You sound PERFECTLY suited for the job. Please apply today.
I
Say that at interview and they'll snap your hand off.
If they get enough like you, they can get rid of all salaried pilots and if that ever happens, I hope you are proud of yourself.
don't really care about the payment

DONT GO NOW!!!!! THEY KNOW WHO YOU ARE
(cant wait to read about a arik van fistfight)
Speaking of pay....anyone paid yet

Who in their right mind doesn't care if they get paid on time?
You obviously are a self centred person with no real responsibliities or committments and a real team player.
If you get hired by Arik, I dare you to say you don't care about getting paid on time to another pilot or any employee in person. The outcome will most certainly be a punch to the nose.
No pay yet. Oh well, reivilo says it's no big deal.

Just out of interest, is the rotation currently 30/30 or 60/30.
What is take home dosh for 737 Capt ?
Yes I know I could ask them direct, but . . . A- I am likely to get a more honest answer from you guys, & B- I don't want to contact them unless I think it "may" be worthwhile.
Yes yes , I know it is fairly cr@p, maybe even VERY cr@p but I wouldn't be planning on staying too long anyhow, just something till next Spring/Summer.
How long does it take from recruitment to get on line, a Quickie ? or a marathon like India/China?
Cheers for the heads up (even if "heads down" is probably a better plan there?)

Femo, if you've got the right to work in UK, then BA's currently looking for Apprentices, if that's an easy way out for you, then check out their website.
If you don't have the right, I am sorry i don't know of many alternatives and i doubt Arik has any serious scheme out there. Am sure they owe the schools, if at all they have any scheme.
So Arik might not be your safest and sensible option.
All the best matey.

We all started signing 30/30 contract amendments about two weeks ago. I doubt everybody has completely transitioned to the new scheme, and I also doubt it will last long term.
There at "goals" to reach 90 hours of flying in that 30 days. Of course, you have no control over getting a work or resident visa, or making sure that your training is scheduled and paid for to keep you current, and all the other things that make it unlikely to hit that 90 hour target. So, the likely outcome is a return to 56/28.
This past summer, before pilots started quitting in droves, they were talking about 56/14. This scheme is purely to attract new pilots.
Finally, you will do your training / recurrent during your time off, so that 30 days won't always be off. Travel is now during your off time. And the protocol office still has control of the travel arrangements, which means that there are going to continue to be issues of timely travel arrangements (much of the time, they have no money to issue the tickets).
By the way, if you're the chosen few on the A330, you'll enjoy 15/15, and on time salaries that are quite a bit higher than those of us flying the little toy airplanes in Lagos.

$8000 total, with 10% of that paid locally in Lagos in Nigerian currency. It will likely rarely be on time (only once for me in almost two years), and if they know (or even think) that you're leaving for another airline, they won't pay your final salary. Very classy place.

So many questions
.....(IOSA)Is it normal that there are 8 findings surely this is quite an achievement given a lot of other airlines on their first assessment could easily be in to 30/40 findings. I think IATA will not allow any communication of the process until all findings are closed.
Secondly..... Arik - takes money from government to turn into future laundered airplanes money. Has never made a pence. Doubtful it ever will.
I am no expert in African/Nigerian aviation but that is a serious allegation to make and could jeapordise relations that the airline has with government agencies. it's one thing talking about the conditions that pilots face, quite another to indicate laundering.
Any real info on this or is it just hearsay and speculation?

Stolen info from another site:
"Arik Air apparently canceled the launch of a two weekly service to Abidjan, which was due to start on 28 October. Air Nigeria has a five weekly service from Lagos to Abidjan."
An article in a Nigerian paper (that is generally very favorable to Arik) that speaks about Nigerian avaition (including Arik):
News -- 'Nigerian airlines are going through slow death'
"This Day" Nigerian daily newspaper:
'Nigerian airlines're going through slow death'
By Chinedu Eze, 10.31.2010
(An interview with the Minister of Aviation??? It reads like an interview with the acting MD of Arik. I thought pilots would love this
"I asked FAAN the other day; you know the issue of Calabar, where a taxi went into the tarmac and hit Arik aircraft. Never in the world has it occurred before. Explosion did not happen because we have new generation aircraft that has double tank protection. If it were the 737-300, that plane would have exploded and killed everybody. But that plane double-tank and it is explosion proof. We just thank God that the specification is correct. "

.I am just trying figure out how and why with all the issues stated here that the company seems to still be going.....
Like every company that fails, it will probably operate right up until the day that it doesn't. Like the airline whose buildings Arik now occupies, the failed Nigerian Airways.
It would be great to fix things and turn it around. I firmly believe that the current DFO is a man perfectly suited to make that happen, if it can happen. Certainly there are others who are trying. The 30/30 rotation scheme was promoted by the current B737 fleet manager (his fleet had the greatest loss of pilots of any fleet).
But, the cost to the airline for pilots probably will go up significantly when the 90 hour metric can't be met for the 30/30 rotation. Not good for any company, and worse for a company that doesn't make money. When I flew JFK to LOS a few weeks ago, there were 41 on board. Four of those were our commuting pilots (in coach, of course). Do the math on what it cost to operate an A340 for 11 hours and see how much that leg cost. This company loses a lot of money, and that route is one of the worst.
The damage to the reputation of the airline in the pilot community is not going to be undone any time soon. Playing games with pilot pay checks was and is the singular biggest issue. If they could pay on time consistently for, say, a year, you might be able to argue that "all is well". But they couldn't even do it two months in a row (pay day was a few days ago).
