CWL

There has been some advertising in South Wales for EI, mainly on radio stations. Haven't seen anything else.
However CWL have been extremely keen to promote the route. The launch day consisted of quite a bit of media coverage, with cheerleaders and american football players.
ORK is seeing higher figures than normal.
DUB now being x3 daily everyday, rather than just peak days is still more or less the same as before.
As for Transatlantic, its picking up, on average 4-6 per flight, with over 10 on a good day. Not great figures, but its still early days, the flights havent been on sale for that long considering people buying long haul flights often plan well in advance.
With the demise of CO's BRS-EWR service as of november, i think EI and CWL got in on this at just the right time

Shannon OR Galway & Kerry

Since Ryanair have cut Shannon to various regional UK airports, should Aer Arann/Aer Lingus Regional launch services to the same airports from both Kerry and Galway or should they go into Shannon directly?

Aer Arann are doing Galway to Manchester, Edinburgh and Luton. Kerry to Manchester.

What about Galway to Birmingham (with ATR42), Flybe did before with Q400 but I am not sure BE is well known in Galway.

What about a look at Galway and Kerry and market Aer Arann services to Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Perhaps Edinburgh could work 2 per week from Kerry and Glasgow from Galway?

So what are peoples views on the EI deal then? I myself think it is a good one as long as EI don't cut and run. I think the Regional deal has saved them for now but they seem to be putting all their energy in to that deal and giving the two fingers to the WAT and GWY bases and they're the 2 best bases! The WAT-LTN route is the best one they have so they need to be careful. Rumour has it that RE are to get 2 more new aircraft this summer for phase 2 of the EI Regional deal with 3 more to come later on this year.

LDYEDI Axed ...

Aer Arann withdraws plan for new route to City of Derry.
30th April: 2010: Aer Arann regrets to announce that a plan to operate a new route to City of Derry Airport from Edinburgh has been suspended.

The new route was announced on March 1st and both the airport authorities and the airline expected it to perform well. Unfortunately, despite the perceived interest, bookings for the route have been very poor and the decision had to be taken to suspend the services.

All intending passengers who have booked on the routes will be contacted proactively by Aer Arann and they will receive full refunds.

The route was to begin on May 20th with 6 flights per week between City of Derry and Edinburgh. However forward bookings over the summer proved to be very weak, with flights over the first weeks of the service booked only to single digit load factors.

In making this announcement the airline pointed out that while current trends are for advance bookings to be low, with passengers increasingly booking flights closer to the departure date, the booking profile on the proposed new route was particularly weak even with fares as low as £36 one way including taxes.

“We sincerely regret suspending the route at this point but we must act in the overall interests of all of our customers and the airline”, said Aer Arann Corporate Affairs Director Andrew Kelly.

“We looked at this route and we felt there was an opportunity based on reported demand, but that demand has not materialized and so we have made the decision not to start routes that show no signs of being anything but loss making. While unfortunate and regrettable it is the wisest decision to make in the long term interest of our customers and the financial performance of the airline”, he continued.

Aer Arann is happy to consider re-opening the route and other possible routes from Manchester in the future, perhaps when there is more recovery in the economy and when they can be deemed commercially viable.

Aer Arann services to Galway and Waterford from Edinburgh continue to perform strongly and routes from Edinburgh to Dublin and Cork with Aer Lingus Regional, which began operating on March 28th are also performing well.

Aer Arann and Aer Lingus Regional customers in Edinburgh will continue to enjoy the same competitive fares and great value offered on these services.

Hmm bit of a typo in that I think unless Aer Arann started flying to Waterford from Edinburgh and didn't tell anyone.

EI-SLL

Hi All

EI-SLL is now operating services for Aer Arann with yet another colour scheme.

The aircraft has been painted all white with just the engines painted Aer Lingus green. The aircraft has no large Aer Arann logo other than aer arann.com on the engines.

I assume this scheme will allow the aircraft to slot into Aer Lingus routes to cover for maintenance.

Lost opportunity for Aer Arann to re-establish its own identity on EI-SLL. Does not need to be the "Rings" as on the -500 srs. something cheap, simple and standardised on 42s and 72s that are not part of the Aer Lingus Regional contract.

The 42s look battered (exception of EIBYO perhaps) in the old livery.

I hope it's on their urgent to-do list as each new plane they add in a different paint scheme they cheapen the company image.

After all, what would you think of a company car that had a different coloured panel on every part of the body? Particularly if the colours weren't freshly painted...

If it is in the same config as it was when it flew in DL colours then 66 seats

RE were meant to lease 3 Air Contractors ATR72's. Any word on when and if the other two aircraft will arrive??

Hopefully the Air Contractor ATR72's are in better condition than EI-REH and EI-REI. Notice that the LCY-IOM aircraft was tech today leading to a cancellation

Aer Lingus Regional

Does anyone know if there are going to be any changes in the routes for the winter? Are some just summer only?

With the exception of Cork-La Rochelle, they all look like the kind of routes that you'd try to operate year round.

HI deA320 - Aer Arann still have 4 ATR72-500's on order as factory new from ATR and they are reported to be getting in another 2 72's from Air Contractors.

Winter Schedule

Hi All

Aer Arann seem to be chopping afew routes

Cork to Dublin and Belfast finish at the end of August due to an ATR42 being removed from the fleet and Galway to Waterford finishes at the end of October. This returns all Galway to Luton flights to direct services and returns an ATR72 to Waterford full time.

Pax numbers on the PSO routes seem to be regulary in single digits.
