Union full time officers are meeting tomorrow (Friday) to discuss the Staff Bus and lack of consultation......
As any regard for staff that did exist has been well and truly dumped I suspect that nothing will change.
The plan seems to be to give everyone the illusion that they are being kept in the loop while doing things behind their backs...Remember the briefings? 'Project Blue is a blank piece of paper. Nothing has been decided yet'. That remind you? Well while he was spouting that, they were organising the termination of the staff bus.....Says a lot about the new style of running things....Draw your own conclusions.

Since a strongly worded letter from the TU's there has been a slight back pedal. The Longstay car park busses (1&2) will route through the Staff carpark.....People power can work....Not perfect but better than they proposed and what they should have thought of originally at the very least.

Consultation
We were told that Project Blue would have a period of analysis with "no stone unturned" about cost cutting followed by consultation period regarding outcomes. This problem would have been discussed and at the very least this solution raised through proper consultation. Maybe Kehoe will now learn that this consultation is an important part of change.

Monarch
BOSSES of a low cost airline which launches a new route linking Birmingham airport with Cyprus have been stunned by the sale of seats ahead of the first aircraft taking to the skies tomorrow.
Almost half of the 22,000 seats allocated for the entire summer programme on the new twice-weekly Monarch route to Larnaca have been sold.
Monarch boss Tim Jeans said “We have really been shocked by the overwhelming demand. The first aircraft doesn’t take off until tomorrow but we have already sold 10,500 seats.
“Normally we would expect take at least a year to build up a route to that kind of level of sales.
“We operate 42 different routes from airports around the country and at the moment this is the number one best seller of any of them even before the first passenger has set foot on an aircraft.
“This typifies the excellent results we have had from the Birmingham market since we started operating from the region. Monarch will be the largest British operated service to Cyprus this summer.”
Mr Jeans said the demand from Birmingham travellers meant he would seriously consider extending the twice-weekly service to four or five times per week for next summer.

Not good, but these things never are. The waiting for the "Axe to Fall" as we have heard so many managers saying recently - is long and I for one wish they would get on with whatever they are going to get on with so once we know where we stand we can make some kind of a response.

Monarch Larnaca
The good Larnaca bookings obviously have come too late for them
to risk it through the winter. I am surprised it does not operate at
least to after the Christmas period, never thought it would be seasonal.
The rest of the Monarch 2009/10 winter schedule is not too bad with
Alicante cut from 5 a week to 3, no doubt it has suffered at the hands
of Ryanair but at least Malaga stays at 5.
Faro is 5 a week until early January and drops to 4 for a short while
and Tenerife is virtually daily except for one or two Wednesdays.
The big gain is Arrecife which goes from two to three a week with
two departures on a Thursday. Hopefully one is just not just taking
seats on the IT aircraft.
Suspended are MJV, LEI, PMI & MAH, which is the same as
winter 2008/9.

These are worrying times for BHX staff at the moment with the rumoured redundancy programme still under wraps.
With the runway extension 'Matters for 106 agreement' still presumably under discussion, there is one particular agenda item, as detailed in the list posted by Call 100, which was surely added by BHX management somewhat tongue in cheek:
'The development of a Strategy for Future Employment and Training including arrangements to assist with employment for those out of work in Birmingham, Solihull and the West Midlands.'
Hmm.

Air Berlin new route
Air Berlin starting twice weekley service to Hanover starting 04th April
in addition to their Padaborn service.
Surely a Berlin service is long overdue?

We'll wait with baited breath for the next attack. It's bound to come out of the blue, Just like the staff bus. So much for consultation.

Air Berlin
The HAJ service is a SCHEDULED route starting 4th April which is in addition to the adhoc mil flights.
Using A319's I believe.

Excellent news!
Slight mystery though that the news report said the application had been approved with conditions.
Hopefully those conditions merely refer to those in the 106 Agreement already addressed by BHX.
Looks as if the promise to spend £10,000 a year for 20 years on tree planting clinched it.
Is that it now or does the application have to go to the Government for confirmation?

The contract has been won again by BIA. For the next 3 years services will be operated by Air Berlin with 3 weekly services - x2 weekly to Hanover and weekly to Paderborn

I believe there is then an issue with airspace. It has to be moved 400 meters. Does not sound a lot but will need to be resolved.
However, great news for the airport. Great news for the region.
