BRU confirmed

And confirmed by bmi Reg.

Once daily indeed ex Sats, from 16/4.

Has that affected City Star plans I wonder, or were they never looking at BRU, just STN only.

Better get Stand 0 ready!

Landsflug (City Star parent co.)

Ceased trading, according to Jethro's.

If correct, what does the future hold for City Star themselves, they are still flying.

Without the parent, will they still be able to expand & what about the extra 2 DO328s that were supposed to be coming?

Or are their plans all "up in the air".

Cool

City Star split from Landsflug some time ago. City Star is expanding and will remain Icelandic reg for the time being. They are not starting a STN service.

Morning all.

With the continual talk of stand shortages this summer, are there any new airlines that have never served ABZ before in the offing? Most of the expansion tends to be with the based airlines(eg. bmi R, City Star) or airlines with significant ops(eg. Eastern). Anyone know if there are new airlines looking at ABZ, given the continuing growth being experienced?

Good to hear the based operators continuing to expand. Re City Star, I take it they were always looking elsewhere, & that STN/BRU was a "red herring?" From Meeb's post, I also take it that their split from Landsflug hasn't affected plans. Is that Landsflug's livery they carry, any plans to change it?

(I'm old enough to recall Air Ecosse, Peregrine, Bon-Accord A/W & Lakeside, & wish these local operators were still around - I'm obviously biased!! )

Read something in the Scotsman newspaper re biz movements at Scottish airports. Between 2001-6, they have more than doubled. EDI up 85%, GLA 35%. No figs for DND or INV. Nor for ABZ, but the story said they had been "flat" at ABZ. Part of the period under review coincided with low oil prices, but more recently things have picked up. So are ABZ biz movements on the way up now, or are they still relatively flat. Is cost of operating into ABZ a prohibitive factor? How much does it cost to send a bizzie up to ABZ?

bmi regional ABZ-BRU daily service is being achieved by cutting ABZ-AMS down from three to two per day.

Flybe latest?

All we know for sure is a twice daily BHX route is due to start 10/3 (presumably to replace now the thrice daily BACON BHX equivalent).

Are we any closer to finding our what Flybe intend to plan for ABZ once the BACON deal is finalised...that is, if they are planning anything at all!

Papers suggested a base, new routes, etc - but that's the papers for you!

Anyone have the inside track?

Flybe/Monarch

I did see a lorry driving around the airport with a large poster on the trailer advertising (pilots and Cabin crew) recruitment day at the thistle hotel.

Also yesterdays (26th feb)Monarch (Malaga) aircraft got injured. Baggage handlers pulling the rear steps away from the aircraft just before departure hit the rear of the wing causing considerable damage to the flaps and ailieron costing £250,000 to repair. (heard)
Damaged aircraft sitting on the eastside for the time being.
Monarch managed to position an aircraft from Gatwick for the pax from ABZ-AGP. Eventually left ABZ about 9pm.

Servisair maybe lose another contract??

Stu...

Flybe/BACON latest BHX/MAN?

BHX: Flybe now showing 3 flights M-F, mirroring BACON schedules during the wk (albeit slightly different timings).
MAN: Suggests BACON stop flights 12 or 13/3, but NO sign of Flybe taking up the route - bmi R may have to themselves??

IAH talks

Are the BAA & the "unnamed US airline" STILL in talks, anyone know? Is there anything more to talk about??

Least KLM have come out & said they would be intrerested in a IAH route, & the possible "open skies" deal, IF ratified, may go some way to help KLM along.

Dont think theres anything stopping KLM currently "open skies" or not. If they were genuine about it they could have started it. I dont think they have a suitable aircraft for that particular route via ABZ

KLM would probably use a Privitair BBJ, as used currently for some AMS-IAH flights

Flybe/BACON latest BHX/MAN

Flybe BHX starts 25/3 now.

No MAN, so bmi R will have it to themselves soon once BACON pull out.

No other Flybe ABZ routes, despite Mike Rutter talking up the ABZ "hub" as he calls it.

BA ground staff (those that want it) to move across to Aviance, assuming the deal has been done.

Would anyone fancy competing with bmi R on MAN, or do the figures not stack up for competition on the route.

Does this mean that the London services will be handled by Aviance as well?
ie No more "Speedbird Aberdeen?"

Skipness:
Yes, my understanding is just that.

6/3/2007 2137hrs:

According to Mike Rutter of FlyBE, the BACON MAN-ABZ route was losing some £2m. They say they MAY do the route as some point in the future, but they said that about NWI-ABZ (axed before it started) & we're still waiting.

bmi LHR

Once bmi R take over the LHR run with JJs this summer, they are adding a sixth rotation, but must be a "slot retainer" at LHR - if you look at the timings:

BD674 (regular flight) arrives ABZ 1215
BD668 (new) arrives 1305!

Not even the airline has advertised the extra service!

Rolling annual total pax at ABZ now 3.23m :- intl +17%, domestic +7%.

As a regular on the BACon MAN-ABZ-MAN over the last few months, the loads were never that great. You generally only saw over 30 on Friday afternoons and evenings but apart from that it was never that busy! I think a dozen being the lowest number I ever saw!!

BA never really marketed MAN as a transfer hub so the route was realy only point to point so it missed out on potential pax traffic. Shame really since MAN T3 is luxury when compared to the scrum in the midde of a building site that you find at LHR nowadays!

BACons loads out of MAN were not that great to be honest over the last few months with some flights hardly having any at all! It is a classic example of how not to run a company... the money they must of lost must be eye watering despite the hard work of their staff!

Flybe had a pilot recruitment road show at the Thistle recently but bit odd since they said they don't plan to open a ABZ base! Why have the venue at ABZ then?
