Yes I am fully aware it's because of maintenance and has been the case for many years. Nonetheless to my knowledge LTN has seen a slight reduction from TOM over the last few years. If that's not the case I stand corrected.

As for long-haul I think STN is all round the better airport for this and was the next obvious choice for long-haul.

The extra kilometre of runway (or near enough) is a bonus but also opens up an entirely new region, the east of England, for their long-haul holidays. LTN is already diluted somewhat between LGW and BHX. Also, I dare say TCX's development of long-haul through STN might have something to do with it?
Seems to be a reasonable conclusion about the advantage of Stansted's longer runway and the fact the Stansted is not the easiest airport to get to from the Midlands. But while Luton could lose passengers to BHX it could just as easily gain passengers from the Midlands due to good rail and motorway connections.

Luton Airport Terminal Capacity

In response to gilesdavies regarding terminal capacity the following applies:

The terminal built and completed in 1985 was designed for 5 million passengers.

The new terminal built 1n 1998 but officially opened in 1999 must have been designed for 5 million passengers also? To verify:

(The new terminal at London's fourth airport increases its capacity to ten million passengers a year. As a central feature of the architect's design, we produced a vast internal column free space that maximises both capacity and visibility.

Both aesthetically and structurally, the emphasis of the building is on steel. We used four thousand tonnes of steel to construct the frame, with steelwork exposed internally and externally.

The walls are of profiled steel with a glazed wall on the landside and a strip of glazing airside. The curved aerofoil roof and airside undercroft for traffic and loading were designed in response to studies of wind and jet blast).

I do recall many years back a competition to name the new terminal but that fizzled out when the it was decided to integrate both terminals.

Some of you may recall the often 'forgotten' third terminal originally built (early 90's) for domestic passengers and was instead used and integrated into EasyLand?

To conclude, The current terminal facility at Luton was originally designed for 10 million passengers. The often quoted 12 million passenger figure is no doubt in relation to the ongoing development and tweeks carried out over the last few years to deal with busy periods at the airport.

Have the Ukrainian Govt given Atlasjet sufficient approvals to enable Atlasjet to start selling tickets yet ? If not, is there a date when this is likely to happen ?

Apparently the minister would give them all the rights they requested while the head of CAA would not (and the latter seems to be the biggest dog).

Men in hard hats spotted today going in and out of the fallow area of the old terminal. Lorries seen taking away metal fixture and fittings including old lighting and heating ducts. The company carrying out this work seems to have set up a temporary office in the former Harrods FBO by the south apron.

Is this the beginning of the redevelopment as the airport has confirmed that so called pre-work has already begun?

LSTR, the incumbent operator, says it will offer choice and value with leading and iconic brands including Chanel, Burberry, Jo Malone and Tom Ford. Such brands reflect the passenger demographics claims LLA, with 79% of travellers at the airport are ABC1s,
So there you go its official 79% of Luton's passengers are ABC1's. so what is an ABC1 passenger?

A upper middle class higher managerial, administrative or professional
B middle class intermediate managerial, administrative or professional
C1 lower middle class supervisory or clerical, junior managerial, administrative or professional.

Seems like total rubbish to me but I have just noticed that I have now become a low life E

A milestone indeed for EZY...

I worked on G-BECG/H plenty of times in their life prior to EZY!

I hope that EZY plan some suitable celebrations at LTN to mark the airlines 20th anniversary this year. I seem to recall it was summer time but can't remember exactly when the anniversary of the launch is?
