If Brussells stays at 4 per week and Rome is dropped there is only room for two flights a week. I'd say FRA would need to be at 3 a week to be viable.

Aer Lingus 2013
Just to update the free slot is available on Wednesdays & Sundays. Its a mid-afternoon slot so a flight to Izmir leaving after 2pm would be back around midnight.

Not convinced that it will be Turkey and if it was I could only see a weekly flight May-Sep. Not thats its revelent they have reduced it slightly from DUB next summer if I'm correct.
I would consider Dubrovnik or Ibiza. I would say Dubrovnik is higly possible.

It could quite easily be extra capacity on an existing route. Leave at 2pm and you could comfortably fit in return flights to both Amsterdam and Paris, two routes with good yields.

An interesting week. The DAA announce yet another competitor on the New York to Dublin service in the guise of the American Airlines 757 beginning next June. It will then be no less than four different airlines on the New York to Dublin route.

Region losing out over lack of flights, says survey | Irish Examiner
Some comments:
Should Cork try to increase CDG to 2 daily as well as other hubs
Not many want a link to the US a little suprised how low Belfast is though,
Some comments:
* 41% are "dissatisfied" with existing routes and their frequency, believing this is damaging the local economy.
* Among the most popular wish list routes are the return of the axed Dublin flights (23%), New York (17%), Frankfurt (15%), Boston (11%) and Belfast (5%).

Speculation growing about a new route from Cork by a non Irish airline being launched for 2013.

It would be about time that the gang up at Cork came up with something, that is for sure. If late last Sunday morning was anything to go by it would have reminded some of an out of commission mortuary!
There was such a sense of despair about the place it was tangibly depressing. Now, unlike before, I am not getting hung up on the summer extras at snn with the US Air from Philadelphia and the Delta from Chicago but at least it shows that the gang at snn have their eye still on the ball and are plugging away for which they must be given some credit.
It is time for the Cork gang to 5h!t or get off the pot.
Cork Airport needs a blinking result!

I agree that Cork needs a result. All we've had for the last 4 years is Aerlingus and Ryanair putting on more sun flights at the expense of the Spanish and Portugeese Charter airlines and Wizzair serving the needs of Polish and Lithuanian immigrants, another no brainer.
It also worries me to read that the lack of pre-customs clearance at Cork has now replaced the Shannon Stopover as the excuse for not delivering the transatlantic service that has been talked up by successive management teams since the mid 1990's. If it's beyond reach then say so and concentrate on the U.K and Europe.
Having said all that it seems that the new route if it materialises and my source is correct will be to Germany.

To play the guessing game, GermanWings to Cologne/Bonn?
Regarding the pre-clearance issue, maybe they should look at Toronto rather than New York or Boston. That advantage disappears. Plus, there's pre-clearance in Toronto, so it makes a decent hub for onward travel.

Germanwings would be a good fit. Possibly Air Berlin? Hopefully, this will encourage other airlines to try Cork. Badly need some more variety/competition.
