American to Chicago

Heard the same rumour, but with a summer start date. Thought that it would have been announced by now though.

AA ORD/BMI Baby

Barry

It has been on a.net for the last few days and it mentioned crew bidding
for BHX and GLA for late autumn.

Certainly an unusual time to start and it is certainly marginal on distance.

It is shorter than other 757 routes: -

Contintentals Newark - Tegal 3970 miles approx
Delta's CDG - PIT 3900 miles approx
BHX-ORD is about 3860 (various sites used for these figures)

The CO TXL is changing (if not already) to a 762 in winter due to the number of tech stops.

However I have to agree, major major coup it it happens.

More good news Baby are increasing Med school holiday flights this summer by chopping Prague from 12/7 - 11/9, the odd EDI, GLA &
BFS and by working the aircraft even more.

As predicted loads on TK seemed to have improved with the half-term
holiday although another 319 popped in the other day.

AA must be desperate to get back on the route if they want to use a 75. More often than not the CO takes full tanks to EWR so I can see a fair few tech stops on the way. Also there won't be much available cargo space, something that was always a good earner on the old 23/24. Would be nice to have them back though, quite fancy a return trip to SOC in Dallas

TK

Just thought this might be of interest. Have just been to the Annual Travel and Tourism exhibition here in Muscat. TK had a big stand, not exactly pride of place but there nonetheless was a poster in advertising..........BHX! It was the usual side view of Selfridges but very impressive to see that TK is seemingly serious about promotion. Am not sure that MCT is a target connection to/from BHX but every little helps I guess

Also interesting was another poster listing new destinations for '09, as well as Washington, Sao Paulo and Gothenburg there was Glasgow, with a start date of August? There have been no rumours on the GLA thread about this but it was up there in black and white for all to see, will be interesting to see what happens!

Half-term upgrades

I think today saw a first, in as much as both Emirates services were/are
77W's. The upgrades were due to loads not aircraft issues and there are
a few more 77W's to come on EK37/8 in the next week and a bit.

Other upgrades today include two out of the three Swiss flights with
320's instead of FK100's and the Lufthansa Munich service has been
319's since yesterday instead of RJ85's.

Again these are all load related and not maintenance issues with the
usual aircraft.

Tomorrow should see the last scheduled 145 on the Stuttgart with
Q400's taking over from Monday although with flybe this might not
be the case.

Also noticed today that the last BHX flybe 145 flight is now showing
as 16/4/09 BE417 from Belfast City. I am sure it was 28/03/09 but I
could be wrong. Manchester still showing 145 flights to 28/5/09.

Project Blue

Project Blue is a working title for Paul Kehoe's critical review of ALL BIA departments. This review will also include outsourced ones too, ISS, ICTS, RFFS???

Personnel have been expecting a cull in light of recent cryptic correspondence from Mr Kehoe. However, it looks at though it is not just jobs that could go, but also a stream lining of pensions, terms and conditions etc, to remaining staff.

No one is immune to this "painful" process it seems.

Project Blue
I was resisting posting on the subject, but, as you have raised it.....
That is what he was brought in to do. It's only to be expected. We will prepare for the worst and wait and see.
I doubt he would have mentioned the things he has unless he already knew he was going to change them.
He has already demonstrated that what he says and what he does are not the same thing. Great starting point.
It is amazing to watch the back stabbing that has already started.
As the airport is top heavy on the management side.....I think a lot of them are vulnerable.
I doubt anyone will come out of it unscathed. The company might end up better for the shareholders. However, I know it will be a worse place to work. What remaining goodwill there is will probably go out of the window as well. It will become just like all the other large airports with no soul.
Tin hats and fighting gloves on......Lets defend what we can eh????

One other point.....What a stupid name..'Project Blue'.

What a great pity but a sign of the times I suppose, nothing ever stays the same

I used to work for BIA (2001-2004), best bunch of people I have ever had the pleasure to work with and certainly the most fun I have had in a job day to day - good luck to you all, I hope you come out with your pride and spirit intact - as its thats which helps make BHX such a great airport to fly from

The "F Word"

As an observation, I suggest that his use of this, and probably other words simply draws attention to a basic lack of education and understanding of the English language. He probably also thinks (wrongly) that it commands respect and forces people do as he wants.

Sadly it is symptomatic of the quality and aggressive nature of British management today, and he will discover that it will simply result in all his best staff upping sticks and leaving the company.

Air Sylet

Apparently starting in bhx on the 04th april operating a Gadair 757 LTN-BHX-VIE-ATQ once a week

Be interesting to see if this comes to fruition as they have already been a non-starter in Man.

Acording to the 'Birmingham Post' Paul Kehoe on giving evidence to a House of Commons inquiry hinted that Birmingham might consider scrapping one of its terminals.

Terminal

Surely to replace it with a larger one as the current 2 struggle to cope with demand in the summer months. At bhx currently they are expanding t1 with a new international pier and in t2 a lot of expansion is taking place, with more 738 stands being created as well as a rumoured extension out across stand 8l/8r/9 to extend the lounge and offer more facilitys.

Not to mention Terminal 3 Plans on the Master Plan.....Or could that be the one he is referring to?....It's easy to scrap something not yet built....

The article cetainly reads as if Mr Kehoe is engaged in backtracking. It also stated that he said it would not be possible to meet the target of 18 million passengers per year by 2017 that he had been set on his appointment and that this target would be ambitious for 2020. He also expected growth to return 2011/2012 presumably from where it had fallen to in the meantime.
