Very disappointing to here the axing of the BAe146 service after so much effort had been put into it by all concerned. That said, better to axe now instead of burning alot of cash on tooling, spares, resource etc. only to find out afterwards the numbers didn't stack up.

I expect that the potential work for the 146 was outside the core business for Aer Arann and in these difficult times it would have taken real guts and a significant contingency fund to have embarked on introducing the new type. Nevertheless a great shame for all involved.

Given that Aer Arann's interline service from Cork to Dublin to avail of Aer Lingus's transatlantic services ex Dublin is helping them to sustain the route in competition with Ryanair, why don't Aer Arann extend this interline agreement to the regional airports? During this recession, Aer Arann need the extra business on the regional routes and so does Aer Lingus on its transatlantic services!

Aer Arann voucher promotion

Aer arann has started a promotion where you can purchase vouchers and have an extra 50% added to them free. Has anyone had any experience with this?

When you contact Aer Arann by phone to redeem the vouchers, do they charge the same over the phone when compared to the website?
If your flight does not cost as much as the voucher do you keep the remainder to use again?

After reading the terms and conditions, seems a very good deal, is there a catch?

Thanks

They had a similar deal last January, was a really good bargain. And yep, any unused can be used again as far as I'm aware

RE have launched a series of flights between Dublin and Gloucester for the Chelteham races next March, usually a huge Irish event. The routes are on sale on their website but no ads that I have seen yet.

Arran have been to GLO on charter services so ATR seems capable - the April 2008 photo archive in the "enthusiast" site linked from the airport website has photos of three ATR72s on the GLO apron, presumably some rugby event?

Aer Arann have done a range of charters to GLO for rugby and racing with the 42 and 72's.

It's a 'scheduled' operation for Tuesday to Friday of the Cheltenham Festival next year with seats bookable in both directions, allowing the good folks of Gloucestershire to spend St. Paddy's Day in Dublin too.

Should do well.

hi weshtraveller - your message re the vouchers.. my experience is ..

Aer Arann ran this last year and i ordered vouchers. I've had the vouchers all year and in late November I phoned the call centre and booked flights for 9th Dec. I got the flights at the published online rates. Literally I looked the flights up online that i wanted, noted the flight nos etc and called the booking line.

There wasn't a catch - i.e. something bad or dodgy as far as I could tell, other than you have 1) to use the vouchers within 1 calendar year and 2) to phone the reservation line (rather than book online) - which was busy for about 20 mins, on a sunday, without an indication of where i was in a queue. BUT having said that, the lady that answered was really friendly, and she emailed my booking details to me.

Bottom line, I have a few days until I fly on my first vouchers, but when I saw the offer again, I ordered new vouchers for next year as it was so easy to do before.

Just had a look there. She doesn't seem to be online yet. Strange, she was supposed to be flying by now.

EI-EHH

EI-EHH has finally shown up on the register (22/12/09). It turns out to be MSN196 and is ex Air Wales. Seems to match the other aircraft in the fleet as it's a 1990 vintage A/C.

apparently missing paperwork on the aircraft has caused the delay. seems to be G-SSEA.

I knew I got it wrong!! Cheers!

According to the Jethros site there are still 4 72500's on order. Is this a mistake?

Hi DeA320, Aer Arann had an order for 10 x ATR 72-500, they received 5 of them, EI-REL, REM, REN, REO and REP. If I recall they sold REN to a Swedish Airline, Goldenair (?) as they had been leasing that plane to them for some time. I think they also sold EI-RER before it had actually been delivered, again to Goldenair.

That leaves the 4 listed on Jethros to be delivered, have't read anything to suggest that they won't be coming, but since they did the reduction in fleet nos/growth plans maybe they've deferred. Although I don't work in the industry I follow pretty closely, always thought they should have got 5 x 72-500 and 5 x 42-500 to have a brand new fleet. I wonder if they could uprate the remaining order backlog to the new 600 variant, may be ideal for LCY ops as uprated engines...

anyway, rather than rambling on, i hope that helps.
