I would like to see the aircraft that could depart off of 1829M give or take 150M and fly 10 hours to Houston.I have worked every type of widebody long haul aircraft going, and it WILL NOT HAPPEN without severe load restrictions. The alternative is a refuel in Shannon but both will make it uneconomical.
Stop dreaming and listening to BAA,Evening Express clap trap. This will always be a very minor hick little airport as far as BAA/NATS are concerned.

From GSM website & thanks to GLAGAZ who posted the info first:

On website:
Madeira (FNC?) (Mon)
MALAGA (Sat)
Prague (Mon, Fri)
Tenerife Sur (Tues, Fri)

Rumoured to come:
Geneva
Alicante (Thu, Sun)
Palma (Sat)
Paphos (Wed)

Believe Madeira is new to GSM, & AGP will be in competition with MON, one of whose scheduled service also operates on a Sat & has done since inaugeration.

Not bad for a hick airport, but will depend on the yield gleaned from the take-up.

Snoop New lounge

Who's bright idea was it to situate this on stand 12? The temp fencing has only been up a few days yet is already causing airfield ops/handling agents considerable headaches.

Totally agree that the back gates need better passenger facilities but surely the correct sequence was new stands first then new lounge?

I have yet to catch a glimpse of the construction plans for the project but would wager a considerable amount of (someone elses) money that there will be a retail opportunity housed therein

City Star to start Bergen

I wondered why 12 was wfu. Eastern will be pleased, as it tends to be their flights on the side stands.

City Star to start an early morning BGO flight, think from end May, "in response to business demand" for an early flight.

So some competition for SAS Gp.

How likely is Frankfurt?
Not very likely, IMHO, if ABZ is only able to fill a 50-70 seater, given the slot situation at FRA. It also depends whether demand is for O&D or connecting traffic. If the latter is ture, MUC might be a more likely alternative as it offers more connections nowadays than FRA and has less difficulties accommodating additional flights with smaller aircraft. However, I must admit while Lufthansa has never been particularly strong offering nonstop flights to Germany from other places than LON, MAN and BHX, the last destination to be added (EDI) is served from FRA and not from MUC. It will probably depend on the likely amount of business pax compared to other unserved UK destinations from either MUC or FRA, such as LBA, GLA, BRS or NCL. Generally speaking, Lufthansa's manager UK went on the record a year or so ago that Lufthansa is interested in serving more UK regional airports, but little has happened since.

As for this Houston stuff, I could imagine a Privatair service being operated on behalf of Star Alliance (i.e. a bmi/Lufthansa/United code-share).

There are a reasonable number of people who interline to a Privatair service ex AMS operated on the AF/KLM schedule so an operation of this nature ex ABZ may not be beyond the bounds of reason

Suspected heart attack for MD

Best wishes to Kevin Brown, who was taken to hospital over weekend. Only 38, so I guess you can never be sure. Thankfully recovering at home after surgery. Must have been the pressure of all those airlines looking to start routes out of ABZ (NOT!!!!)

Re HAU, apparently Coast Air requested slots for a scheduled service, but nothing more heard since (thanks to Martin for the reply to my enquiry).

How are bmi R doing re their introduced KRS & BRU services?

East Apron

Now that there's a gap where the prefab that housed the east heli terminal used to be, do BAA have any immediate plans to develop anything there for future?

New permanent terminal?
New hangar (for Donald & his mates? )
Railway station?
Retail development?

Or will it be left as a gap?

Or if 146s will be exhibited there then 'Pitch and Puff' is better suited. Talk about thread creep!

ABZ...loco-free zone?

With the honourable exception of GSM.

Of the others:

BE: BFS, LBA/EXT, BHX
WW: BHX
FR: DUB, LPL
U2: LTN
Continental Euro Locos: Zilch

All domestic & Eire.

Any prospects for expansion, or will ABZ costs/facilities/catchment area always count against it?

Just reading about the expansion elsewhere (eg. Sterling to EMA, Ryanair base at BRS), but ABZ always seems to be passed over.

Likes of BE & FR always TALK a good game...all trousers, no action maybe.

Not ALL pax out of ABZ work in oil & want to pay (be it through their own pockets or via their companies) sky high business fares.

Does 36mths+ of continuous pax growth pass the locos by?

Is ABZ destined to always rely on the likes of T3, X9, bmiR for future expansion?

(Feel the need for a rant! )

Richard,
Don't forget Monarch which is doing sterling service on the Malaga route!
As far as FR is concerned, isn't their possible expansion tagged to the runway lengthening?

Ryanair are 'down sizing' on the LPL run from daily to 3 x weekly from June onwards...... Wait for that route to be chopped by the time the winter schedule arrives!!!!

Will anyone EVER make a LPL route work???

3w ain't much use to the oil workers...or anyone else for that matter.

I can see RYR pulling out of ABZ altogether, no doubt blaiming high costs or whatever.

But I do think the B738 is just too big for the majority of ABZ scheduled routes.

But I cannot believe that ABZ is the worst performing destination in the RYR network.

Do the public/companies here really want to pay sky-high fares which is what they would end up with without any locos ("bucket & spade" flights notwithstanding)?
