Ignorant question on my part but curious nonetheless:
Does the feedback to hire local pilots and stop cadet recruitment overseas ever reach the ears of SIA Senior Management? Or do they not view Pilot feedback as important?
I feel SIA has a duty to explain to us why there are so many foreigners in the airline? Why did not more SIA 777 Skippers and Assistant Drivers cross over to Scoot to make space for new local hires?
Since they are wholly owned by Temasek Holdings which is an arm of our Singapore Government, don't they have a moral and legal duty to hire local?
If I am not wrong, is it not an MOM rule that a company can only hire foreigners if they cannot find a local to do the same job?

Are you sure you are Singaporean? If you are you should know very well that our universities are stuffed full of foreigners on scholarships paid by Singapore taxpayer money, in medical schools and various highly desired jobs.
There is no rule that companies have to hire Singaporean first, which is a law which many Singaporeans are begging for. Companies have been exploiting that and hiring cheap labor and kicking out good Singaporeans due to their higher wages and NS liabilities.
There isn't much you can do about it and the fact that SIA is owned by Temasek means it is even more protected...the government will not do anything to upset and put off foreigners coming into the country for the country to grow. The only thing you can do is to push for such Singaporean protection laws and hope for the best.

Yes ofcourse I'm a Singaporean. Please don't imply that I'm not one. Let me rephrase my question.
I thought there was a difference in say the citizens of Singapore lamenting to PAP through the online media or NUS students complaining on online blogs about Sun Xu to:
Professional Pilots flying state of the art equipment for what used to be the world's best airline bringing up to management to reduce or completely cull the intake of foreign pilots.
Surely the company must take or atleast value this feedback more seriously? All I am saying is that surely the opinion of senior SIA Flight Crew such as Sham Kumar Singh must be taken way more seriously than some random guy ranting on TRE/TOC right?
Actually this is not a rhetorical question. I do sincerely want to know

Why would SIA take you more seriously or any of their pilots more seriously when our government bodies(MOE, MOH, etc) don't take local opinions more seriously and give scholarships to foreigners?
Anyway there isn't anything you can do about it unless through politics. Which is out of the scope of this thread...keep the bashing to other online forums.

attitudeFlying, don't worry about it. Singaporeans treat all foreigners equally badly. It doesn't matter if they are Indians, Chinese, Malaysians, Indonesians, etc. This, despite the fact that their parents/ grandparents actually came from India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.
When I do my safety pilot duty, I do it to the best of my ability. So what if the guy is not local? He is still my colleague. We are all here to feed the family, so lets just do our best to help him eh? Doing the bare minimum just because he is a foreigners reminds me of some of our instructors in Australia. They gave us a hard time because they thought that we were not deserving of the opportunity given to us. Sounds like what some of us are doing now. Just vice versa.

Overmars,
If your paragraph is a response to what I have posted, do note that I wrote I do what "supposed to do and nothing more", which doesn't imply I do not do safety duties to the best of my ability.
Your comparison to Aussie instructors is cheeky and the insinuation that "some of us" are giving foreign SOs a hard time is uncalled for.

theseus,
Not insinuating anything about you. Just that what you mentioned reminded me of how some of our guys were treated back in JDK. Judging by your join date, we probably were in JDK together. So you know who we're talking about lah e.g. RM...
BTW, we all know that some of them who came over were given a hard time. Open secret.

The reason why SQ didn't send people over to scoot is quite well known isn't it? They "foresaw a requirement" in the near future, so they wanted to have their cake and eat it. What's new?

SilkAir Recruitment Session
There's gonna be a recruitment session from SilkAir at Suntec convention halls 403/404 tomorrow and Sunday from 10am - 8pm. Might be able to get some clues as to when the pilot recruitment for SQ reopens.
Pity I cant head down... stuck in China due to work... bugger
Hope anyone that goes to the recruitment session can shed some information (i.e. if any) on PPRUNE regarding pilot recruitment.
Cheers!

As such would it not have made far more sense to ease the bottleneck by leasing/contracting SIA 777 FOs and Skippers across to Scoot?
I really wonder who are the geniuses that make these decisions? If any SIA Management is reading this, I would highly advise you people to take in more Flight Crew into Management Positions. A lot of Pilots are better in the know of the market and/or aviation as a whole as opposed to absorbing in some random banker/corporate guy to fill in positions.
Aviation simply does not work that way. The intricacies of the industry do not just demand but NECESSITATE people in the know to be in the senior/middle management positions.
Again, a humble voice crying the wilderness says to you guys, please stop shortchanging your own fellow citizens and remedy the situation before things get worse.
Look at what is happening to Indian Aviation. SIA has successfully managed to retain a Golden-Age-Of-Aviation Pan-Am like status to date or atleast to a reasonably good extent. Please don't f*** it up for the rest of us right now.\
The folks in the other International carriers are not idiots. They are fast catching up. If SIA does not get its act together, it won't be long before it is nudged out of further routes and markets.

Singaporean pilot dies in Malaysia plane crash - Channel NewsAsia
KUALA LUMPUR: A Singaporean pilot on a training flight died Sunday when his single-seat plane crashed into an oil palm plantation in southern Malaysia, police said.
The plane went down Sunday in clear weather after taking off from a private flight school in Johor state, local police official Wan Razani Wan Ibrahim said.
The body of the Singaporean pilot, who was in his 20s, was found under the plane wreck in the plantation, Wan Razani said.
He said authorities were still investigating what caused the crash and could not confirm what type of plane was involved.
Last week, three Malaysians died when their helicopter went down in a river in bad weather in Sarawak state on Borneo island. Only the German pilot survived.
On the same day, in the sultanate of Brunei, which is also on Borneo, an air force helicopter crashed, killing 12 military personnel returning from jungle training. Two cadets survived.

I don't quite get this, pardon my ignorance. I thought the timeline of events was such that Scoot's recruitment of flight crew and SIA's request for Non-Commanders to take Unpaid Leave was very close together?
As such would it not have made far more sense to ease the bottleneck by leasing/contracting SIA 777 FOs and Skippers across to Scoot?

His Leeness once threatened to shut-down SIA and restart it because the Pilots were giving management a headache.
Now the management is giving Pilots and Future SIA Pilots a tough time. Will SIA which is owned by Temasek Holdings which is owned by the Government act?
It is high time something is done!

I hope that's a joke. I believe the aviation community in singapore is a small and close knitted one, hopefully looking out for each other.
So far all the seniors i've met have nothing but encouragement and good advice to dish out to wanna-bes like me.
