There is no requirement for 5 a/c in the early morning rotations or the evening, just this anomaly which you've identifed mid-morning, and that only arises on Tu. and Th. when IOM-BRS-JER and return operates.

On these two days, IOM-LTN also comes straight back and doesn't do LTN-JER, so I think there is a scheduling error here and either LTN goes later on a Tu and Th, using an a/c from the second MAN or LPL, or the BRS actually goes later, at around 12.00.

Either way, I can't that they will deploy a fifth a/c in IOM just to meet this Tu. and Th. schedule, and I can't see anywhere that a W pattern would appear from, and be in the IOM by 9.30-ish.

At weekends there is more slack in the whole schedule with fewer LGW, LPL and MAN flights, although PMI will take and a/c out for most of the day between early and late rotations.

My guess would be that the BRS is actually going to be an afternoon departure from IOM. It might be a case of seeing how loads add up and changing the schedule between now and then.

Manx Reg/Flight Support

Are we "merging" or who is taking over who???? It's nice that most of the airport knows but none of the staff knows what's going on, an airport cleaner told me today all about what was happening???? Who the runs the show who is in charge of ramp she told me everything - me I only work here why do I need to know??

Plane diverted after smoke alert

A plane had to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport after a warning light alerted the captain to smoke in the cockpit. The Bombardier Q400 Flybe aircraft, flight BE 278, was en route from London's Gatwick Airport to the Isle of Man when it was diverted on Wednesday.
The 45 passengers escaped via the emergency chutes after the landing and stayed overnight in Manchester.

Interesting times at IOM with ground handling. It seems come 2010 we will have one handling agent for all airlines...

Merry Christmas to all, hope the "take over "merger" goes well" but we all know it won't . All the best for the New Year and good luck to you all

If FlyBe cannot fill a Q400 on IOM-LPL there is no way an operator with a larger aircraft will step in. The numbers from IOM-UK are fixed be it boat or plane and with the hassle of security 'one bag' etc even less people can be bothered flying.

easy?? Believe it when I see it!! At the moment IOM should be happy to still have the 4 carriers that it does. Passenger figures have dropped through the floor this year and it is surprising more routes/carriers have not been lost

Manx Ramper the merger might appear questionable to some but is only going to work if everyone involved gives it a chance and keeps an open mind. New year new start.

Through it all however it is questionable what incentives the airport has been offering to airlines and handling agents. The state of landing fees and associated charges on the rock leave a lot to be desired. The rumours I hear are they are some of the highest away from LHR! Is this true??

This is my last post, so all the best to everyone and good luck for the New Year. PMI and CDG should add a bit of variety to things and hopefully they will be a success. It appears NQY will not be returning for S10.

Have to agree with FS01 ..... easy on the rock??? will never happen!!

As for merger / takeover of handling agents .... isnt really going to be great for any new Airlines never mind easy .... monopoly to charge extortionate handling fees .... be interesting who survives in management as surely there will be heads cut ... staff on different contracts with massive pay scale differences mmmmm going to be nasty .... wouldnt fancy being a skipper for manx2 either ... flybe are sure to get preference ...
Good luck to all about to go through the nightmare ahead ... some good guys on both sides

It is an inescapable fact that when the financial crisis currently engulfing the IoM really starts to hit home, and the CM realises that there can be no happy tomorrow without the size and breadth of government services being significantly reined in, there are going to be lots of changes to things we take forgranted now.

What odds we might see IoM Airport sold off, or at least day to day operations outsourced.............

It would be interesting to see what a bit of imagination, a reduced cost base and some commercially minded know-how might bring to the party.

IOM Spotter

Less Brandy in your Mince Pies next Christmas

There is NO Way Easy Jet would start LPL/IOM

The routes too short they could never get enough revenue and there is too much capacity on the route

unless of course they are starting Easy Tram IOM to Laxey from Douglas

Sorry u should have posted this April 1

Have a Nice New EASY Year

(PS Keep taking the pills)

Earlier, globetrotter79 reported:

FlyBe are holding slots in Palma for the IOM-PMI-IOM charters, BE9701/BE9702 operating on the DH8
Very interesting, that would be surely be BE's longest routing on the Q400 by far. Great circle mapper shows it is 922nm, which is further than SOU-FAO! (883nm)

Info for the ex-Manx Guys...

From the "Where are they now" forum:

Beavis (Red) Skelton.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red died 0400 29th December 2009 after a long and painful fight with cancer.

Formerly Fleet Air Arm, later with Dan-Air on 111s, then Palmair Flightline on the 146 after which he flew with Manx and absorbed into BA subsidiary and retired off the BarbieJet, as far as I can recall.

Retired to home in Wilmslow to enjoy his golfing, sadly not for long enough.

Why does the grim reaper take the good guys early?

He was a good spud, great to fly with and tolerant of the less experienced and a great party animal.

Red will be sorely missed.

I'm really saddened to hear that news. 'Red' was of the 'old school' but in the best sense; extremely tolerant (he put up with me!), very knowledgeable with a wealth of experience to pass on and an excellent training captain.

BE did some ad-hoc pax flights on the Q400 BHX-ATH over Christmas to take families out to crews working out there. They also move Q400s between the UK and Greece direct. The longest non-stop sector is EXT-ATH at 1394nm Great Circle although the actual routeing will have been slightly longer.

Thanks for that, proves what a capable aircraft the Dash is. I guess in my previous post I was referring to regular sched/charter flights on the aircraft.

Haven't flown in the aircraft that much as yet, but was quite impressed recently that a "mere" turboprop could convey me from SOU to GLA in under 70 minutes
