akerosid, you are known as one of the shrewdest observers of the commercial scene on PPRuNe. Do you think that EI have even one tiny fragment of likely success on their new LGW routes? For what it is worth I think they will lose a fortune.

Gosh, Colegate, you're going a bit over the top there, but thanks!

Anyway, my feeling is that EI would not go into such a market without very deep consideration and the fears voiced here by many would have been foremost on their mind; it is a huge risk for what is still a relatively small airline and of course, a small airline heading into a global recession. So, I think they would not have taken a step like this without liaising, behind the scenes, with BA. You can see that in some of the routes they have chosen. I think we will see more. As BA pulls out of some routes, we'll see EI move into more. A 174 seat 320 will be much more efficient than a 150 seat 734 or a 110 seat 735.

I am obviously apprehensive, because it is a big risk, but I think it will be a successful one.
