go back about 12 years. iom-bhd was flybe operated. i acknowledge that in its more recent incarnation it was operated by loganair for flybe.
similaraly, iom-lcy was operated by flybe about 12 years ago.
so, if they are gonig to cry wolf [as suggsted by a previous poster], its a pity. but i recall that they finished off euromanx and also a stated above dropped routes in the past.

lfc84 it was 8 years ago, and British European (shortly to become FlyBe) transferred IOM/LCY and IOM/BHD to EMX....
The demise of EMX was partly due to head to head competition - it was they who took on BA Connect on IOM/MCR. The main reason EMXy failed (per the liquidator IIRC) was due to never actually making a profit....
But yes, FlyBe did take EMX on on IOM/LPL. But they, FlyBe, have thus far (other than the Loganair franchise) not dropped a major IOM route.

prior to that. when they were jersey european. pre 2000

edit: correction - got a route wrong. its was IOM-BHD, IOM-BLK, IOM-BRS were previously operated by jersey european. which as you say became british european and more latterly flybe. as you can see it was 1998.
so i would say they have dropped routes.

Whilst on the surface it would appear good if these rumours were true, I really hope they are not. By and large we have a good network of reliable services at the moment with multiple frequencies with pretty good fares. With a bit of flexibility most of my flights are at the base fares.
Of course we would all like give away fares but in the real world they never last for long and to me anyway the lead in fares are fair value
.
There seems a bit of anti Flybe sentiment here
, they may have quickened Euromanx's demise but a flawed business plan and expenditure exceeding income seems to me to have had more to do with it.

i dont have an issue with flybe and my posts were just trying to provide some balance to the statement:
Whilst I have nothing against U2, they do have the habit of trying out a route (presumably after some research) and quickly dropping it if it doesn't work

OK as lfc84 wants to go back to 1998, why not consider BA's dreadful treatment of the IoM routes? In their various guises they've pulled out more times than Casanova over the past 50 years or so....

so to sum it up. no one is better or any worse than anyone else. [except perhaps manx2 (current) and manx airlines (gone)]
i havent got an axe to grind with any organisation. just added my response to add some balance that there was an automatic expectation that EZY would try the route and drop it.

There has been some interesting reading on this thread! Just a few thoughts on this:
Easyjet at IOM would be seen by the Manx public as a good thing. At the end of the day all they will care about to begin with is how cheap they can get their seats for, they won't care about if it is sustainable or in the interests of IOM.
What they will do is whine and complain once the competition is killed off OR Easyjet pull out OR the prices go up.
Over the years IOM - LPL seems to have been sustainable with a lead fare of between £25 and £30. Below cost seats at the moment are, in my opinion not in the interest of IOM. The market is still very fragile, while it would boost pax figures it would do nothing to sustain the frequency and choice of routes that we enjoy at the moment. Yes people will disagree with this view but that is how I see it.
Maybe back in 2007 IOM could have supported but right now the airport needs to support the 4 carriers that have seen it through the last 18months.
Of course this will not happen due to the open-skies policy or rather the half-closed half-open policy.
These are just a few thoughts but we shall have to wait and see, I hear we should know by the end of the week if this will happen.

Some good comments there FS01although I doubt even in 2007 it would have been viable.
If this rumour does turn out to be correct one has to hope that there has been no financial incentive from "Reynoldsway" to bring them here. The question will certainly be asked of them.

We (the IoM) are a very small market. Too many seats on offer and all of us will ultimately be losers. I for one have no appetite to go back to the very expensive ticket prices of the '90s because one new aspirent airline bu**ers up the revenue of the incumbents. But if the incumbents start to take the pi** I'll be first in line to cheer on a newcomer. Catch 22, if you like.

Lpl IOM for easyjet,would be a nice little gap filler between flights on EU routes. It would also prob be shortest flight on the network after belfast bfs Glasgow . 1hour could have the plane over and back (maybe 1 hr 20 on the schedule?) a bit like LPL JER which would be much slacker on demand and slot long sector. I would agree that below cost seats not good for a small Market like IOM, however Flybe will be well fit for the competition what with high frequency etc.

So is this £9.99 inclusive of all taxes and charges?. Flybe's from is £0.99 plus the raft of mysterious add ons airlines get away with.
Apart from destroying the profit on the route for the incumbent and giving the ever so modest AD something to crow about, what else does a once a day service do, if all this is true.
