just the yanks huh?
i know hundreds of 250-1000hour yanks who would give a lung of get an opportunity to fly jets and fly with an active airline like arik.some have said to me( their words not mine)-"i dont care if i dont get paid at all,and i dont care what goes on there. screw late pay! is that the problem? i will go to a civilwar country for all i care"....."jet-time" and "hours on type" seem to be what i hear them say the most.
I would disagree...as many US regionals are now hiring with posted mins of 1000/100 and even one reputable regional posting at 600/100.
Yankeeland, to them is where they can live at home, have jumpseat approval and flight benefits not only for themselves but their family, along with union protection, minimum reserve guarantee, paycheck consistency, and flowthrough/upgrade (potential.)
Yes many pilots are chomping at the bit for work...but the example that you listed was eg. "Nigerian" and Arik last I checked is a privately owned Nigerian Airline? It is the best option for a Nigerian any day of the week. 250hrs wet commercial with the added bonus of a 737NG type rating and years of guaranteed employment. Im with OBA1... most yanks/aussies/brits/euros and yes even other africans hit the tarmac at lagos and are immediately re-evaluating their life choices. Followed by their trying to convince themselves that they love it!!

...................................
oh did i forget to mention SALARY?? 2nd year regionals in the US average about $2500-$3000. subtract tax, rent, transport, cell phone and utility bills......these guys are left with little(good luck if you are married and have a family).Hence another reason for them to envy arik pilots. Lets face it, with all the bashing arik gets in this forum(which it rightfully deserves), i have read no complain about low salaries(when they do get paid). And again, the goal for americans is to hit the Major Airlines, trust me, they will gladly bypass the 6 yeasr meager living life at the regional airline stage and getting with arik and garnishing their CVs with Jet time and hours on type and on heavys and all that, some say they will process a loan to get typed on the 737 if they are sure of a job......Again, countless will gladly jump on the arik ship!!

Just heard that the two A330's that Arik Air was supposed to get won't be happening. There's going to be a lot of upset guys who were betting, hoping, praying, against the odds, that they'd get a bump to the left or to a bigger plane.
But, they did promise to pay on time this month (anybody ever heard that before) and have 25% growth next year. That only computes in the mind of Arik.
Best wishes all,
Oba

I'm losing track. Has Arik paid the expats their 10% naira for last month yet? Have all the pilots received their direct deposit money for November?

Funny story....buddy of mine got hired to fly at Arik. Went thru the recurrent sim training and then got his visa so he could go to Nigeria. couple days before he was supposed to go, he gets a class date at a better (and not based in Africa) company. So he tells Arik thanks but no thanks! Wonder if they made him sign a training contract and if they will try to come after him.

There are exactly two Arik pilots on the 340. One captain, and one FO. The rest are contract pilots from HiFly of Portugal.
I doubt those two guys are complaining. You rarely see either one of them around Lagos. To my knowledge, the captain has never been checked out by HiFly, and I think HiFly gave up on that. The FO is checked out (he came from the CRJ, which should give some indication to his "favoured status"). The FO also has a write up on himself in one of the Arik inflight magazines. Both are Nigerians.

Hour Whore a.k.a Sh*t Whore?
Correct me if your desperation for hours has made you tolerant to Sh*tty, shabby treatment?
My beef with your last post is your quip that being Nigerian implies being favoured by Nigerian airlines, it made me wonder what you've been smoking.
Use your situational awareness (which i'm beginning to question) to tell this house that QUANTAS, SKYTRANS, REX or other operators from where you are currently located will take on 737NG master ahead of you (assuming you hail from Down Under). No BS, just a straight answer pls.
If you can't answer this little quiz, then stop banging on about where 737NG master comes from. As long as there are good, cheaper, qualified locals, any expat is on borrowed time, typically deemed as too much of an expense by management. This is a Golden rule in any industry globally. Remember, not all expats are experts!
