The payout would have been Euro 2.8 million or Euro 1.4 million a year for two years. Where do guys like Mannion get the ego to seek featherbedding to such a lavish level when there are people with disability and sickness living on around Euro 200 a week. At least the Dell workers will have a few months of grace with redundancy payments etc before the harder times arrive.
It seems to me all these managers & CEOs get up to is look for more and more ways to cut costs and cuts people's jobs and they can get around Euro 1.4 million for that!
Mad stuff.

Really doesnt say a lot for his own confidence in EI surviving as an independent if he is organising a little pay off for himself in the event of its failure....without even consulting the board.
Anyone ever read "what color[sic] is your parachute?".

Typical journo crap , sorry to ruin speculators but no hospitals or schools came under threat. The crew were aware that they had been hit
The incident happened before Christmas, the 124 had just started to taxy to depart KORD and a Skywest commuter aircraft pushed back and struck the winglet with its T tail.
Skywest has admitted responsibility.
Now can we get back to LGW

Aer Lingus will stay in Terminal One at Heathrow, I don't think there are any plans to move.
Aer Lingus have started their advertising for LGW, mainly print for now with a TV campaign starting at the end of the month.

Long haul announcement tomorrow?
Apparently there is to be an announcement in relation to EI's long haul services tomorrow; nothing to do with LGW (as I understand); anyone know what it might be?
Guess we'll find out soon enough ...

akerosid, you are known as one of the shrewdest observers of the commercial scene on PPrune. Do you think that EI have even one tiny fragment of likely success on their new LGW routes? For what it is worth I think they will lose a fortune.

Aer Lingus say bookings are strong for LGW but of course they're going to say that, it's a matter of whether you believe them or not. We won't know for sure until much closer to the base opening and after the first few months of operation. I've been checking the fares frequently and although not an exact measurement of loads, the seat maps on certain dates do seem to be filling up and fares are rising, especially on the Malaga route so hopefully that is an indication of strong bookings.

Gosh, Colegate, you're going a bit over the top there, but thanks!
Anyway, my feeling is that EI would not go into such a market without very deep consideration and the fears voiced here by many would have been foremost on their mind; it is a huge risk for what is still a relatively small airline and of course, a small airline heading into a global recession. So, I think they would not have taken a step like this without liaising, behind the scenes, with BA. You can see that in some of the routes they have chosen. I think we will see more. As BA pulls out of some routes, we'll see EI move into more. A 174 seat 320 will be much more efficient than a 150 seat 734 or a 110 seat 735.
I am obviously apprehensive, because it is a big risk, but I think it will be a successful one.

EI from LGW wont work because.
People who are looking for flight only holidays look at the following,
Ryanair, Easyjet, Thompson, thomas cook, and even British Airways
it will never cross the minds of LGW passengers to even look on the
Aer Lingus website they might not have even heard of them at all.
