....and it would have done it burning about 1100kgs of fuel too, as opposed to close to 2800kgs for something like a 737 that would have done the flight in only 7 or 8 minutes quicker overall.
That's why Flybe invested in the Uber Dash.

But its a fair point, especially with the loads that BE carry around the place. The Dash really has come through for them after a slightly iffy start with plenty of tech probs.
But I still think that sitting in a Dash all the way to ATH would be slightly more painful than a 737 to be honest...

Blue Islands JER-IOM
I can confirm the diversion as I was on the flight. I don't know what the problem was however the right engine was shut down about 35 mins into flight and diverted to EXT. I must complement the flight crew who kept the passengers informed and arranged for the pax to have refreshments. Not a lot to see or do at EXT however we were collected 5 hours later on a Manx2 Do228 that Blue Islands had chartered to undertake the IOM-JER schedule and called at EXT on return for the stranded pax.
Considering the problem Blue Islands gave excellent customer service.

easyJet?
There are growing rumours swirling round Ronaldsway about a possible double daily A319 on LPL IOM from easyJet. But then again life on the rock wouldn't be the same without rumours.....

This story started a few days ago when an EZY employee suggested a LPL-IOM-LGW-IOM-LPL 'W' rotation was being considered with an aircraft that is surplus to the EZY LPL base's summer programme.
If it does ever happen, it would be interesting to see if there is enough business on these routes to make a 156 seat A319 viable. After all, Flybe don't often fill a 78 seat Q400 to LPL or LGW from the IOM.

All very well if it does happen, but the fares won't be much cheaper and I can see it only lasting a short while.
Twice daily to Liverpool would mean a lot of short loss making sectors, and it won't take long for them to realise it's not economical and a spare hull at LPL would be better sat on the ground.
You just know what will be cancelled if one of the other a/c go tech there don't you?

I'm with Dash and Thump on this one. Whilst many may salivate over the prospect of even lower fares ( looking only to the lead in offer, not the average which is usually way higher) I remember the damage uneconomic competition can do in the longer term.
Short term gain (for us locals) always leads to long term pain.
Whilst I have nothing against U2, they do have the habit of trying out a route (presumably after some research) and quickly dropping it if it doesn't work. Look at LTN/JER for example. And they don't care about the damage they leave behind.
I really hope that they haven't been given financial incentives by the Ronaldsway management to encourage them.
