Those passengers were UK publicans on a day trip to the Beamish & Crawford brewery which was brewing Fosters at the time. They would have had no bagage apart from they consumed at the Brewery.

EI NY confirmed...
Well first confirmed intention from EI I've seen anyway....
Aer Lingus To Bolster U.S. Network With Additional A330-200
Aer Lingus is evaluating its future fleet requirements, but no order decision is imminent. The airline is interested in using the Airbus A321NEO on transatlantic routes. With its lower capacity, the aircraft could enable the carrier to operate year-round services from Cork, Shannon and Belfast, Ireland, to New York, says Mueller.

If long-haul was still on the cards from Belfast, would staying put at Aldergrove not have made more sense?

Since EI haven't placed and order for any aircraft although one will happen soon as they need to replace some short haul fleet, it will be at least 6-10 years before the 321NEO comes to EI if ordered and the aviation industry will have changed a lot so I would take this with a pinch of salt as I don't see it happening TBH SNN year round yes Cork maybe but Belfast can't see it regardless of what airport although BFS only option. I'm sure BFS management would welcome them back with open arms if they were to offer a JFK service!! With these A350's coming (think they should sell there order to another carrier or replace order there will be major capacity to fill ex Dublin and BFS and DUB services will not both be viable IMO.
A321NEO not starting until 2015 so it will be close to 2020 before EI get them if ordered as they will be back of a long list of carriers who have ordered NEO aircraft.

Thanks for posting this news Sawtooth. It`s really positive news for Cork and Belfast. Mueller is proving to be a really excellent CEO for EI.
To think that next summer Dublin will have more routes to North America than Gatwick and that Shannon will have at least 5 carriers on routes to North America with possibly a 6th with Transaero to Miami, its really good to see Mueller and EI management are thinking about Cork and Belfast in the medium term at least.
BFS101, EI would have to do long haul from BFS. No chance out of BHD as that runway is even shorter than Cork`s main runway!

Today's development may well have put a stop to the Frankfurt option. Looks like the bucket and spade strategy has won out although the timetable is not very clear at the moment.

In some ways Aer Lingus's evaluation of their assets at Cork is quite coldly and clinically done. They are maximising their utility during the summer bucket and spade season with the daily Faro and the daily Malaga & throwing in the snn Faro rotation as well partly using a Cork asset. So, it looks like Cork - Rome is gone for a Burton - is the five years up on the subsidised charges on the route? (I cant remember what happened a few days ago!) I recently heard a few figures on the past summer's Cork - Rome load factors which were very strong so it seems a market for Rome remains but it is hard to see Ryanair flying in to take up the slack if it is indeed quits, as it seems, on the route from Aer Lingus.
My hunch is Aer Lingus will be slow to give Frankfurt a whirl from Cork. Why would they try a city which will have little weekend break attraction and may be depending on a fair measure of non code sharing connecting traffic with Lufthansa when Aer Lingus has all ready very strong hub saturation from Cork to Heathrow, Amsterdam and to a lesser extent Paris and even Brussels.
Another hunch of mine (for what it is worth, probably nothing!) is that the flyer about a new BA service from Heathrow is now a non-runner though I would still love to be proved wrong.
It seems to be mainly negative, does it not! Let us hope Cork's fortunes may improve somewhat yet for next summer - I guess they can all ways go cap in hand to Ryanair if they are really desperate not that they would get much of a reception there, would they, but maybe they might!?
Cork will just have to sit tight for another five to ten years until the Aer Lingus A321Neo comes along and blasts off to New York!

I wouldn't be nearly as pessimistic. First, many of the orders are by lessors who'll be looking to place aircraft anyway; and second, the manufacturers are well practised in shuffling order books to accommodate more urgent requirements. Given the irrational exuberance with which the NEO order book swelled after its launch, I'd hazard a guess that a few of those carriers might actually not object to having their deliveries pushed out a little. If I had to guess, I'd say 2017.

BRU reduced to Mon and Fri
ALC moves to Thur and Sun
PMI moves to Wed and Sun
It will be updated tomorrow to reflect the full changes. Some days/prices are show for BRU but its only 2 weekly bookable.
Would say they think that 9 is way to many and EI will not be able to use them all.

Brussels visible as 2 weekly in the booking system now. So much for it being such a success, no wonder Aer Lingus aren't in a hurry to start Frankfurt!

Are we talking about the same thing? 9 A321NEOs? The last comment from EI I saw (back in Feb) suggested "up to 5" which seems a lot more realistic.

Two thoughts on the EI changes
- Are they trying to pressurise Ryanair's yields on some of their most profitable routes? It would be an interesting tactic
- With 31 flights a week to Faro from various Irish airports, could a summertime base there make sense in future years?.

In publicising the increase in frequency from Cork to Faro and Barcelona both Aerlingus and Cork Airport said nothing about the demise of Cork Rome and the reduction on Cork Brussells.

With EI now adding SNN to there schedule to FAO, I see they are leaving linking with the outbound ORK flight on fridays and going FAO-SNN-FAO with the same aircraft returning to ORK for 23:50.
However nothing is showing how they intend on getting that aircraft to FAO on Mondays and Wednesdays to carry out those journeys. Will they possibly deploy the outbound ORK aircraft also on Mondays and Wednesdays?
Also 840 a base in Faro would not be a bad idea as it is a very busy destination and it could be an interesting one to try!!
