East Midland Trains
@Constructor,
Anyone can buy a ticket to London from any station used by EMT and Govia on the Thameslink line between Bedford and London!
The only passengers exempt from using EMT services are those who purchase a discounted rail ticket in conjunction with an airline booking.
@EastMids,
The Thameslink line is a commuter line whereby at least 90% of users are not airport users and thus priority should always be given to them.
The issues that the airport management should be addressing is the amount of services cancelled due to infrastructure, technical faults, drivers not available and the lack of Sunday morning services between 01.00 and 06.00hrs respectively.

I hear what everyone is saying about why increasing the presence of EM at Parkway is a bad idea and why a new rail operator would not want it but at the end of the day they will have to go with what the requirements of the franchise lays out as a minimum service.
This is no different to the overnight rail service that started last year which was part of the Thamelink franchise agreement to provide a minimum of 2 trains an hour. It would not have happened if it was down to the rail operator.
The proposal has the full support of the Council, Easyjet, the CBI, and both the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce. The Chair of the Transport Select Committee, The Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, The regional chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses and the Infrastructure Director of London First
I can remember arguments being put forward by some here with construction industry backgrounds as to why a Mass Transit System to the airport would never happen when it was first proposed by the airport yet it is happening.
These PDF's are from the airport and why the extra trains are required. Pages 16 and 27 has the timetable alterations to accommodate 4 EM trains an hour

Reading the consultancy report there is going to be a extra train per hour anyway which the airport wants to stop at Parkway. They also propose the switching of the hourly Luton train to Parkway. It also mentions that an additional stop at Parkway will add 3 minutes to the total journey time to Leicester.
The report also mentions charging a premium fare which would reduce the demand somewhat in line with what happens at other London Airports like the Gatwick Express.
I think it will happen but we will have to wait and see.

San Sebastian
Moving away from the topic of trains, does anyone know if Air Nostrum intend to revive last summer's San Sebastian route for this year ? I realise that with Vigo having been on sale for some time (and San Sebastian still not on sale), it's looking really quite unlikely that San Sebastian will return, but wondered if anyone had some authoritative information

Construction update
The new road layout has received a boost these last couple of weeks with what seems to be a large increase in the workforce.
Work has started again outside the CTA with new kerbing going in.
The tunnel has been sprayed with some sort of liquid tarmac and what looks like a waterproof membrane is being installed.
Kerbing has been installed inside the CTA from the tunnel to where the new road will connect to the existing completed exit route.
Pier B continues to have steel added.
A fence is being erected in the mid term car park to allow the 08 taxiway extension to be started soon. (note the large puddle in yet another of the airports appalling car parks)
Footing are going in for the Tesco style walkway.

Towards the end of last year the airport reported that the worst was over for passengers with regards to disruption due to reconstruction work.
Actually, to be brutally honest, it is just as bad as ever. I won't bother listing the problems but they are everywhere.
It is always an interesting read looking through the facebook reviews.

Easyjet
easyJet Agrees New Deal at London Luton Airport HQ :: Routesonline
The link was an agreement signed nearly 3 years ago now and Easyjet seem to be sticking to this deal. Luton has gone from 4 million to 6 million passengers. Also from 15 aircraft to 21. How many more will it need to base to make it 9 million as the 10 year plan goes?
