TTR fella, the airport loaders are to the airport what the dockers were to London and Liverpool in the 60s and 70s and youve got them off to a tee.

The whole of the airport needs sorting out as there are lots there on a very good wage for doing not too much, from the loaders to the tower. Problem is no politician here as the spine to take them all on, yessir

Having dealt with the isle of man loaders on more than one occasion I have to say they are the most over unionised, overpaid, classless, inept, aggressive, lazy, surly and stupid staff of anywhere I have been.

I'm sick of being talked back to, having my load instructions questioned or ignored, having the piss taken out of me every time I turn my back and having to adhere to strange rules and legislation that changes with the shift.

There must be some decent loaders there, but i've yet to meet them.

Flight Support (or whatever they are now) are excellent.
Wouldnt it be FS who qustion load sheets, rather than baggage handlers?

lfc84 you would think that it would be the dispatcher of a flight who questions the loading wouldn't you? Welcome to the IOM Airport, Loaders have free range to do what they like.

In our operation, the crew direct the loading and prepare the loadsheets. FS act as ground handling agents rather than dispatchers if that makes sense. And for saying they are chronically short staffed, do a great job. Can't speak highly enough of them, nice guys to a Tee.

Does anyone have a clue how much Easy will be claiming for yesterdays shambles. Its gotta be the cost of fixing at least two dents but the delay while grounded at IOM will shurely cost a whole bundle more. Who is paying ?? us IOM taxpayers I bet.

FS-01 .......Many would agree with your sentiments, but nothing will be getting privatised in the IOM while the current Chief Minister is in charge. Inefficient state intervention in services which are delivered perfectly well elsewhere by commercial organsiations, is his mantra. That is why the Island is currently in such a financial and fiscal mire, with no clear route out.

Oh and the airport is on the doorstep of his own constituency..........

LJ-50 - there may be a degree of in-breeding in all small communities, but at least they teach us how to spell and punctuate, so that by the time we are 60, we can write a couple of coherent, error free sentences.

You dick hed.

Tonyq, let's not bore the entire world with tales of the woeful inadequate parish councillors we have running this place but Chairman Broon, electrical wholesaler to the south and leader of the country bumpkin look-a-like society, does deserve a special mention. If the folk of Castletown have any sense he'll be living on his fat, tax payer subsidised pention pretty soon and the socialist state he has presided over will be dismanteld - starting with the airport. Yessir!

That is the future we hope.... there needs to be changes with the way IOM s run from the bottom with the loaders right up to the top, no names mentioned.... Is this any way to run an airport?

Flying with RE from LCY to IOM next week on business does anyone know if they are still using that tatty old ATR42 or are the using a ATR72??.

There was stories earlier in the year about BA operating ghost flight to CWL from LHR so that they wouldnt loose slots. Is EZY trying to hang onto the slots the IOM is using so that they dont have to give them up for FR to snap up??

Is a 156 seater aircraft too big for this route??. In the winter EZY are operating the IOM 6 x weekly. Is there enough demand in the winter for EZY to have a chance of making a success of the route??. If the details of the flight above are anything to go by EZY might struggle to make a success of the route through the summer.

Have Manx2 been seeing poor loads on the EMA?.

I just noticed that Manx2 are now selling a twice weekly flights from IOM to ORK/GWY .Deperating on a Friday and a Sunday.

Looks as if the flights will operate IOM/BFS/GWY/ORK, which means a flight time of just 2hrs for IOM-GWY and just over 3hrs for IOM-ORK.

It also isn't cheap, I had a look at fares in September and to fly IOM-GWY you will pay £99.95 one way and to fly IOM-ORK £124.95 one way.

Ezy are only operating to the IOM to satisfy an agreement they have with LJL Airport relating to movements there.

BAladdy - It was an ATR42 which flew me to LCY last Sunday. Less tatty than the last one I flew on. Not been back so can't confirm whether it is still the IOM-LCY airframe.

Was on the LCY route last week as well. Both flights were in a less tatty ATR42 as said by HAC above. Apparently this is now the assigned airframe - rumour was that the tatty one was only a stand-in but its stay was extended as the loadies in the IOM damaged the current airframe one morning - don't know if that's true but they do have "previous"!

Fares have gone up now though as there are less seats available, and I've had to go via LGW a couple of times as the flight has shown full.

It looks like Aer Arann have the AT72 on the IOM-LCY for the next few weeks, probably due to the warm weather and london city being quite limited on the ol' 42s
