No wonder the helis are p****ng off to DND or INV!!
Perhaps the place could be bulldozed & turned into fields again!
Hear the concrete is falling apart as well...
ABZ ain't got much goin' for it.

They are ping off to Dundee etc, because there are no training slots for circuits/IFR training at ABZ.The heli companies have not invested in simulators for the AS3B,EC225,or S92(surprised £).In the past a great deal of training was done at Longside, but that is for light aircraft only now,so they have to go somewhere.
Our books say that training traffic is a lower priority than scheduled etc,so that's what this little soldier does.Follow the rules especially when the weather is marginal. You get into trouble if you don't.
Yeah taxiway at W1 is falling to bits.It will need major work at weekends over the next few weeks. That means backtracks for landers and departures depending on runway,so BiiiiiiGGG gaps.Otherwise the toy town airport grinds to a halt again.Guess who has to sort that mess out.Yup ATC and no doubt the helis will want to do circuits as well. love it Yeah right.
So to sum up the ATC staff have to carry the can for others lack of investment, and our management are squeezing the towel as well.Time to get out.

Throw A Dyce
I bet you are pleased the Heli's are dissapearing for training, On final approach we are given speeds to follow which range from 240 to 140 and sometimes are given 3 different speeds to follow in the space of 2 mins.
A nightmare for us if we have to keep speed high till late.

BTW what's with City Star just now, advertising their BGO route when they are not (or have not) been flying it this week, also reduced freqs on OSL & SVG?
Is it their annual Icelandic pilgrimage (ie. most of their planes have gone to Iceland to do charters)?

Stavanger bunfight
As reported on their thread, Eastern have announced ABZSVG from Aug, SB20twice daily M-F.
Surely more than enough SVG flights already? That'll make make 8 flights from Aug with 2 each from SAS, WIF, ISL & EZE (knew my arithmetic would come in handy one day! )
Fair play if they can make it work but aren't they all after the biz market (OIL) - surely plenty empty seats to come for all???

Why why why can we not get some new routes into ABZ. We need more Europe routes (not the holiday destinations) but routes to France, Italy Germany etc. It's the biggest pain ever having to travel through London or Amsterdam.
Ok rant over, I am being extremely selfish as I want to fly to Munich next year and am at present researching this.

MUFC thanks for that. Just had a look at their website but prices are £130 more expensive than BA or KLM. I will maybe keep an eye on that though in case they have a sale!!!

Viking invasion
And even more flights - WIF to respond to City Star launching ABZBGO by adding another BGO flight of their own, which will nightstop resulting in an early morning dept...nothing to do with the City Star competition then!
Never mind Germany, Italy et al, we can all GO TO NORWAAAAY!
Reading about the GSM ALC flight on Mon...pax hysteria strikes again?

Thanks MUFC fan, a little better but still £50 more expensive. Something to bear in mind though. The dates are not until next May with a return in June so not all airlines have these loaded yet. I will keep looking. KLM had a 4 day sale on at the weekend which knocked about £60 off the price but they haven't released the dates yet.

Wellington,
I will never give any aircraft 240 kts on final. However I do notice that many operators will fly turboprops at these speeds, without any prompting from us.These include Eastern who have said that their SOP is 160kts,but they will fly 240-140kts by themselves on the JS41.
Perhaps it's a lack of appreciation on your part about intergrating fixed wing and helis on the ILS,with vortex, and tower gap spacings that is the problem.I can only guess to which airline you fly for as you don't say.It wouldn't begin with an E perhaps?
As for the great E service to SVG then that will be another candidate for blocking the BAA's crumbling taxiways up,waiting for a stand.Where's Stand 0 and the runway extension gone? To fix the taxiways that's where.

The runway ext. is going ahead as planned but will be done at the same time as the whole runway resurface program. 2008/9
As for the crumbling taxi-ways yes they are long overdue but they are doing something about it now. Whiskey taxi-way worked on nights and weekends and charlie taxi-way as we speak.
Stand 0 as said before has been put on hold because of the Gas main, not as easy to shift as you'd think seemingly. But a couple of stands to be put alongside stands 16/17. Soon.

Well I hope the handling companies get the idea of curved pushbacks PDQ.The instruction came out last Friday for the W taxiway work,so I tried some.Out of 8 attempts I got precisely 0 pushed the way they were instructed.Heard that Aviance have only 4 out of 25 that can curve push.Since the instruction was effective, that should have been 8 MOR's filed, for not following an ATC INSTRUCTION.They better get this sorted by this weekend,or it's going to be carnage on that apron.
Putting stands in next to 16,(17 is just a left over piece of tarmac) isn't going to help much. It's new concrete that's needed and at the International stands. Also the more stands(plastered over existing concrete) put in up towards Bristows makes it more difficult to get helis in and out of there. But then BAA don't give 2 hoots about that.Increasingly there is less places to hold fixed wings.Isn't A3 crumbling as well. One of these days we will have to hold in the air, because the apron is blocked up.In fact it's this weekend with the W taxiway work.Something that has been breaking up for ages, and could have been fixed ages ago surely.

I hope the standard of repair is better than that already crumbling bit of tarmac laid (in the last week?) on the CTB access road where it joins the CHC Apron!
