Also told that expats staying at Welcome Centre hotel must buy their food (again) for lack of payment by Arik.

At least some things never change.

Nickballack....you live in new york???

Please head over to the air nigeria/virgin/nigerian eagle forums to write your posts from now on. Chanchangi needs you badly as well...i think id rather have the 737ng flying itself without some of you guys anywhere near the flight deck. In fact if i could id rather the plane conduct the entire sortie purely on automation. seriously though... I think at arik you might A. Need the type rating B. Need to speak english C. Need to either be nigerian or have 500 on type D. Know somebody E. Let the ink dry

Angry Still No September Pay?

Am reliably informed that many (if not most) local staff have not been paid their September salary (due 28 Sep). Just 3 days to go for October's pay to be due!
And that some staff at guesthouses & hotels lodging Arik staff have not been paid because their employers have not received payment for bills incurred!

This outfit wants to be the emirates of africa

This outfit is getting a lot of kudos from the West

Long live the mighty $$$$$

More power to Big J & lil j and all those who have their backs

Just been invited for screening at Arik Air. I want to do it, but I would like to know some experiences about the working conditions in Lagos etc. ?
18 pages of woe and you are still asking stupid questions?

Clearly, you need somebody to hold your hand. Ask yourself this; What is the title to this thread? Hmmmm. Pay cheques. Specifically, late ones. As I'm writing this, the local Arik staff has not been paid for Sept 2010.

1. Would you be happy to work and get paid whenever they feel like it?

2. Why do you think they "need" you? Answer; because about half the workforce will have quit by the end of 2010.

3. Why are they quitting? Answer; pay would be right up there, but there are a whole host of reasons, some completely out of Arik's control. Read the thread.

Now, let me ask you; Why do you want to work there? If you don't know anything about it, why?

IOSA?

Hey guys I was doing a bit more research into arik and the latest update is that they did very well in their IOSA and had very little findings. Surely this must point to some kind of improvement......also why the animosity towards people enquiring about working down there, I have been on the Emirates thread and they are also painting a rather gloomy picture...are things as bad as they seem or is it a case of the grass is always greener...

Arik Passes Iosa - Is It True?

Where can I find accurate information? All I can find are a news report from 08 Oct 10 in Vanguard and the Nigerian Aviation Blog. Both not exactly noted for accurate reporting.

If I were Arik I would be shouting about IOSA from the rooftops as this means full IATA membership and opportunities for interline with other carriers.

I suspect there may be some 'issues' that need to be resolved before they can get approval. How much of Arik's procedures rely on contracted third parties?

At the moment VK are still the only Nigerian carrier with IOSA that is still flying. Rumours are that they have acquired an Airbus to get back on London!

I see reports that Arik have cancelled ABJ, is this correct? Must be due to 'previous history' as it is certainly a money-maker judging by the current fare levels.

To the guy inquiring

You must be a guppy driver...which brings up 2 points. If you read these forums you would see that as others were saying. There are many other 737 operators hiring right now. So many that 3/4 of ariks expats have not just "left for winter." Secondly, which makes the point that you must be a "higher time pilot" to have an assesment as a foreigner. Which goes back to my original point... If you dont drive the guppy...then well, arik doesnt need you. Its a double edged sword arik has to deal with...and unless arik can be spot on with pay and rotations it's never gonna keep guys around. (obvious)... Pilots are too hard headed, if they have there mind made up to go to nigeria they're gonna go. There are countless guys sitting in lagos right now who read every post in the book. Its what you make of it... You have to be flexible.

Arik isn't yelling about IATA because they are not there yet.

There were 8 discrepencies. Only one was from flight ops. More work to do.

It's a bit silly to speak of Arik in the same reference with the big E airline in DXB. There's no comparison. Whatever E is doing, Arik is opposite.

E- makes money every year except year two (in the 1980's).
Arik - takes money from government to turn into future laundered airplanes money. Has never made a pence. Doubtful it ever will.

E- pays crew on time, every time, Arik, no way. Still unpaid employees for Sept. (it's almost Nov).

E- captains in First Class, F/O's in business, Arik will fire a crew member in First or Business.

E- world class, around the world. Arik, bit player that is soon to get some competition, if they don't completely fold on their own.

E- awesome city. Arik... ah, not so awesome.

It always ends up in tears out there. Good luck if you decide to take the plunge. The various posts above says it all, a word or two is enough for the wise!
