Looks like Atlantic star will be using LTN this summer. First flights are the following:
Sunday 22 May
OR1502 LTN-BJL 2330-0450 (following day)
OR1502 BJL-HLE 0550-1045
Monday 23 May
OR2002 HLE-BJL 1145-1630
OR2002 BJL-LTN 1730-0040 (following day)
Sunday 5 June
OR1502 LTN-BJL 2330-0450 (following day)
OR1502 BJL-HLE 0550-1045
Monday 6 June
OR2002 HLE-BJL 1145-1630
OR2002 BJL-LTN 1730-0040 (following day)
Also further down it says"As St.Helena airport will only open during daylight hours it is necessary to land back in to the UK during night-time. This has presented the team at A-Star with a further challenge as all of the limited number of night landing slots at many UK airports had been allocated to other services prior to confirmation of the St.Helena flight schedules. A solution has been found in that the management team at London Luton Airport is very keen to support the UK to St.Helena link and has made available some night slots.
The first flights will be on the following dates, operated on a Boeing 737-800 by TUIfly (Netherlands) under their flight number, prefix OR. Flights will stop briefly in Banjul (‘BJL’), Gambia, for re-fuel and a change of flight crew, in each direction. All times are expressed in local time."

Another great catch for Luton

So in the space of 4 days it looks like Luton might be picking up its second and third long haul route from a couple of niche airports.
Looking at the Atlantic Star website it would appear to be more of a case of coming to Luton because no one else wanted the service because of the landing time in the UK.

Glazing has gone in on the apron side of Signature's new FBO while the land side is now being clad.
Work has started on the realigning of the route up to the fire station to allow the duel carriageway to go in.
The new exit route from the short term car park opened today. At the moment the old entry route remains open. As can be seen in the background work continues on the second core.
Both compounds have been opened this week as work continues on clearing the ground for the pier B link building. Site access will be from the other end of the site by Taxiway Delta.
As can be seen in the photo work still has to start on extending two of the three existing lanes of the drop off zone. The lanes in question can be seen at the bottom of the photo and will also be extended in the other direction. The drop off loop, entrance and exit can be seen at the top of the photo.

I am surprised that easyJet are not offering cheaper fares to Amsterdam to battle with Vueling as they are still very overpriced on this route. But anyway, Vueling will now be a regular occurrence at Luton with daily flights to Barcelona starting yesterday and Amsterdam today. Also Zurich will be starting in June.
Any news on those rumored Rome and Florence flights? I also hope that in the future Vueling brings routes to Luton from many of it's bases including Alicante, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Seville, Tenerife (South) and maybe even Brussels!
Also I'm really hoping that the contractors work tirelessly to get as much work as they can done before the summer rush, especially the school holidays in July, as the airport is going to experience it's busiest summer ever! I think they need to really concentrate on the CTA. Luton Airport also posted on Instagram that construction has started on a new departure gate (no.16) to increase capacity when boarding.
Don't forget about a number of routes being launched this month! Here is a list of all of the routes launching for Luton in the upcoming months:
March:
Palanga (Wizz Air) (23 March 2016)
Turin (Blue Air) (27 March 2016)
Jersey (easyJet) (27 March 2016)
Kaunas (Wizz Air) (29 March 2016)
April:
Vilnius (Ryanair) (2 April 2016)
Paris-Orly (Transavia) (22 April 2016)
Larnaca (Blue Air) (29 April 2016)
May:
St.Helena (Atlantic Star) (22 May 2016)
Dubrovnik (easyJet) (24 May 2016)
June:
Zurich (Vueling) (begins 12 June 2016)

Vueling do seem to be operating the Barcelona flights until the end of March, to cover the Easter period, with only a couple of flights in April/May for Bank Holiidays. Twice daily then commences in June as previously discussed, and this twice daily operation seems to continue for the winter period for both AMS & BCN.

The Vueling / easyJet competition will be interesting to watch, but when the schedules settle into their main summer timings they are generally complimentary.
This is what they look like on a Monday in June. There are 2 sets of flights within an hour of each other: the 07.45/08.00 departures to Amsterdam and the 19.10/19.55 arrivals from Amsterdam.

I see today's La Compagnie New York services are being operated by a 48 seat A319 owned by Omni Aviation CS-TFU. The morning arrival is running around 12 hours late.

BA don't make it easy for anyone wanting to fly to Luton but not having any idea what routes are available from their partner airlines.
While Luton appears on the airlines drop down list a passenger would have to know which route existed so they could enter a destination. By leaving it blank an option appears called "not sure where or when"
By clicking on that there is a further option called "Find out where we and our partners fly". By clicking on "view by continent" and selecting "UK" Luton does not appear on the list of UK airports.

According to information that I have just read, Gatwick slot wise is now at 100% capacity for this coming summer. The sooner the parallel taxiways and extra stands are built at Luton, the better.
This means that there is no expansion possible for easyJet, Norwegian or any of the incumbent airlines at London's second airport without purchasing a competitor or their slots. Makes Greybull's investment into Monarch look sound don't you think?

Just another French ATC strike. It seems like they can't go more than a few months without finding a new reason to strike. It just part of their culture. This one is due to last 3 days but I guess they got confused when Easter was this year.

Thank goodness for their confusion, I am flying to Paris next Friday 😄😄
