it ll be great for the island...................for 3 months. then the steam bucket will squeel and put up prices for everyone and BE will chop capacity at LPL and remove the new 4th aircraft
EZY will carry 50,ooo new pax on LPL. 25,000 from BE and 25000 from the boat. Result = no change just more unsertainty. Last man out turn out the lights

Remember the NW is also served by MAN, BLK and Heysham...
U2 won't raise prices above that of the ferry - they will have free use of IOM, extremely short flight and most likely high LF.

Will fares ever be as high as BE's?
I doubt it...
I doubt it...
Anyway, a couple of years ago EZY did a similar thing to the much prettier, more sophisticated JER. They started a daily LTN service, hoping to steal some of the LON market away from BA/BE (who both serve LGW). EZY undercut prices significantly, but the route never made any money and it was pulled ?6? months later. I suspect part of the failure was due to LTN being less attractive than LGW for most islanders, but also the LON market was probably saturated. A lot of people are set in their ways and are unwilling to change: BA have the big business contracts for example.
Its a similar situation with IOM. If BE and NM hold enough ground to keep EZY at bay, they won't tolerate a loss making route for long and will disappear.
Hopefully NM has built itself a nice little niche to BLK. BE offer a more frequent service and so has that advantage over EZY. But, lets face it, BE are probably making a killing out of you guys... taking their fares down a few quid won't do them much harm at all.

Unfortunately IOM pax will always go where the lowest fares are, it's been proven over time!
If £9.99 is the lead fare then I am sure they will attract a lot of attention and initially bookings. However if as rumoured the rotation is at lunchtime then it's not much use for onwards travel if you want to get to a final destination before that evening.
Also don't overlook the Patient transfer contract the BE hold. A large number of LPL pax are patient transfers and so will stay with BE. Given. yes the market is more complicated than that but it is a major factor.
This will all end in U2 quietly pulling the route at the end of summer.

It's been confirmed budget airline easyJet is considering operating a new route between the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.
Airport Director Ann Reynolds says the company has made an approach with a view to setting up a route from Ronaldsway to a UK airport.
It's not yet clear which destination is being considered.

Minister for Transport says to IOM Newspaper...........................
Transport Minister David Anderson said it was common knowledge the easyJet representatives had been in the Island recently.
and there was me thinking Reynoldsway was trying to hush it up so FlyBe & Manx2 dont chuck their toys out the pram

This will have knock on effects for BE at MAN as well. Why would people pay more to fly to MAN than LPL with the same company?
Obviously there would be quite a number - connecting, residential etc. but there would be more who could use either airport and may decide solely on price.

Well that explains why flybe have dropped their prices IOM-LPL/MAN. Saw that as well fella in the Indie. £29.55 down to £21.99 in a week. Good old competition and payback time for flybyeeeeeeeeee.
