Post From ThisDay... only the dates need be changed

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock....

]Is the Labourer Still Worthy of His Hire? By Osisioma Nwolise Those who climb trees with their teeth, know the trees whose barks are bitter. Thus those who are used to the holy books know that one key divine injunction concerning employer - employee relations is that a labourer is entitled to his wages. Before the coming of the holy books to Africa., our culture was that if a man (king or citizen) invited people to assist him in farm work, or building a house, once the people commenced work, the man commenced cooking the food they will eat. At the end, the people ate again and went home with gifts of gratitude.

European civilisation then came with the culture of employment and monthly payment of salaries and wages in public and private sectors. Initially things worked well. as workers got their monthly salaries between the 25th and last day of each month. Those who retired also got their gratuity as they retired, and went home happy while their pension entitlements were paid as and when due....

What an ungrateful society! It is wicked, inhuman, immoral, mean, and bordering on criminality not to pay workers their salaries at the end of each month in this very rich country. It is un African, and a crime against humanity. These workers have to transport themselves to their work places. They have to eat well to have energy to do their work. They have children and dependent relatives to feed, clothe, house, and treat medically when nature calls. They have aspirations and plans for their future. How do the employers expect workers to meet all these without their monthly salaries being paid as and when due?....

If one examines the theories for the late or non-payment of salaries, none holds any moral ground, as they only spell wickedness, meanness and greediness...

Irregular salaries make it impossible for workers to plan their expenditures, lives and future. ...

At the national level, Nigeria remains a laughing stock in the world, as a wealthy nation, that deliberately starves its workers, money-miss-road type of entity.

Arrow Maybe there was some value to this thread !!!!

I want all my fellow Arik pilots to be seated as they read this.

I GOT PAID.

TODAY !!!

Maybe there is some sense migrating to the upper cranial areas of management.

I would never have bet on this. I'm not sure what this means for the future of paydays, and I understand there are competing interests for the company money.

I thank whoever made this happen. The reality is that it will help the company more than they know.

Time keeping

If you are an Arik F/O then you don't show up in a timely manner....Maybe better time keeping and less account scratching...

Good Job!!!

Hey IOSA team, Well done on a very good job and all the man hours put into it. I hope AJ & mini me appreciates it. $$ ££ does not buy every thing, it was the dedication of a few individuals that burnt the mid night oil.

IATA here we come next

pay day

Hmm good for you guys.. last time i heard the local pilots who do most of the flying have not been paid.if these is a sign of what is going to happen, just wait.Divide and play game will not work. The locals might not have enough guts to come together but if mr AJ thinks the locals that way, better see these as sign of bad things that will come.Better start dishing out those cv.

fuel/payday and staff attitude to passengers.

The last staff meeting held by arik management and staff.
According to the message boys of mr AJ,the company experienced a 20% decline in passenger loads the past month thereby 20% decline in revenue. This decline according the messengers was as a result of not so good attitude of ticketing and and other staff in dealing with passengers. As a result the staff september salaries will not be paid untill probably middle of october if they are lucky.
Anybody who deals withcustomer service anywhere in nigeria knows thatfrom banks to any airline there is no difference. This is just another reason that kills the morals of these arik staff.
What happened to flights that are delayed hours simply because Mr AJ refuses to pay billls resulting to marketers refusing to fuel arik untill they pay. A passenger who has an important appointment will be a statistics in that 20%. ARIK is well known,as much as is when it comes to paying bills they rightly incured in the course of doing business,it is terrible.
From paying for fuel, catering, staff salaries, contractors, hotels, navigational charges, remitting taxes colected on behalf of the government down to the most basic bills critical to running the airline,Arik somehow wishes theybcan get away with it and expect satisfied custmers. Yet what is even mind buggling is that everyday new faces from all over the world troup in to add to these unpaid bills. It would have been alright if they have something to do besides smoking all day outsideand scuttle in when there is news mr AJ is in sight.

Ditto Oyindo!!!

As much as many want to talk garbage.... Some work was done and all turned out ok. Dont...know about findings but heard the feedback plus results were positive...like the post above. Arik is inundated with negativity and people tearing the cloth from there own skin. The pilot group seems to have a few believers....hopefully not just climbers..

The people who did virtually all the work aren't the ones making salaries late. Or flying the planes in all weather from point A to point B.

Yes, lots of work gets done at Arik, as it is at any airline, or company.

As to your "believers"; right... nobody is expecting an upgrade, management job, transfer to larger equipment, etc. They did it all for the love of the company

Emphasis on the climbers....

I can push paper like nobodies business.... Now, about that 330 upgrade....
I agree with you however(TW), perhaps my wording should have been more along the lines of "invested???"

Have you not read anything from this thread?

What part of "don't touch with a barge pole" do you not understand.

Sorry, but you deserve everything that comes your way!
