Is it pretty much a formality that Aurigny will get the licence?

3-4 times a week seems a good level of operation.

Yes. AUR will get what they want. That is the benefit of being Government owned ! Mind you, by 2017, they might not want the route. It's hardly going to be a "money spinner".

Signature update

The contractors for Signature have started to fit the roof. Also concreting of the first floor has taken place and the steel work for the undercover drive through is going up. The first photo shows the slope of the main apron very well.

A signpost has been put up on one of the roads for Signature terminal 1 and 2. Terminal 1 being their temporary portocabin village and Terminal 2 being the Landmark site which Signature bought out a few months ago.

Weekly redevelopment update

The modular drainage system continues to be installed opposite the Holiday Inn Express that will sit under, part under or by the duel carriageway. So far it is around 100m long with one end just starting to be covered over with earth.

After three months and one week of building the foundations of two of the bases for the covered walkway are now complete. The steel work started to arrive yesterday and looks like it will be erected next week.

Work on the multistory car park foundations is continuing at a fast pace by Buckingham Group Contracting. A temporary road has been laid by Whitemountain to take traffic away from the middle section of what will be the multistory car park. This new route has yet to open and still needs finishing off and a full set of fencing has still to be put in place.

Last week I mentioned that foundations had gone in for either part of a walkway or a temporary shelter as parts were on site. This week by those foundations the ground is being raised and leveled to take the dip out.

The mud mountain for the new taxiway at the 26 end continues to grow.

Both the McLaughlin & Harvey compounds that are located on the main apron and the eastern apron are still to be opened.

No work has taken place over the last 10 days on what will be the drop off area.

The latest 4 coach bays are now complete but still fenced off.

The terminal infill is still having holes dug and then lightly filled.

Thanks LTNman another great update. According to the airport twitter feed the first uprights for the bridge have been erected today https://twitter.com/LDNLutonAirport/...88265921318913

Also appears to be an Alaskan Airlines 737-700 inbound to the airport from Bangor, USA - obviously a charter but does anyone know why? Should be landing around midnight.

Good to see those first columns go in as this is the first steel work of the redevelopment to be erected. I think the other side has a bigger footprint and will be taller, as it has to reach the top of the multistory car park. I had a suspicion they would go in today but I thought I would play safe with my comments.

(Edit with added info) 100m x 20m (link between MSCP and terminal) covered walkway
50m x 15m (link between car parks) covered walkway

Pedestrian link building
3.7 The pedestrian link building will comprise three walkway cores containing lifts,
located at the MSCP and terminal concourse. Core 1 is located at the terminal
concourse, core 2 links to the MSCP and core 3 is accessed from the surface
spaces in the STCP. Each core will include lift facilities.
Component Max. height (m)

Pedestrian link – bridge structure 12.1m
Pedestrian link – Core 1 12.8m
Pedestrian link – Core 2 18.3m
Pedestrian link – Core 3 13.1m (the one that is going in today)

Optical illusion here. Is that column on the right going to the far corner or is it closer to the camera. It seems taller so I am thinking it is closer to the camera but the horizontal supports hint it is going to the corner. Tomorrow I will find out!

Christ it is getting exotic isnt it. I did wonder what Buster was talking about when he menioned Alaska. Pakistani & Russian Airbuses, Jackie Chans Private Jet, U2's tour plane.. Antonov 12s.. Albastar 737 a few minutes ago. Last time I visited the airport it was wizzair followed by easyjet followed by easyjet followed by easyjet followed by wizzair.. etc etc.

Alaskan is ferrying to IAI for freighter conversion. Luton has always had "exotic" maintenance visitors/bizjets/ferry transits, why the excitement?

Wouldn't neccesarily say excitement more just interest that an Alaskan tail is on UK soil - and it happens to be at LTN.

Not exactly excitement, Just intrigue in such variation. Sure I remember the Avianca 757 in mx for example but it does tend to be generic. I grew up going to the spectators as a kid and it was the same couple of planes repeated, Didnt change much up until recently. Heck I remember when Atlas started it caused a bit of interest because it really has been the same few airlines dominating Luton non stop for donkeys years. Shame the planes are mostly still all Airbus/Boeing but it is what it is.

Saying all that even if it is just on its way through for conversion in Israel this must be the first time Alaskan have been into LTN no?

Does anyone know why easyJet operated an extra Saturday service today and next Saturday to Munich on the A320. Schedule as followed;

LTN 06:00 - 08:50 MUC 320
MUC 09:20 - 10:20 LTN 320

I have looked on easyJet timetables and there are no other Saturday services planned after next Saturday. They also operated a second daily Grenoble flight also on the A320 today.

Also there are some heavy delays at Luton today, does anyone know why?

Yes half term it is. The airport seemed much busier from yesterday with passengers. Today, every time I looked up it was a biz jet either landing or taking off or in the queue with other Biz jets at the holding points. Quite extraordinary really even for Luton.

An Adria 319A came and went yesterday morning. Don't know why it was here but it is a taste of the summer I guess.

JQ flight number due in this afternoon. The only airline I can find that uses that code is Jetstar Airways, which is Australian, so it won't be that one.
