So Buster, when is this big announcement of this "European Carrier" coming that is switching their 5-6 times daily flights from LHR to LTN?!
The way you made it sound, it was imminent!

Well I dropped a friend off this morning and there was a EasyJet a/c sitting on the cargo apron- first time I have ever seen that.

London Luton is easyJet's fastest growing London airport
Back in 2007, easyJet was offering 7.09 million annual seats from Luton. When we compare that to the 6.96 million on offer last year, it shows that the airline’s operations from Luton are still 3.2% smaller than the total it achieved a decade ago.

7.6 Million in 2017 so the biggest ever year from easyjet. Something else is that more of the flights are to longer destinations meaning less use of the plane. Sometimes some planes can be used 4 routes in a day. Now some are only doing 2 for the whole day.

The old ground tower that Signature took over looks definitely like it is staying despite drawings showing it becoming part of Signatures apron, as it has had a shrubbery planted around it in recent days.
Still no signs of their temporary car park being removed out of the North West Corner either so maybe that is staying as well. Their temporary portocabin home is also still in the North West Corner and has been empty since before Christmas.

A planning application has gone in to convert the former Spittlesea Isolation Hospital, and the newer building next door, which was built to the same style into 32 flats. The Isolation Hospital was the former offices for the airport and is located between the 2 airport fuel farms and behind the Ibis hotel.
Not exactly a great drive into the site through the heart of the industrial airport but it could be handy for workers who want to live on top of the job.

Just a heads up everybody - Euro 2020 football competition. The semi-finals and the final will all be played at Wembley. Will probably put 2011 and 2013 Champions League finals traffic jn the shade especially if none of the four home countries make it to the finals. Anybody guess the improvements at Luton will be finished by then?

The local ASDA super store is on fire. First time I have ever seen an airport fire engine attend a local incident.

Luton Today website (08-03-2017)
16.25 hours- Wizzair- Currently flying 5 million passengers. On some months they handle more passengers than EasyJet! They are on the 'cusp' of being the largest operator at Luton?
17.10 hours- EasyJet- During 2016 EasyJet handled over 5 million passengers at Luton. This year they will fly over 6 million passengers with over 64 routes. During the next 10 years they are committed to doubling passenger levels!
Firstly I never realized Wizz was busier than U2 during some months. Secondly is U2 looking to double growth from this years level or that of 5 years ago?

The Apron mini tower not being demolished. Well I never, not another Buster prediction proved correct! As I have said before, in the bowels are things that would cost hundreds of thousands to re-locate. Maybe those making the plans, failed to open that door!

Britannia Social Club?
Buster
Yep, the submitted drawings showed its removal but it does appear indeed that you were correct. (we won't mention the multi story sprinkler system)
Century Park
Local residents are being leafleted regarding upcoming public meetings to discuss Century Park.
Looking at the map on my leaflet, the replacement public open space land is
shown as what is currently farmland to East and slightly South of the current Wigmore Park....

Interesting, no mention of expanding the airport onto Wigmore Park. Much of what was going to be Century Park is now going to be Wigmore Park and much of Wigmore Park is going to be Century Park. Worth noting that the replacement park is way below the runway and is on sloping ground.
So how will Luton grow beyond 18 million?
London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL), working in partnership with its shareholder Luton Borough Council, has announced it is to submit a planning application in the summer for 70 acres of commercial development, facilitated by a new 1.6-mile access road.

Smoke and mirrors comes to mind. The airport talks about Luton Borough Council has announced it is to submit a planning application in the summer for 70 acres of commercial development but if you look at the land grab they have taken the land that is sort of level with the existing airport including the old council tips, which will be hard to develop while leaving easy to develop land that just happens to be substantially at a different height to the airport.
There is a section on the southern edge that illustrates this quite well. I posted a photo in post 5852 of the airport building up the land. Where the airport proposes the southern edge of the commercial development, this just happens to be the airport boundary and is exactly where they are building up the airside land.
By the side of their proposed development and again on the airport boundary by the fire training ground is the new park. It just so happens that there is a steep valley on this part of the land and a mismatch in heights.
Also note that part of the long term car park is in the development zone. Could we be looking at 2 taxiway points to connect the development to the rest of the airport?

The planned new road to access Century Park clearly re-joins the existing President Way at the Percival Way roundabout (this is currently a major bottleneck!) How anyone can think routing all the extra traffic though this junction is a viable idea needs their head examined!
