A pity that the LHR 5th rotation will be stopped from the end of Sep, primarily due to operational reasons and it has been noted there was a slight dip in yields when the 5th service commenced - So its more likely EI will evaluate placing the A321 back on the 4 daily services.
Just wanted to share some stats re: the FR, KRK/WMI services which have both since been axed.
In Feb 14 - FR had a total of 3,024 seats for sale on the route in both directions.
They sold 2,750 seats - Meaning the LF for the ORK-KRK-ORK service was 91%, and it was high yielding (know that from what FR was telling the CAA at meetings). Will be waiting eagerly to see the CSO stats for Apr/May in SNN to compare - But from my own sources its doing much worse than what it was making for FR at ORK.
In Feb 14 - FR had a total of 4,536 seats on sale for the ORK-WMI-ORK route (both directions).
They sold 3,239 seats - The LF was 71% and it was high yielding as explained above.
A pity both routes were axed to make a point and not because of macroeconomics.

Jack you mentioned recently that the airport were in serious discussions with 4 airlines .Any further updates?I assume its too late now for 2014 and any expansion will only occur next year?

Hoping for the best though, that something positive can be rewarded before the Summer's over!
If I were a gambling man I'd bet on Turkish, the unmentionable one and Emirates being the main reason the 5th LHR rotation is going. I wonder what EI will do with the slots

Warm weather will no doubt have an effect on bucket and spade routes yields if it continues much longer.

Cork getting two extra return flights to Edinburgh from Stobart Air for the Ryder Cup. I'm sure this will generate a few feel good press releases in a Summer that's likely to see Cork's traffic fall further. What ever happened to the growth that was predicted for 2014?

Or crew out of hours from atc strike and cheaper to do a crew change in cork rather than in bcn and have a/c stuck there for god knows how long. Oh yes the old faulty guage in the flightdeck. Ran out of yellow inop labels?

Cork Airport Authority to be wound up.
It seems that the Cork Airport Authority the Shadow company that has no assets and no power is to be formally wound up by the Government and the airport fully absorbed into the DAA not that it ever left it in the first place. Does anyone know how much this quango has cost since it was set up in 2004?

Recently I've had a chance to vary from my usual diet of LHR and AMS and got to fly on the Ryanair routes to Pisa and Bergamo.
While it's not enough to draw conclusions, a few observations
- Both services had good loads ( > 90%) and judging by the prices I had to pay for my, admittedly late, bookings, yields aren't too shabby
- Almost everyone on the Pisa service is Irish. There were maybe 6 or 7 Italians. It is also very much a holiday service, with people going to Tuscany, the Ligurian Riviera or even joining cruise ships in Livorno or La Spezia.
- The Bergamo service has a much more varied clientele. About 30% of those onboard seemed to be Italian. There are also some business travelers to add to the vacationers.
I can see why Pisa is restricted to running for a few months in the summer, but I could see Bergamo having the legs to run into the should season and maybe take on a slightly longer run.
Unfortunately, Bergamo is operated by a Cork-based aircraft, while Parma is operated from the Ryanair base there, so the route that might have the demand to extend is the one that could have problems with aircraft allocation.

Bergamo is a useful airport for accessing the north of Italy, for Milan it's arguably as good as Malpensa, certainly not a lot worse. For accessing the lakes and places such as Venice it is undoubtedly better situated, assuming you are hiring a car. There seems to be a lot if big multi-nationals in the area, my last flight from BGY had a dozen or so businessmen with JCB logos on their jackets and bags.
Sadly, there is no news from the airport in recent times for new routes or increased frequencies. Looks like the status quo will continue for now.

The main problem that I could see in Bergamo was that it was chronically overcrowded, at least pre-security. I'd say the check-in area is similar in size to Cork (albeit hard to tell as there are a number of walls), but the airport takes three times as many passengers.
After security, it was quite well-sized with a surprisingly good range of shops.

Cork Departures
Just wondering why there seems to be quite a bit of outbound traffic for Portugal/Spain using runway 35 and turning right out over Douglas/Carrigaline and not left out over Ballinhassig in the last few days. Also I see EI882 for Malaga (EI-DEE) was delayed 5hrs this morning, no replacement aircraft available I take it?
