errr yeah ok.... .

I have kept quiet on the issue of disruption that has gone on over the bank holiday weekend. With all the arguing over who shouldn't of done what, I will leave that to the people with stripes.... However what I think was a big problem and hasn't been raised was the issue of involvement of IOM airport senior management!

Was there a single member of the management team to be found around the terminal on the 31st August? Not that I could see. The handling agents and airline staff were left to deal with the problems while not a single person from the management were around to speak to an annoyed and very irate group of passengers.

The decline is bad enough when pax figures are falling through the floor each month (given - 5% could be a lot worse), but the way it was handled by the airport is only further ruining the reputation of air travel off the rock! Just my personal and in no way represents any companies opinions, but would be glad to hear some thoughts.

Sounds like you need those Cat3 B1900's again.

Hmmm, MDA 410ft, effective required vis 2.5k +

Interesting if they do drag it in at MDA as the MAPt is the RWY Locator. Nice and stable there then if the runway is spotted late.

Hope the wind stays away from the south.

Sorry to get off topic, but I have been unable to find this information elsewhere:

Am I correct that the railways do not operate between early November and early April? I am considering a trip to the rock for next March but don't want to end up with no trains operating.

Thanks guys for your help. Sorry to have hijacked the thread (I had of course checked the timetables ewtc., but none them says when services will resume in 2010).

Back on topic, while searching for information, I have come across the updated airport website - a rather depressing visit with the list of airlines serving IOM now down to four. I was wondering if Flybe in the future will have more than 75% of all passengers at IOM - in July they had already more than two-thirds (flybe+Loganair). Looking at the figures, Aer Arann, Blue Islands and Manx2 will struggle to have more than 15.000 or so pax in a typical summer month.

Why is is it that only having 4 airlines serving Fraggle is "depressing". It's not exactly the hugest market and the routes need to be able to pay their way. If there are more airlines, noone makes any money doing the routes as they're all trying to cut each other's throats. Witness the way things went a year or so after BA bought Manx, and then once they dispensed with the ATPs.

Massive undercutting isn't normally associated with an overall improvement in service standards or safety.

Better that the route structure is stable than crowded.

I am not saying that on every route there should be two airlines, but if only two airlines with aircraft larger than 19 seats are around that show some sort of commitment (although that is somewhat doubtful as far as Aer Arann is concerned) to serving the island, base aircraft etc., IOM may soon face a flybe monopoly. Point of the matter is that the airlines that have been lost have not all withdrawn from routes on which there was competition (e.g. NCL) and at least the most important market for IOM ideally should have another carrier. Becoming wholly dependend on Flybe can be rather risky - because unlike in the past, with the disappearance of almost all independent regional airlines in the UK, there is no other UK airline around that could step in should Flybe ever loose interest or go under (like flybe did when BA withdrew).

IOM - PMI Summer '10

A bit of good news for IOM.

Flybe are operating a direct service to Majorca for 8 weeks during summer 2010. The flights are in connection with travel agent freedom travel and it sounds like there has been a lot of interest from IOM residents. The flights are during TT fortnight and July/Aug period Saturdays only.

Hopefully with some people showing a bit of initiative where IOM is concerned it may just help the dropping pax figures on the rock. Given its not the answer to all the problems but is good to see another option for local travellers. Also a rumour of another sun destination direct to follow.

Assuming it will be operated on an E195? would it be too much of a stretch on a dash??

Best of luck and looking forward to S10.

The Q400 would get to the Balearics in about 3 hrs from IOM, it's only 300 miles further than GVA and that's typically 2 hours. A bit of load would probably have to be sacrificed for fuel most likely. Selling a max of 68 seats would work.

I hope it's done on the dash .

Who on Earth would want to visit Fraggle Rock if they live in the Balearics?

The route originates at IOM and is aimed at people living on the rock not the other way round. I doubt the route will even be for sale from PMI. Also it looks likely to be on a the 195 Beast. The A/C most probably operating in from another UK base.

It would make more sense to use the E195 as has a higher capacity and less chance of being effected by restrictions on how many seats can be sold. A package is available for 7 nights inclding return flights and hotel from £469.... more details available around 17th October. From what I have heard a lot of interest already on this one
