Wizz
Given how extensive the Wizz network is throughout Eastern Europe now, I wondered why they have avoided the Estonian market thus far? Are there perhaps restrictions on flying to/from there? I presume not as they are an EU country, so I was wondering why there are no flights to/from Tallinn? I'd have thought this could be a good route from Luton?
Wizz have announced some frequency increases on popular routes from 30th March 2014:
Budapest 4 daily
Warsaw 3 daily
Vilnius 2 daily except Saturday
Bucharest 3 daily (from 2nd July)

Not saying Luton-Tallin won't happen but worth considering the following:
- London-Tallinn already has Easyjet + Ryanair.
- Estonia has 1.3 million people, Latvia has 2 million, while Lithuania has 3 million.
- Tallinn already has a based carrier in the form of Estonian Air and a handful of routes from Ryanair

2014 notes
Blue Air will be operating Bacau 5x per week (4 in winter) and Bucharest 6 (4).
El Al flights increase from 8pw in April to 16pw in August, excluding Israir/Sun D'or charters.
Easy Jet are increasing Reykjavik to 6 per week from March.

WIZZ INCREASES
If you take a gander at the Wizz timetable for summer 2014 there are also a number of other increases besides those already mentioned - for instance Debrecen goes daily in the peak summer months.
Quickly mention an Edelweiss A320 on a chartrer f/to Zurich yesterday evening - a one off or series? Brings back memories. OOps sorry

There was some suggestion on the old thread a while back that Pegasus might be considering a switch to Luton from Stansted; is there any more on this or is it no more than a rumour?
I presume if they are planning a switch at the end of March it would need to be announced pretty soon??

I emailed Pegasus and told them I had heard discussion of them moving from Stansted to Luton so asked them if it was true.
The reply said that there are no plans to move from Stansted and that they hoped to be able to welcome me on-board soon.
So I think we can put the Pegasus rumour to bed now.

737-8 - perhaps you could come up with your own suggestions as to which new airlines might want to fly to Luton, what routes they might fly and why you think the new routes would be profitable ? As long as you have thought through your suggestions and give a well argued rationale for your suggested routes and airlines, people will happily debate your ideas with you...

Even if they were moving they would not tell you before a public announcement. Like BMI not admitting my LHR-MME would need to be refunded as the route was gone or United taking GLA-IAD bookings for weeks after they knew it was axed. It doesn't work like that at all, emailing them is not a confirmation any more than your paid for ticket is a confirmation!! I've had that reneged on too.
Let's park the local rivalry for a bit please?

I'd absolutely agree with Skipness. Was going to book a flight with Flybe today for May 2014, and phoned their customer services to ask about certainty of flight operating.
Person who answered confirmed he was fully aware about the strategic review announcement this morning, including likely redundancies for approx 20% of all airline staff and what it meant. He mentioned he had received today an internal email about the strategic review and that, barring things like technical problems with aircraft or bad weather, all flights currently scheduled would operate as normal, that I should have complete confidence that all rescheduling was done 2 months ago, and that there would be no further dropping of routes or significant reduction in schedules between now and next summer.
Oh how I laughed at his naivety...

737-8 - not sure about Egyptair to Cairo any time soon. The country is under military Govt / coup, with a curfew each night. On 12 September, the Egyptian Govt extended their declaration of a state of emergency for another 2 months. The UK Foreign Office currently advises against all but essential travel to Cairo. Tourist numbers in Egypt right now, particularly in big cities like Cairo, are lower than a typical year. It'll take a couple of years or more for tourist traffic to Egypt to return to normal

Your other suggestions of routes are much more interesting - would agree with you on the Flybe routes.
