Cwl-abz?

Just wondering if there were any developments on a CWL/ABZ service?

Thanks for that. I may be a mere trolley dolly but I can still see what's going on. If the ground staff aren't with you then you can forget the rest. Sorry guys but if you don't get the right feedback on the ground then being able to fly the plane means nothing - BAA are not helping any airline in ABZ, so what do we do to make it count?

is there a risk that Ryanair will cancel the LPL route before Nov 2 at short notice? I am booked on a flight on Oct 10 and would hate to be stranded with the only option purchasing a sky-high fare on bmi to MAN on the spot....

ZB axing AGP

Scheduled ZB route to end at end of Oct, they will be doing "specials" over festive period & Jan08 only.

May as well just axe it altogether, can't see point of the odd flight as a "sop" to the people up here who have actually supported the route since its launch 2yrs ago.

The costs of operating with a MAN-based a/c apparently made the route "unviable"...but then again it has ALWAYS operated with a non-ABZ based a/c since inception, so what changed?

GSM have their own proposed AGP route from W07, but once weekly (Sat) & provided they manage to stay afloat, judging from what I've heard elsewhere on PPRuNe!

That's our lot up here - if ZB say costs are too high operating to/from ABZ, you can be sure other "major" UK loco operators will say the same thing.

Looks like we'll have to rely on GSM for loco scheduled holiday routes in future.

I think what changed was the introduction of GSM services. Given the limited catchment area and the choice of additional sun destinations it looks as though the market was spread too thin and I would guess that yields have suffered as a result making what was viable now not so

Yet another crap experience travelling through Aberdeen this time on holiday although I was only travelling to Heathrow from ABZ. Mid morning BA flight .... one hour ten minutes to check in! NO FAST BACK DROP even if you HAVE checked in on line. Bedlam in the check in area which was queued back to the baggage belt as we were left to fight arriving passengers waiting for bags for breathing space. Aviance staff improved on my last experience but painfully slow. Lots of supervisor intervention required .... how about some training! As for the female selecting passengers at random to fill out the BA questionairre ... why doesn't she direct towards the check in desk to see for herself. It wouldn't be hard to work out It IS A SHAMBLES.

Afraid as long as BAA have their hands on ABZ, things ain't gonna change very quickly.

We're not in the SE England, nor central belt Scotland so we don't count for much.

If airlines see us as "out of the way" BAA will feel likewise I'm sure.

Perhaps the ABZ site could be redeveloped...into a golf course. Seems to be the "in" thing just now...

Land at GLA/EDI/DND & travel up in a horse drawn carriage...

Well its a pity the fares didn't reflect the service. I have friends flying out to Paphos tomorrow on GSM .... I shudder to think.

No surprise that Monarch are stopping their AGP.

The costs of operating with a MAN-based a/c apparently made the route "unviable"...but then again it has ALWAYS operated with a non-ABZ based a/c since inception, so what changed?
Nothing has changed but enabling a service from ABZ took lots of extra crew and extra money due to HOTAC and positioning flights for crew. Out of the Monarch A320/321 fleet at MAN, the only nightstops that occur are due to the ABZ rotation. They have crews on split duties, positioning around and sitting in hotel rooms - all of which are not very productive. Especially when Monarch are trying to re-model themselves as a low cost scheduled airline.

It is ashame since I am sure there is a loyal customer base since IMHO Monarch has the best low cost product of any low cost airline around.

PLENTY space on the ramp soon then!

bmi R must wonder if its worth expanding at ABZ! Or anyone else for that matter.

Wonder who's next for the chop?

So much for "demand".

Well so much for all the news hype "New Routes from ABZ"

For as many new routes we get, as many are withdrawn. Problem is all the routes seem to be to places where other Airlines go eg BMI to AMS when KLM operate that run.

Aberdeen aiport is a serious joke, the new extension is pathetic and as for the baggage carousel....... enough said. What an embarrassment to the Oil Capital of Europe.

As has been said before, and probably on this thread (I can't be a***d looking back), the Airport at ABZ will be sorted when the bypass is open, mind you everyone will have buggered off elsewhere by then

Very very few routes t/f ABZ can support 2 carriers...with the exception of SVG, which can support up to 10.

Apart from that, many routes struggle to support ONE airline, never mind two.

Has growth at ABZ reached its limit?

If bmi can't make a route work on an E135/145, what hope other carriers, unless your name's Eastern?!

Lack of catchment area & lack of interest in leisure travelling up to here seems to be catching up with us - or am I totally wrong?

How well is this area marketed as a leisure destination?

bmi's withdrawal from ABZAMS now reached the ears of the local press.

Spokesman though confirms that ABZ still recording "double-digit" growth for bmi, despite the recent setbacks (with BRU & AMS) so all not lost.

They continue to look for opportunities for growth & new route out of ABZ.

As said, they hold slots for RTM, remains to be seen if they take these up.

MAN to go to 7 daily M-F from Sept.

Wonder if NWI is due an increase, been twice daily M-F for a few years now.

Are they any closer to acquiring more JJs?
