Can't see why they would want to do that as it would cause major staff disruption and most staff would not follow them.

I could see them moving out of the CTA though at some point in the future as most of their parking is off site and involves catching a bus to a non airport car park around a mile away.

Anything is possible when it comes to re-locating....

Thomson closed down its main HQ in Hamstead some years ago and relocated to Wigmore House. Various transport incentives were offered and the move was fairly painless! Many ex First Choice staff from Manchester also relocated to Luton when the carrier merged with TOM.....

Such moves often depend on the incentives being offered. Usually this will be the County who want the jobs and so they part subsidise the cost of the move and/or new offices for a period of time.

In years gone by, local govts can offer money to bring jobs to the area but not to keep them. Therefore, Bedfordshire would not be allowed to offer money to keep the jobs. I don't know if it still operates that way.

Sorry for hijacking the thread...can anyone tell me if all Car Hire at Luton is remote? Do any of the companies provide collection in the main car park area?

NWSRG - unfortunately all car hire is remote, although it's very accessible as it's only a 5 minute bus ride away which drops you about a meter away from the doors of the car hire centre

A shared car hire airport bus travels between the terminal and a car hire centre where all of the car hire companies are situated. All the car hire companies share a common car park behind the cargo terminal. Bus travel time is about 5 minutes. I am not aware of a pick up service from any other car park.

LTN - CPH - LTN

Thought I would share my experience with you all.......

Flew LTN-CPH-LTN on the 8th April with easyJet. Flights there and back extremely busy.

PARKING
Decided to use the Luton Airport Parkway car park as it is only £7.60 for the day. Plenty of spaces and only a short walk to the bus stop.

The Bus
I used to work on this service and it still bugs me that they are charging for this service, especially from the Holiday Inn, whats that all about?!?! Ticket was something like £5.60rtn. LLA, you need to be making this a free service again.

Check In & Departures
We were online check in so it was straight through security. A very painless experience saw us through within 6mins. Staff friendly and polite and all very well presented.

The departure lounge is still way too small, especially in the corner by the Boots shop. Plenty of people either stood about or laying on the floor, generally just making it difficult to move about.

The boarding process is still a free for all, and slow at that. CPH had boarding pass scanners at their gates, I watched a Norweigan 737-800 board through the gate in a matter of about 7mins, no queues. Approx 150 PAX, very impressive.......They did have the use of plenty of seating at the gate though.

Flights
No issues with the flights, good service both ways. Little late due to ATC strikes by the French on the return.

Arrival
Parked Stand 1R on arrival as the aircraft was to be hangared. A long walk to arrivals (Moving walkways LLA?) where it was again a pretty pleasing experience based on previous trips. Probably more so due to late flights and 3 CANX due to the ATC strike. There was some work going on but nothing to bother me.

It was then back on the bus to Parkway with no issues. Bus on time, plenty of seats and back home to bed after a loooong day.

All in all, a decent experience through LTN

Ryanair Gates...

I've not flown with Ryanair from the airport in a while, are they still using the boarding gates in that shed, in the far corner of the old departure lounge where the old Duty Free shop use to be?

If so, what is its plans for the future and has it had a lick of pain recent time?

I remember 2 years ago it was in a sorry state, with buckets catching water from the leaking roofs, thread bare carpets, old 1970's style seating and stained ceiling tiles.

Come to think about it, the whole of the old departure lounge wasn't much better either. Has that seen any improvements too?

The number of passengers using Luton airport in March rose by 18.6% to 840,820 over the same month last year.

Yes that is still the Ryanair area

The carpet went and was replaced by I think a mock wooden floor. At least there is seating there which is probably needed after the long walk.

Copenhagen - A race to the bottom!

Looks like the race to bottom has begun, Ryanair are offering fares to Copenhagen for £1 each way!

Going back 5-10 years ago it was not unusual for Ryanair to have these sort of sales. But they rarely offer fares this low, nowadays.

easyJet are coming out at £16 on certain days in May. While not as low, this is very low for them, you rarely see the Scottish flights going this cheap.

£2 Return Flights London Luton to Copenhagen @ Ryanair - Hot UK Deals

I still struggle to see why Copenhagen is so sought after by both airlines, with prices this low they are clearly not making a profit and they have to be stimulating demand by offering these rock bottom prices! Makes you wonder if the flights are being subsidized by someone.

Well I didn't find those prices but for a day return it is out with Ryanair and back with easyjet. I paid £9.99 for the outward leg and I think £23 for the return giving me a full day there.

Giles I think the point to be made here is that easyJet are making a stand and picking their fights carefully... You will see more of this especially against Vueling and flybe etc in important markets and places where easyJet feels it is better positioned than Ryanair.

Copenhagen is a new market to Ryanair - easyJet are established. Luton is a big base for EZY, not so for FR... EZY know Ryanair cannot just swamp Luton with extra aircraft and are protecting their territory and at the same time making sure Ryanair don't increase their footprint.

I never understood why Shannon went away nor Cork. Can anyone explain? Surely there's room for both routes from LTN & STN?

Its Ryanair playing games with the 4 airports on the west/south coast. They fly from Luton to the 2 smallest Airports (which are miles from anywhere).

Passenger Numbers Up 18.6% in March...

Good news for the airport, numbers are up 18.6% compared to March 2014.

Surging passenger demand at London Luton Airport ahead of £100 million expansion - London Luton Airport

I notice in the press release they recycle the same stuff, about the future expansion of the airport. However I have noticed they say they are increasing the capacity up from 12 million to 18 million!

When was the current terminal ever able to handle 12 million?! I am sure it had a capacity of 10 million... Have they just added an extra 2 million, to make it sound like the current facilities are not overcrowded. Which they clearly are from about 4am to 9am every morning and in the evenings from about 9pm onwards.

When being built the claimed capacity was only 5 million which helped the planning application somewhat.

As for the capacity of the existing terminal I think it will always be at least a million more than is actually using it.
