Now the CAA stats are out it's possible to see just how well BHX did compared with other airports, particularly its nearest rivals.
Birmingham down 6.8%
Luton down 23.8%
East Midlands down 24.7%
Bristol down 25.9%
Manchester down 16.8%
Interestingly, BHX carried 40,253 more passengers than Luton last month.
Perhaps Paul Kehoe will reconsider his redundancy targets in the light of these results?

Runway extensions, car parks, piers, Air Traffic Control Towers and buffet lunches in Diamond House are expensive you know!!!

Not sure where you are coming from as you are not comparing like for like.
Bristol had two based FR units in 2008 & 2009 and their loss was due to
easyjet cuts (yes the odd route did cross with FR) and no Excel based unit in 2009.
BHX had no FR based units in Feb 2008 and four in 2009 carrying around
70000 extra pax (estimate). It would be fair to say that BMI Baby might
not have reduced their based units without the FR base but this was probably only about 20000 worth of pax.
Love or hate ryanair bhx would have been about another 50000 down
in February.
Whether they destroy the other operators at bhx is another argument
probaby for another day but the simple fact is without them this winter bhx would have shown some awful pax figures.

Indeed a very good performance from BHX but it is nearly all down to the fact we now have Ryanair, take their pax out it would be dire !
Surely the demise of CVT has helped pax numbers at BHX, though?

February route analysis
The pax figures are sourced from the CAA but the average pax and
load factor are just my best esimates. I have only included a selection.
BILLUND/2932/122 PAX/65%
BIARRITZ/1558/97 PAX/51%
PARIS CDG/23694/52 PAX/61%
PERPIGNAN/1605/100 PAX/53%
DUSSELDORF/9733/29 PAX/43%
FRANKFURT/17364/55 PAX/55%
HAHN/2849/89 PAX/47%
MUNICH/10068/63 PAX/68%
WEEZE/4988/104 PAX/55%
SHANNON/7715/124 PAX/66%
WATERFORD/1247/31 PAX/47%
BOLOGNA/1753/110 PAX/58%
MILAN MXP/2174/24 PAX/25%
PISA/2533/106 PAX/56%
FARO/5774/160 PAX/75%
OPORTO/1946/139 PAX/74%
ALICANTE/142 PAX/74%
GIRONA/13207/124 PAX/66%
MALAGA/15647/135 PAX/80%
MURCIA/3622/151 PAX/80%
PALMA/3550/111 PAX/63%
REUS/3568/112 PAX/59%
ARRECIFE/2557/179 PAX/84%
TENERIFE/9193/170 PAX/80%
GOTHENBERG/930/23 PAX/63%
STOCKHOLM NYO/4157/130/69%
OSLO TORP/2877/120 PAX/63%
GENEVA/13655/102 PAX/68%
ZURICH/10439/66 PAX/66%
ISTANBUL/54 PAX
PRAGUE/8607/108 PAX/67%
KAUNAS/2112/132 PAX/70%
BYDGOSZCZ/2016/144 PAX/76%
GDANSK/2918/133 PAX/70%
KATOWICE/2987/136 PAX/72%
KRAKOW/3144/131 PAX/69%

DUBAI/34534/307 PAX/82%
ISLAMABAD/6960/290 PAX/78%
NEWARK/6770/121 PAX/69%.
Malaga & Alicante probably did gain from Coventry's lack of flights
but there are also other reasons to be hopeful and some to be
worried about.
Emirates was the star performer, not only up with one day less
but MAN, NCL & GLA to Dubai were down a couple of thousand down.
Naturally this was helped by the upgrade on the EK37 to the 77W for
a few flights.
This should continue in March with the three class low density
(360 odd seats) 773's now operating on EK37.
Milan was poor despite no real direct competition, Polish routes
are still getting bums on seats and leisure routes generally holding
up no doubt due to the school holidays.
Brussels was dire, over 5000 down, Edinburgh was about 10000
down but load factor was at 66% reflecting the pruning of some
services by flybe and Baby. Glasgow was also well down but load
factor above mid 60's.

FYI, The last time I checked, (was at the HQ in Luton on 14/3/09), EZY, I asked about expansion plans have no intention or interest in setting up a base at BHX, nor are they looking to add any W patterns or routes from other bases.
The next exansion they are targeting is Italy and long thin routes from already established bases, (Eg Tel Aviv from LGW etc)

Will the airport be offering a refund on the £270 annual staff car parking pass?
Why don't they move it instead to the multi story next to the job centre / terminal and extend the open medium / long stay into the current staff car park?
Or how about they give the staff part of the new massive car park being built next to the Airport HQ ?
Nope instead, even though the staff use it everyday and probably joe public use it twice a year - we will stick the staff as far away as possible charge them 270 quid a pass and make the poor buggers walk as far away as possible in the depths of winter through a poorly lit long stay car park with hardly no cctv. All part of cost saving - well don't you think you should pass the £100,000's of savings onto the airport suppliers ?
Rant over but hey ho we were only 4% down in Feb...........

well, activly speaking means nothing. MAN are activly speaking to an 'asian airline' at the moment, it doesnt mean anything will come of it.
If EZY HQ in luton say nothing is going to happen at BHX, then to me that says nothing is going to happen.
Also, its all very well saying that they are misleading me, but what about yourself, I suppose your source is concrete?
