land north of the run up bay and to the north along Alpha from the run up bay drops away quite steeply. It would be an expensive exercise bringing in earth just to level the ground. If the airport ever expands onto Wigmore Park it will be via a taxiway link via Taxiway Delta as far as I can see and that would not happen in 3 years time that is for sure.

Ignore Buster's comments he is an absoulute minority, I for one love the construction/redevelopment updates and would hate to see them stop and I'm sure many others would too. At least LTNMan's comments on the airports progress always have a credible source or are realiable unlike others here.

EL-AL will be starting operations out of Luton.
Luton will put in a mass transit system costing £200 million that will allow trains to travel up a hill.
2 airlines will start New York flights out of Luton.
A national flag carrier will use Boeing 777's for scheduled services into Luton.
Luton will handle Boeing 747's.
Well the above all happened!
I could go on but over the years sometimes the improbable does become reality even though at first it is hard to believe, which is a bit like the 4 non stop trains an hour to London that has been dismissed as unworkable and that Luton could end up with a link to London that is 20 minutes faster than Stansted when the MTS is brought into service. .
I am guilty as everyone here to automatically dismiss wild rumours like I just did with Busters claims of new hangars close to the run up bay but is there any evidence that it could be possible?
Well actually there is. I mentioned that the land drops away sharply north of Alpha and it would be very expensive to bring in earth to level the ground but that is exactly what the airport has been doing in one section for the last 18 months. As can be seen in this photo taken nearly a year ago the land is being built up and continues to be built up. The original level can be seen by looking at the 10 ft fence in the foreground that is half hidden by the trees.
For new hangars to be built there would also need to be a new apron, landside road and staff car parks plus services and sewage which would be expensive to put in. Looking at the raised ground in the photo maybe the area could be used as a new parking area for long term parking of biz jets and it could come straight off alpha. If a new biz jet apron isn't built it will cause a reduction in biz jet movements as the airport will be claiming back the biz jets aprons close to the former flying club in the next couple of years. The photo was taken with a zoom lens so is bigger than it looks and would make a nice sized remote apron for non airline use.
The land is being built up for a reason and the airport has been very quiet about what that reason could be. New hangars perhaps? Seems unlikely to me but not impossible. There will be a need for soil to raise the ground for the 26 taxiway extension but not this much surely?

I said Luton would handle over one million passengers in February and I have proved correct. Ye of little faith!
Keep up the updates please LTNman personally I find them very interesting and informative.

...and only a 28 day month. This would kind of indicate that Luton will be used by at least 1 million passengers ever month now. Might explain why so many passengers are complaining about a lack of seating in departures when Luton is technically out of season.

Full Service carriers/February pax/Ovda
I have no idea if Buster's source is good one or not but if true taken from various sites, the LHR movements per day in April between 4 & 6: -
TAP - 5
Finnair - 5
Alitalia - 5
Aeroflot 4
Austrian -4
Turkish - 6
Also if SAS split their London operation under the new AOC I suppose they could be included.
The stand out airline for me is Alitalia and as they have an established operation at LCY serving the business community and I won't bother even mentioning financials and who would get the slots, so is it that much of a fanciful idea, maybe but you never know these days?
I would say TK is a no, TAP is possibility although unlikely and Finnair has been rumoured before probably due to IAG links. The rest are non-starters especially if it is 5-6 movements.
I remember a certain bear and a very imaginative post several years back suggesting an easyJet base at Southend - laughable..... oh wait a minute
February passengers Absolutely amazing and one day less than Feb 2016
Ovda
I was hoping Monarch would add BHX once the new airport is open at Eilat and could it be they are just waiting for a confirmed date to save transferring bookings. Most sites still showing late 2017 as an opening date and it seems inconceivable that flights would be dropped as I am sure the Eilat airport management will be looking for more not less.

Would make sence:
SAS complements its production with a new air operator certificate (AOC) and bases outside Scandinavia | SAS
Therefore, SAS has decided to establish a new AOC in Ireland with operational bases in London and Spain. The aim is for the new operations to be up and running from winter 2017/2018...
