You should try driving airside at peak times trying to cross the taxiways. Its frequently possible to have to wait 15-20 mins at the crossing points due to movements at peak times (mainly pushbacks) This obviously has a knock-on for the drivers and the services affected.

Its getting close to the stage where any further expansion of stands at LTN will be negated by the limited taxiway layout and lack of dual taxiways on areas such as the East Apron (where aircraft are often delayed having to wait for another aircraft to push or arrive)

Probably why new taxiway Foxtrot which will run parallel to taxiway Delta has been bought forward to phase 2 with a start date in 2 years time. The new taxiway will have 2 connections to taxiway Delta and 1 connection to taxiway Alpha.

Even with the new Taxiway F it's still very limited. The whole airport has a very ad-hoc design. The entire area shown in your picture cannot be turned into a dual taxiway layout as there simply isn't the room unless you start taking stands away or knocking down hangers (which isn't going to happen).

Personally I also don't like the new Departure Lounge design. Too much of it is one long thin corridor of shops with very little central or open space at all. Also, passengers will have to backtrack half the shopping experience to get to the new pier/gate area. I guess though that's just a matter of opinion.

Of course you cannot blame the airport wanting to get bigger, but I can't help feel it's going to become even more unpleasant than it already is. When I look at the new designs, the videos etc. it all looks just too much infrastructure in too small a space.

The airport has a very ad-hoc design purely because of the constraints of the Airports footprint and the fact that there has never really been a long term vision or money available( until now , maybe), nor some may say a experienced operator until now.
It is very easy to criticise but LTN has never had the luxury of wide open spaces to build a purpose built terminal such has happened at STN.
They are IMHO doing the best they can with the options they have.
It will never be fantastic but with time I hope it will improve the passenger experience.
My concerns are still with the seating capacity, I am not convinced the space they will create will be used for nice open areas of seating but more and more retail.

Time will tell

Stansted is used by 20 million passengers and has 957 hectares of land.

Luton is used by 10.5 million passengers and has 245 hectares of land which is almost a quarter of the land mass of Stansted. I don't think Luton is doing too badly seeing that Stansted is the UK's second least favorite airport according to Which only scoring 1% more than Luton.

Pickford's removals together with a specialist removals company are on site today at the old Easyjet HQ. The part former spectators building is set to be demolished to make way for the new road layout in the CTA.

Also Signatures new apron is now in use and a plan for how their old FBO will be knocked down in stages has been sent to the council for approval.

Great to see another new airline opening operations at LTN. Let's hope this is just the start - there's a good few thinner regional Spanish routes that have the potential to do well.

Been like that since the 80's and no doubt won't change. As I've said once before, building site with a runway.....

That's the DAA baggage. Most airlines operating the CRJ are doing this for the rather small cabin. Nevertheless in less civilized aiports it is offloaded onto a baggage dolly and it should not be picked up from the apron...

Its called evolution rather then revolution. Remember just 245 hectares to play with so what do you expect. Also this is the first expansion since 1999.

Well over 10 million passengers seem to cope with the ´´building site´´ last year without too much trouble - funny that!
The Air Nostrumt was a CRJ-900.

The water arch for the Nostrum, costly to the fire station allegedly! I bet you don't see one of those tenders for a few weeks!
