RE keep Donegal-PIK going against FR's Derry-PIK. Is there anything different about the LON market compared to the PIK market that means RE couldn't make a Donegal-London service work?
......or English teachers in Northern Ireland.....!
I think it would be bonkers for Donegal CC, who subsidise Derry airport, to then allow competition on routes from Carrickfinn against (what's left) Derry. To be honest, you have to ask where's easier to get to for most of the people in Donegal (and Sligo/Fermanagh etc)? Derry or Carrickfinn?
Perhaps Aer Arann should take a massive, massive risk and challenge the haphazard, arse about tit RYR LON scheduling from Derry, with maybe a twice daily LTN (like they do from Waterford for example).

Even twice a day, 3 or 4 times a week service like the CFN-PIK route would be good for testing the water, like it has been mentioned while most of the pop. lives in Letterkenny Carrickfinn is closer to most of the south of Donegal.
Just too bad international connections don't operate from Luton really...

Oh true, I was thinking more along the majors flying to Asian/Middle East hubs.
But LTN works for holidaymakers in Europe just fine. Good idea methinks, even just to trial.

Routes
I think an MME route for Aer Arran might work as they have catchment for themselves, NCL, LBA, HUY which is quite large and possibly would work as it did for ryanair but not enough passengers for a 737-800W.

Hi DeA320,
Where was it based last time? From memory it was one of the regional airports? At first glance I think they'll have a job filling it if they're basing it out of Dublin. I'm sure they must have a good plan for it though, big risk to take without having a good plan in place.

It was based in Galway and operated via Waterford doing summer charters to Bordeaux, Malaga and Faro. I believe that they may have also used it for some time to AMS but it didn't last long. Was still in Galway until late last year or earlier this year.

Aer Arann 146
DaE320.
Just as a correction, of the two 146's used by Nex / Aer Arann the first returned to Cityjet and went into store at Norwich on 24/10/08 and the second left Ireland on 17/10/08 and was then operated by Flightline until 28/11/08. Since then it has been parked at Southend, Nex operated on the Flightline aoc and when that company ceased trading on 3/12/08 the aoc was no longer available. I am hearing recently, that the Cityjet aircraft may have been sold, but it is still parked at Norwich and the Nex aircraft is still parked at Southend. It would be good to see it back in service with Nex / Aer Arann, but on whose aoc ?

Rumour has been going around for awhile that it will go on Aer Arann's AOC.
Nex don't have an AOC. Looks like it will be Dublin based.
Major (positive) announcement due within next few weeks.

Hi again,
From what I can see it will be on Aer Aranns' AOC as they were recruiting for people with BAe 146 experience a couple of months ago. It seems like a very big undertaking for adding a single aircraft and also for an aircraft of that age....perhaps more are in the pipeline?? Out of interest, does anyone know if adding the BAe 146 to the AOC can also cover the Avro RJ or would it require additional work? Both type are on the same Type Cert (link below) so am just considering what the authorities would require.

Any idea what the announcement will be? Anything to do with the ownership or new investment? (Just thinking back to the article a couple of weeks ago linking them with some new investors).

Major (positive) announcement due within next few weeks.
1. Doing some charter work for other airlines and the football charters that it has been advertising.
2. Or else they are planning some sub contract work for airlines like Aer Lingus, would Aer Lingus look at some Uk routes that would be better suited to 146 twice daily rather than 320x 1?
Otherwise, is there something about LCY in here? Unlikely that Cityjet would need sub contract done, and unlikely that Aer Arann would open this in there own rite?
