Vueling are really pushing the boat out here by introducing their A321 on this route, increasing capacity even more. Moving the flight to 9:00am is an advantage as you miss the 7-8am rush hour, it will also be a better experience for passengers with less crowds, except with all the building work going on at the moment it will diminish any hope of this!
I could see the LTN-BCN route becoming another LTN-CPH!

You are forgetting it arrives at 8:05 which means from around 7:40 onwards. I can't think of a worse time to arrive as passengers will be at the back of the queue from the Wizz influx.
It will add the the outbound delays as there will be more one arrival to fit in.

There is so many new services it is now hard to keep up. I think the tally now sits close to 120 destinations.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't cope with this anymore. I think I need to lay down
Wonder if this would supplement their Stansted operation or would they move it to Luton? Of course they might never operate the route as FlyBe also has a license but never used it.

Well, well well, the Aurigny news is both surprising and fantastic. Surely they won't follow the FlyBe example and apply for the route and never operate it?
Presumably Aurigny gaining a licence to operate the route is a mere formality in which case hopefully this summer for the first time in many years, we might see direct flights to GCI again. I wonder how many times a week they might operate - you'd reasonably expect Sat/Sun flights augmented by a couple of rotations during the week?

As I have mentioned a few times people here like to speculate about potential new airlines and routes yet time and time again everyone gets surprised.
Interesting why they would potentially dilute their Stansted operation unless they did indeed move it here but then they would end up with a split operation as they also operate Jersey into Stansted.

Hi Luton folk,
I follow this thread with interest as Luton seems to be experiencing an amazing run of form, the raft of announcements has been quite incredible, however as a Southend fan I'm wishing you could let us just have a little bit of the fun, you are getting a bit selfish now
Anyway I was just wondering, I have seen all the discussion of shuttle trains, monorail, trams...or whatever it may end up being built down to the train station to eliminate the bus route. However, my question is this: What is in it for the airport in making what would surely be a huge investment in this sort of infastructure project? Now I'm not silly and of course I know it would greatly enhance the airport and the customer experience, yet with the airport running close to capacity and perhaps a number of airlines just waiting to expand their offering when capacity allows do the airport really need to spend the money? How would they recoup their investment when the airport is seemly doing so well without it?
Thanks in advance

Given how well Luton is doing without a rail link to the station and pre-expansion just imagine how well it can do with a rail link and once expansion happens.
For me, the improvements to the airports infrastructure would be incomplete without the rail link. It improves the customer experience significantly and creates an even stronger case for airlines to come to the airport.
They'd be foolish not to seize the opportunity of pushing through with the rail link this time. Thankfully, it seems as though the major parties involved are committed to making it happen at last.

So do you think the airport would be unable to fill their capacity without the rail link? Don't get me wrong I'm not disagreeing with you, it's just it would take a lot of additional income to justify the expenditure when there seems to be airlines waiting to expand without it in place.
Out of interest does anyone know how many additional peak time slots will be created once this phase of expansion is complete?

chesna152 Makes valid point which I also raised a week or so ago. Luton is now sitting at 12.5 million passengers and probably between 13.5 and 14 million passengers this time next year. I doubt that it would need a dedicated rail link to hit 18 million passengers but if it did those extra 4 million passengers would not all use a train so the cost for that final push would be huge for a small return.
My thinking is that 18 million passengers is not the end game but the start of a push beyond 18 million passengers with ultimately expansion to the south of the runway and a terminal 2. There would be no other reason to spend that sort of money for so little return but then that side of the airport would also need the link.
Finally I would be quite happy to see a few services head for Southend from Luton as Luton would not even miss them now while it would make a big difference to the fortunes of that airport.

Aurigny
I can see logic in them moving from STN. While it is long-standing, they may feel that with the LCY route and forthcoming NWI service there is now too much overlap in their catchments. LTN would broaden their range further north round London and more into the Midlands. I can't see LTN being a Saturday only service.

Well I can't see them moving this summer if their plan is to move as their flights will be already selling for Stansted. Better that they wait for another year anyway otherwise their passengers will be in for a shock.

Aurigny
I know apply for license is different from a full route announcement but stange nothing said here just a few days ago Interview with Aurigny Air Services CEO, Mr. Mark Darby
