Easyjet Coming to the Island

Friday, February 12th 2010 00:00

Easyjet Coming to the Island

After much speculation it's been confirmed that Easyjet are bringing their budget airline to the Isle of Man.

The airline famed for their low costs have told 3FM that they will be confirming the details of the new route midday on Tuesday.

As yet both Easyjet and Ronaldsway are declining to comment on what the route will be speculation among the online forums is rife.

Each Easyjet Airbus can carry upto 180 passengers.

It's anticipated that when it does announce it's new route a price war will begin with existing Island based airlines wanting to compete.

lets hope BE gets the competition it deserves and has a sour taste of its own medicine. I think the 319 can carry only 156 pax with 4 c/crew and 150 with 3. Lets see what unravels outta this. It'll prob be seasonal anyway

Good news for the airport and passengers alike now with more choice. Though from late june it goes down to 4 x weekly and non of the rumoured £9.99 fares... yet anyway.

It looks like their cheapest prices just now are £22.99 o/w. It'll be interesting to see if they'll go lower or not.

steam packet is about 500,000 per year per annum. not 25,000.

Four a week - not even a flight on a Saturday or Sunday? Flybe must be laughing - it's like being attacked by a wet haddock. The easyJet operation doesn't stand a hope on that basis.

Presumably they're not targeting business travellers. All I know is that whenever I have looked to book a flight with Flybe they have been very expensive, which is not usually the case with Easyjet.

Maybe Flybe like wet haddock, in this case it will be for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Looking at the two airlines, Flybe is £1 more than easyJet after bags, insurance, debit/credit card fees....that isn't going to make anyone jump ship.

The timely drop in prices may of come in handy, but 4x Weekday and 3x Weekend, compared to 6x Weekly....no contest at this stage.

Flybe agree..... Advert link removed

Checking some dates in the EZY booking engine shows £33.99 each way during TT race week with site saying prices starting from £22.99 so filling up already.

Not necessarily... perhaps the base fare is higher during TT week as they'd expect higher demand.

Youre right ifc84. What i meant is that the Packet will lose 25,000 pax, not all their pax. At £20 a nob thats a £500 000 a year. Ouch:

There certainly wasn't much demand last TT...early departures for holiday families won't be helped much by a Midday dep, Easy didn't carry bikes last time I checked and I wonder what their baggage policy is on carrying helmets?

Still, this summer will be fun while it lasts!

I must agree. 2008 saw the Manx2 'bus schedule' on the BLK route. Flights between the two airports ran hourly all day for two weeks yet last year there was no change to the normal schedule at all.
