Flybe @ ABZ
Guys/gals, anyone know how the Flybe routes in my neck of the woods are doing?
In particular the new ones - LGW, NCL & SOU?
Yields notwithstanding, what sort of loads are they getting in their early days operating the new services.
Also any future plans domestically & internationally for ABZ?
Thank you.

Your Flybe staff eletter claims Aberdeen to Gatwick and Southampton among the best performing routes - 98% fully booked! Sounds promising.
No other info on other routes out of there.

"Loads are doing ok i guess some would be even better if on a DH8 instead of the 145 as it is much more ecenomical to operate. "
Dont spout rubbish try looking into real facts not scuttlebutt!
From a reliable source! £15 per sector is the extra cost of a 145 which was covered in cost till 2009 by BA so not even an issue! But 145 far more popular with Pax than Q4! I think in an ideal world 195 would be a more sensible option for replacement, especially for the business routes, otherwise Lufty is gonna clean up!

I'm not gonna argue that some pax might prefer the E145 to the Q400, however the facts remain that on routes where the Q400 has replaced the E145, Flybe are getting more pax both domestic and EU. It's not like people have stopped flying Flybe when the aircraft has changed. In the greater scheme of things, for most people price is all important and then the schedule on offer. The aircraft type makes little difference.
Personally, I can't stand the E145. Small, cramped and claustrophobic in comparison with the Q400, and just as unreliable! Whilst it would be nice to see an upgrade of the routes to the E195, an immediate 60%+ increase in capacity would be commercial suicide, particularly if the UK is on the edge of a downturn. More progressive growth is required and the Q400 offers this.

Red Wings - It shows how much you paid attention to my thread and the previous one as i was talking solely on the brand new Cardiff routes, and where is lufty going to come from to compete with them? as they are over in BRS.
If there is only a £25 extra operational cost of the EM4 against the DH8 then that is £25 per flight they are loosing, plus maintenance costs, and what about the extra 29 seats that the DH8 offeres?
If the EM4 were so good then why does BE want to get rid of them so quickly?

Out of ABZ the LGW route is doing extreamly well, was up there last week flying and the afternoon flight's were averaging about 110paxs on each sector on the E195, and on the morning flight's loads were averaging 90paxs.

That would be mostly due to the spectacularly wonderful cabin crew.
The E145 can only be popular with midgets. Horrible nasty little aeroplane, with the most stupid galley arrangement making boarding and disembarking as much of a pain in the ass as having to double over in order to be able to walk down the horrible little cabin, before tripping over that stupid bloody little step attempting to get into your seat. Sooner it's gone, the better.

You must be 'aving a larf right? Ok, the 145 is small, but no aircraft goes tech more often than the flying tractor.
Maude Charlee:
Granted, it's not large but only becomes an issue if you're over 6 ft. If you have to double over you must be a least 12ft tall
mathers_wales_uk:
Flybe had their fingers burnt with the CRJ a few years ago and consequently appear terrified of small regional jets. JF has acknowledged that the 145 has a role on some long thin routes like MXP, but for simplicity they are aiming for a two fleet operation. The D8 is much more economical on the short routes with a good load, but if the load is sub-49 pax, then it is more economical to put it on the 145. The money BA paid Flybe is to cover the the extra cost of operating the 145 whilst ithe fleet is run down. Re. extra maintenance costs? The 145 is a less complicated aircraft than the D8.

You have to smile, Its obvious that some just hate the 145 due to the Bacon connection!
As for the 145 having a cramped cabin I personaly find it more comfortable and a lot quieter having positioned on all 3 types in the same day!
Look up the info think you will find it offers a reclining seat with greater seat pitch and width than even the 195! So in fact once seated is bigger
If the £15 extra operating cost is a true figure then the extra seats on the Q4 must be sold for next to nothing or on average range costs more to operate one would assume. Who knows but it will go, in the near future.
Apologies to CWL the Lufty comment was more aimed at the major German routes at BHX MAN etc where I think once all Q4, pax will flock to LH due to the jet thing, and the fact that on average Lufty is less expensive and you get a feed. I think there is room for an EJET fleet, 170 on thinner or new routes and 190 for established routes. Whilst using the dash at its optimum range at high volume.
This is an observation not a dig! so no need to get shirty cos you dont like 145's!

Simple fact is the Q400 makes money. The proof should you need it, look back to the Jersey/British European days, then the introduction of the Q4 and the rebrand to flybe. A small regional airline to a national company in less than 5 years. flybe has done rather nicely with the Q400. Love it or hate it, its been the making of the company. Can`t say Ive seen any 145 operators doing so well.

Very true. Fuel prices have helped the Q400 and BE operates on a very regional basis with little flights over two hours (AGP, FAO, PMI etc. from the southern airports which makes the Q400 even more favourable as time is not really an issue.
Which is more economical - Q400 or the new ATR72?

Hmmm
BMI Regional, Portugalia, Regional, LOT to name a few..
It appears that most of the 145's are going to Eastern Europe and the Ukraine, not sure what the connection or reason for the popularity of the 145 out there? BMI Regional also actively seeking more Embraer's.
I agree the Q4 is a great machine but the 145 also has its uses.
Out of interest does anyone know what happened to the SAS Q4 crews? Did SAS retain them or shall we expect to see them contracting?

Red Wings - i dont know who told you that BMI are actively seeking out E145's but there not. I have it from a very reliable source that BMI regional are going to be phasing them out very shortly and replace them with E195's as the E145's are just to uneconomic to run.
Also from a personal choice - i hate having to fly on the E145, again i find it too cramped and uncomfortable to sit in and the 2 plus 1 seating just does not work for me.

So some like it and some don't, perhaps it should be renamed the Marmite jet?
W.G. - Interesting, BMIR, I'd heard, had recruited for the 145 as they had anticipated buying the ex-BaCon/Flybe 145s. Flybe reneged on whatever form of deal they had, and now BMIR have a number of pilots in furlough.

Darn it!! I guess i've just come out of the closet as a Q4 lover !
Whats gone wrong this time at Flybe? Yesterday they have been using the rather ancient, un-green B732 & also a B733 but yesterdays FRA-MAN is still yet to arrive, due in 16 hours late. Risked a booking to Milan tomo on the E190, Hmmmmm wonder if & when it will operate & what with

Aircraft subs
Per acarsd BHX-MXP last night was G-THOH Thomsonfly 733 and going
by the message times it was rather late. BHX has also seen at least
one flybe cancellation the last few nights.
No doubt not helped by the BHX-STR calling a mayday (reported on another site) the other night and then diverting to to EMA. Apparently it did not want to land back at BHX due crosswind (flap problem?).

I believe that the sub's are due to certain check's that Bombardier have insisted be carried out on all Dash 8 Q400's worldwide, and all aircraft have to be inspected within a 5 day period. Hence the number of subcharterd aircraft that have suddenly appeared due to Flybe having to pull 4-6 aircraft a day off the line in order to carry out the Bombardier inspections.
