Yes, that about sums it up all right, it has always struck me that airfield in the midwest could be referred to as Ireland's special needs airport.

Tut tut tut Tom, my safest option for travel these days is the new sea-plane service in Cobh

Kavs8, Shannon having less transatlantic services makes things better for Cork how exactly? Considering Cork has no transatlantic services the Shannon pax cant exactly flock there as an alternative
It might boost Cork to Heathrow and Amsterdam (and also perhaps Dublin) a little as people connect to the States. The majority of Cork originating passengers bound for the states fly via either Heathrow or Dublin anyway (if you're flying anywhere besides New York or Boston it makes little sense to trek all the way to Shannon just to have to connect in the States when you can fly from Cork and connect to a direct flight at Heathrow or Dublin) but the closure of the Shannon routes might boost this a bit.

Oh, to be in The Quays in Cobh and to have a tray of pints to put away as an RAF flying boat arrives at Queenstown!

I'd say CO and DL will be the main winners when EI suspend SNN JFK. If either of them started a 757 operation from ORK they would put even further pressure on Aerlingus.

I genuinely don't know at this time. I assume the 2nd route is to be operated by Aerlingus as indicated on Pprune previously.

good news but il be suprised if this is true. We know that EI are to open a new route next summer but , if your ''sources'' are correct that a carrier at least must have been specified. We will just have to see what happens i suppose....

I hope the ''new route'' is not SSH as we know this is opening in May 2010. Also Jamie2k9 PPrune is a rumour forum not a statistics forum their on the CAA website to read, not for you to supply to us. Be carefull of copyright infringement.
