I am not too sure about the Bergamo - have a feeling it may be the rounding off of the schools mid term break holiday?? Am happy to be proven wrong though - it would be good if the Bergamo / Milan destination was to continue but Cork would hardly be that lucky!

What about the German destination? Frankfurt by Germanwings? It seems they have just the one direct route to Frankfurt from Pristina. If so, it must be a W from somewhere else? Suppose the same idea might work for Cork?

Might be Cologne too, of course? It would have some weekend appeal and should work at getting in some German tourists too which would be welcome.

Let us hope for the best.

Mind you, overall, a BA flight from Heathrow to Cork would get in more passengers.

The Milan flight is just for the tail end of the mid-term. Interesting what'll happen at Cork if Ryanair do another deal with Shannon. Could break the place if there's not a plan B in place.

The Ryanair winter schedule is not comming into full swing until the 7th. They wanted to make the most out of the mid term break before they switched over.

Bad news for WAT.

I'd always thought that the WAT-London routes were doing OK.

I'd imagine there would be limited upside for Cork. Some passengers won't fly. Some will fly from Dublin. Some will use the ferry from Rosslare. So, the boost for London services from Cork will be very limited.

It's also possible that another operator will step in.

It will leave some spare capacity in the RE fleet though that could add passengers in Cork.

The fear of the outside world continues today at Fort Knox Tower.

Those of you in th know will all ready be familiar with the birdie migratory patterns at Cork in the late summer and early autumn weeks when some of our feathered friends give some of our aeroplanes and crews a bit of a fright and if you are around long enough you will very likely see the hard working boys 'n girls of the Airport Police spinning up and down the runway in their smart looking 4x4s letting off the equivalent of some buckshot to frighten off the little birdies.

Honourable work and full marks to all involved in getting the job done.

So, what do I see today from the road on my journey abeam Fort Knox Tower? Go on, take a guess!

New baby saplings planted along the road side new perimeter of the Fort Knox facility!

It would only happen in Cork!

Lovely, f*ckin' lovely!

The unfortunate news of the termination of London services from Waterford will increase passenger traffic from Cork next year. Would be great to see a carrier restoring the London Luton route from Cork given that Gatwick is just served by one airline now.

CCR, thats only if those services are not replaced by another carrier. The Waterford CEO has told local radio that they are talking to five different operators. Strong chance that WAT/LTN will resume next year, may have to wait until start of summer schedule though.

Even if the route isn't restarted, I can't see it making a huge difference to Cork. Maybe 20 passengers a day. Or 2-3 per flight.

A lot of people will choose not to travel without the direct flight. Some will take the ferry. Some will fly WAT-BHX. Some will fly from Dublin. That's the vast bulk of the passengers accounted for already.

Only really for passengers who live in and around places like Dungarvan, Kilmacthomas and Stradbally will Cork be the default alternative.

Really hope Waterford can find a replacement carrier but with the loss of Aer Arann and PTC and the new motorway to Dublin, it`s more likely that Waterford may follow the path of Sligo and Galway airports.
There definitely is an opportunity for a restoration of the Cork-London Luton service with cutbacks on other services to London.
Ryanair first operated the London Luton route back in the 1980`s but Aer Lingus Regional and Easyjet would be the other obvious contenders.

Can't see Easyjet touching it unless they want another fares war with Ryanair. Aer Arann could operate the route but would be competing with jet services to LHR, STN and LGW.

Surprising that Ryanair don't operate it as they operate from Kerry to both Luton and Stansted.

Jet2 flight LS917 from Manchester to Tenerife diverted to Cork an hour ago with pax emergency onboard, aircraft suffered multiple bird strikes on approach but continued for a safe landing. 1 passenger has been transported to hospital, the aircraft is currently being inspected for damage. Crew are now out of hours so around 210 passengers stranded at Cork until Jet2 can find a replacement crew and aircraft. That's all I know so far.

Would appear Wizz Air could be about to drop Warsaw and Wroclaw from early Feb. The prices are over double the average fares and other W6 rotues have normal prices. When airlines rise up prices so much it means they will be canclled.

Aer Lingus to Frankfurt perhaps, codeshared with LH, seeing as to how cozy EI have been getting to Star of late?

If that is true, what does it mean, a regional partner/subsiduary of a Star carrier?

LH to FRA/DUS/MUC
TP to LIS
LX to ZRH
SK to CPH

Let's hope that it's not just a once a week flight like up in NOC but one that would offer meaningful connections out and in.

That description really makes me think GermanWings, seeing that they will connect you and do offer Star Alliance Frequent Flyer points, but aren't formally a part of Star.

In theory that means one of Cologne-Bonn, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dortmund or Hanover, although the announcement that Lufthansa flights outside Frankfurt and Munich are to be transferred to them complicates that a bit and opens the possibility of Hamburg and Dusseldorf. My money would still be on Cologne-Bonn with Dusseldorf and Stuttgart as outside possibilities.
